Though it would never happen, I would laugh if he decided as one of his “Queen classics” he played Fun It....

And he's in extremely good hands with Tyler Warren - probably the best guy in the world for the drum chair, and a killer singer too. He truly understands Queen's music. His and Neil's videos from lockdown last year were an absolute treat, especially as they dug into deeper Queen material (Sweet Sister, Need Your Loving Tonight, and Rock It). Agree ! Hopefully Tyler will encourage Roger to do some deep diggin' for the setlist...

Been looking forward to a solo tour since 1999, which were the first set of gigs I ever went to see and used up a large part of my student loan for travel costs! I know it won't be the same as it was then, his vocal range has dimished somewhat and the band is vastly different (with a couple of unknowns who sound a bit hipsterish having played with Goldfrapp) but I'm pleased he's kept Jason Falloon because he's a cracking guitarist and Spike is Spike! Pleased with the new album being officially announced but I hope he doesn't do what he did with his last solo effort and recycle previously released songs on it but I think he will (found some track timings and the last track matches Journey's End) and that may well be a turn off for me but I'm going to keep an open mind and hope for the best. I'm seeing the Manics in the same month as Roger's tour as well, who are the only other band I'm half bothered about seeing these days. Had to buy my wife tickets to see Echo and the Bunnymen for her birthday because I only ever end up going to see bands I like!!! (which is the Manics 90% of the time) I’d be fine with Journeys End as long as there’s context for it. I was actually also fine with The Unblinking Eye on Fun On Earth, though I would’ve preferred the full version; the abridged version was stupid. And I didn’t care for the live version of Say It’s Not True, it sounded tinny and out of place. Everything else is perfect though! I swear! The abridged version of TUE(EIB) was plain sabotage, not just because it was abridged, but because of the added (or increased) "radio" effect on Roger's voice... Hopefully Journey's End will be left as it is.

Journeys End really is a modern-day classic. Can’t believe it took Roger 68 years to write it but it was worth the wait.

I love it, too. As always with Roger, I find some of the production choices questionable (mainly the vocals effect treatment), though overall it sounds beautiful. It is one of his near-masterpieces, up there with 'My Country I & II', 'I Cry for You' (am I being contreversial here ?), in fact probably the greatest of them all. If there's any other song of that caliber on Outsider, I'll be happy.

How long after we’ve all pre-ordered the standard CDs and vinyl will the press release about all the limited edition versions come out?!?
Exactly. Although I would probably buy all formats and editions in the end. I however cannot imagine that an artist like RT would release a nbr of special editions. His profile isn't that big which would make such a release schedule profitable?

Just after the release date, once we've all received our pre-orders, like they did with Live Around The World. 🙄 It's a bit like pre-sales concert tickets. They never let the best seats out for the pre-sales.

So, I've pre-ordered vinyl for the pre-sale. Figured neither format I'm likely to play but Journey's End LP may look good hung on wall?? However (this may well be a dumb question), when the tour date tickets pre-sale opens - there must be a limit on the number of tickets a person can purchase? I'm hoping to get a ticket for myself and partner (for Cardiff) but surely we don't both need to have purchased the record/cd/cassette??

My favourite is their version of Entertain You. They absolutly nailed it and it gives us an insight how the song could be today.

Not in the least - I Cry For You is unquestionably one of his best solo tracks. It has an aesthetic unlike anything else.
Roger is criminally underrated on so many levels, but alas this is what happens when you're second fiddle to the greatest frontman of all time.

Roger is criminally underrated on so many levels, but alas this is what happens when you're second fiddle to the greatest frontman of all time. agreed. best comparison is George Harrison - for 8 years, restricted to a a song (or two) per LP (until the mid-80s). Roger's 80s solo stuff stands head and shoulders (for me) above the majority of Queen's 80s output. the Beatles/Queen parallels are here too: All Things Must Pass = Fun In Space, Strange Frontier. Much of Harrison's best late 60s work didn't make those last 3 Beatles LPs, in the same way that Roger's best early-80s work didn't get on Game, HS or Works. the Harrison phenomenon also explains why Roger has been so prolific outside of Queen, while Brian hasn't. Brian (writing five tracks per LP for so long) had probably (more or less) written most of everything he had wanted to write by 1991. Roger still had much more to say.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! Yet there's no denying it is a rather weird track. The production in particular... I can't really tell if it's awful or genius, if that makes any sense!

That really pisses me off when they do that. Joe Bonamassa does it with Target versions of his CDs, and so do countless other artists. Then they wonder why people download stuff illegally. I'll buy the album, but I'm not paying practically double for the Jap version, once you've added shipping etc. If you flip it round, effectively the UK editions have two tracks missing.

I think Good times are now is a song with real energy that doesn't sound dated at all because of the real drumming, would love to see him give this a go.

Hardly 'dates across the UK' if he can't be arsed coming to Scotland. I'll let the chip on my shoulder settle before deciding if I want to head to Newcastle. Boo!! Same here mate.

Rather bland, non-descriptive song titles, if you ask me... unless it's 14 individual tracks from the separated multitrack of ONE song? Outsider - ロジャー・テイラー Expected 2021/10/1 1 Track 1 2 Track 2 3 Track 3 4 Track 4 5 Track 5 6 Track 6 7 Track 7 8 Track 8 9 Track 9 10 Track 10 11 Track 11 12 Track 12 13 Track 13 14 Track 14 Nice now Roger made his own "Track 13"

Hopefully Journey's End will be left as it is. Yeah, what's the deal with all that filtering? His natural voice is fine. I find it jarring that he applies that effect so much lately. I think Good times are now is a song with real energy that doesn't sound dated at all because of the real drumming, would love to see him give this a go. "Let's Get Crazy" had an amazing beat and build-up too. Lots of good Roger songs to choose from if he goes back to the old ones, although I don't think he could do that one live at this point.

No purchase is necessary to get the pre sale ticket link - there is a second link ‘hidden’ in the original press release about it....whilst it doesn’t look like a link, click on the text that says ‘no purchase necessary’ and it opens.

Actually he's been keen on using effects on his voice since the early days. Listen to the big delay on Modern Times Rock'n'roll, especially the final bit... I guess he doesn't like his natural voice all that much, or isn't confident it's good enough, which is a real shame.

I wouldn’t say he doesn’t like his voice – certainly no less than any moderately talented singer likes their voice – just that he might have more a fascination of making it sound different or interesting. He’s been pretty open to experimentation on his songs (varispeeding, Vocoders, etc.).

And just in time...I got back into Queen earlier this year after 5 years away!

I feel like Roger's solo work is very underappreciated, especially given the heaps of new Queenies (by way of the Bo Rhap movie) who have become attracted to Rog. Although Bo Rhap hadn't come out yet in my original Queen phase, I am still very blessed that I gave Roger's solo work/the Cross a chance, because 1) Roger's solo work is beyond amazing, possibly the finest of the three Queen members which had a solo career, and 2) those who do know about Roger's solo work/the Cross were a rare breed then and still are, even with all these Roger stans.. Anyone who hasn't given a thought to their solo work is valid (I'm not a huge fan of "gatekeeping"), but they are missing out! But then again, it's not like they have to get into it or anything.
