A few people's favourite gig moments popped up in a Discord server discussion, but chatter like this should be preserved for posterity.
Here's one of mine - the tail end of Brian's last solo in See What A Fool I've Been on 1976-04-01.
Never trust anyone with your children who says Brian May doesn't have a bluesy bone in his body. He does, in droves. This bit is as good as anything Page or Clapton came up with on the fly at their respective peaks.

At Oakland 1978, Brighton Rock from this point onwards is just totally bonkers This whole version of Liar is stunning, but Freddie belting this out here is just the cherry on top. Brian is playing something very beautiful before Is This the World We Created. Don't know what it is but it sounds great. Nice clips - they're at the top of their game. Brian's chops are in great shape in the '75 bit, as those are super quick pull-offs.
The '84 one is just him having a pretty Spanish-inspired noodle.

This remains one of my favourites - Brian May has broken a string and needs to switch to the John Birch spare, and Roger Taylor plays some serious head-up hockey to save the day. Killer backing vocal too while he's sorting out what his next move is. He always was the secret sauce of this band.

Roger was easily the most understated musician in the band. He was the guy who rarely made mistakes, and held things together as well as any drummer of the day. On a slightly different note, listening to this for the first time in years, it struck me that this “boot” stands as a great tribute to the live mixing skills of James Khalaf. Also the raw musical power they generated is evident even in this audience recording. |

Roger was easily the most understated musician in the band. He was the guy who rarely made mistakes, and held things together as well as any drummer of the day. On a slightly different note, listening to this for the first time in years, it struck me that this “boot” stands as a great tribute to the live mixing skills of James Khalaf. Also the raw musical power they generated is evident even in this audience recording. Indeed. Even on the bad-sounding tapes it's obvious how great the front of house mix was.

Three moments from me. The first one is from the 1st Vienna show on the Hot Space tour. Freddie did a little falsetto in the middle of Somebody To Love, probably a one-time occurrence. (26:58) The 2nd moments is from Leiden 1986, 12th June when Freddie plays some very fast descending octaves on the piano just before Bohemian Rhapsody. I don't know if he was just "doodling", fooling around or was it intentional, but it sounds pretty amazing. (1:17:41) The last moment is from Boston 76 when John is playing a very nice melody on his bass in the middle of White Queen (15:08)  |

Oh boy. This is definitely a thread I've got a lot to add to. . I've got plenty more to share over time, but take some of these first.
The one time Fred sings this studio falsetto part during In the Lap of the Gods. Another interesting thing to note is that Roger does not attempt any of the screams here, a one time thing as of now.
A jaw dropping moment from Liverpool 1974s version of Father to Son. Brian would do something like this on Manchester 1973s version as well, but not as elaborate.
Here's a wonderful Dreamer's Ball intro jam I was listening to the other night. This song has almost no bad versions live, and you can always expect some fantastic chemistry from the band.
Perhaps the greatest intro jam ever pulled off for Keep Yourself Alive. After playing the song for 10 years by this point, the band was starting to take the jams in completely new directions. This is above and beyond from how the song originally sounded.
Here's a neat little thing Brian throws in during White Man. I do not know of any other versions with such a thing, and I find it to be a nice detail.

Interesting how the end of Son and Daughter (40:22) sounds very much like the end of I Want it All. I haven't heard another version that does that.

It showed up now and again in '82 as you've pointed out, but he definitely upped his game by '84. That and the Dublin clip are what happen after you jam with Eddie van Halen for a couple days - no doubt it stayed with him for years to come.

Here's some more moments I could think of tonight.
The one time instance of Son and Daughter directly transitioning into Keep Yourself Alive. (Note: this isn't listed on your site, Bob, and I think it may be worth adding.)
An excellent moment from Jailhouse Rock. No matter what you think about how Fred sounds at these 1973 shows, you cannot deny the band absolutely play their asses off each and every night making the most out of the limited time they have.
One of my all time favourite Brian moments - a breath taking bit from one of his Brighton Rock solos. You could 100% make a whole new song out of this section. I love the way he keeps building off of it. He would play something similar at a few other shows over the years (such as Milwaukee 1976) but it must be said that none quite hold a candle to how he plays it at Manchester.
Here's Brian really changing up the outro guitar to The Millionaire Waltz. I am yet to come across another version with it being changed up as much as it is here, some lovely stuff.
Just a mind-melting Brighton Rock moment.
A super spicy Killer Queen solo.
Here's something I found a couple weeks ago - Brian playing guitar at the start of Bohemian Rhapsody. 99% of the time, he would join later on (as he does on the record version.) He does the same thing at Boston 1977 (Races) as well
Here's a completely unique solo to Now I'm Here. It's pretty fair to say that Brian would stick to a similar route regarding the solos for this song live, but the times he does change it up are to savor, and this is no exception.
I am very much going to add more to this thread over time for those who end up enjoying these posts.

Back with some more things to add to this!
For the bulk of this version of Dragon Attack, Brian takes it pretty easy until he absolutely lets it rip
I'm especially fond of Hot Space versions of Save Me, and while this isn't the only version where Brian plays the piano melody here in the song, I still think it sounds very nice
While the solo on this version of Liar is very out of character from Brian (extremely sloppy and out of key playing - probably the weakest Liar solo), this section on Brussels' version is especially amazing, totally changing the vibe of the song (he plays this on some other Hot Space versions but I definitely think Brussels sounds the best out of them all).
After adding a bunch of Brian moments - I'm going to add some nice Freddie moments
On this tour Freddie would elongate this sustain in Ogre Battle a lot but his tone and power at Bristol is unrivaled by all the other versions
While the quality is bad, you can hear Freddie blast through the mix with these amazing A4 sustains during the improv section of Now I'm Here - truly shows just how far he had come since the Jazz (and even) News of the World tours
This moment from Milwaukee's Hangman is absolutely amazing - totally unexpected from a 1976 show
I'm 100% going to be adding more to this thread over time.

Here's some cool things to spice up your weekends.
My pick for the greatest version of the "full" Prophet's song - this moment right here during the vocal improv gives me goosebumps. Fred was absolutely amazing at harmonizing with himself. The part where he goes "he's around here....." is so damn perfect.
Absolutely love this phrasing.
A candidate for the best Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy solo, in my opinion at least. Super creative stuff.
Brian going off during the outro of Somebody to Love.
Brian changing up the intro riff to Liar. Love how sinister it sounds. This version as a whole is just amazing for him, definitely worth checking out.
Excellent moment from a Son and Daughter solo. Just listen to about 15 seconds from this timestamp to hear something awesome.
Here's something interesting I found a couple months ago - Freddie joining in for Brian's Brighton Rock solo. First, he enters with a lengthy sustain, and then right after, he starts to mimic what Brian plays on the guitar. Very neat stuff.
A super unique Jailhouse Rock solo.
A SPINE CHILLING intro to Don't Stop Me Now - no other version with such a thing happening out there. Just amazing.
The intro to this version is also great. I love how Fred pauses for a few seconds to really draw things out, only to come back in and introduce the song.

Brian changing up the intro riff to Liar. Love how sinister it sounds. Interesting - indeed, he hits an E-flat chord twice (one fret off). Sounds like the first one was a mistake, but he does it again to make it sound like it isn't ! Kind of has a Tony Iommi satan feel to it. He does something similar here:
Keep 'em coming - I love this stuff. For a band that often didn't change the setlist from night to night, there are a ton of these moments captured on tape. |

Out of over 500 tapes of Roger Taylor from the past 50 years, this is pretty well the only semi-major drumming mistake I've ever heard him make. He flubs a snare fill in KYA, and then eight bars later he plays it as he'd intended the first time. And this isn't even that bad a gaffe - I bet none of the 20,000 on hand noticed.
He was the secret sauce of Queen - by far the most solid musician in the band. Completely reliable, both as a drummer and backing vocalist. Criminally underrated.

Before the last part of Great King Rat, Freddie mimics the sound on Brian's guitar, and later, he makes an "oooh"
In this improv before starting In The Lap Of The Gods... Revisited, Freddie plays something very similar to what would later appear in I'm In Love With My Car, but slower
