A closer angle. My god, this is so good.
How lucky the world is that they found this guy so that they could tour into their 70s.

To be honest, the more I hear of Adam, the more I want them to do an album. Not poppy chart stuff, a proper Queen album to go out on.

Here is a video from last night - even better I think. Is there ANY other band past or present who could do this? Genuine question - who else could do this? And with this much aplomb….

Obviously there are other singers, trained opera singers, who can sing the song, but I'm struggling to think of another rock vocalist in Adam's league at the moment. Truly extraordinary. If only the video had been framed better.

I agree trained opera professionals could do it. But which rock bands past or present? It’s not just about the ability of the singer. I think the experience and confidence of Roger and Brian add to the mix too. Can’t see the Stones doing it even if their singer had the chops. Elton definitely doesn’t have the ability anymore - but in the past? And I don’t know enough about modern musicians to comment on them… would love to hear the thoughts of others.
Also agree the framing isn’t great - but that’s what happens at the barrier 🤣

On this tour AL has reached another level. Absolutely the best guy for the job and definitely the reason the band are still touring.

I don’t know any rock or pop singer, who could sing like that. And even for skilled musical theatre singers this is special. Opera singers can do it, although I‘ve read that Nessun Dorma isn’t that common or easy, because its final notes are pretty high , so only (high?) tenors can sing it.

Brian May has hailed vocalist Adam Lambert for his spontaneous rendition of popular opera standard Nessun Dorma during the band's July 10 show in Bologna, Italy. Lambert performed an impromptu version of the song at the Unipol Arena on the first of Queen's two nights in Bologna, much to the guitarist's delight. An aria from the closing act of Giacomo Puccini’s 1924 three-act opera Turandot, Nessun Dorma became engraved on global consciousness when and reached new audiences in 1990 when the legendary Italian tenor Luciana Pavarotti performed it during the 1990 FIFA World Cup finals in Italy. "A spontaneous gift to Bologna last night!!!" May posted on Instagram. "So proud of Adam!!! I can see our dear departed friend Luciano smiling!! Let’s Rock tonight!!!"

Here’s what Classic Fm wrote about QAL‘s Nessun Dorma: Queen lead singer performs Puccini’s ‘Nessun dorma’ and it’s hugely impressive(…) During an arena show in Italy, the British rock band Queen and singer Adam Lambert paid tribute to the birthplace of opera by treating the crowd to an unforgettable moment of Puccini. Live on stage at Unipol Arena in Casalecchio di Reno in Bologna on 10 July, one of several dates on their European tour, the band gave a stunning surprise performance of ‘Nessun dorma’. Guitarist Brian May captioned the video on Instagram: “A spontaneous gift to Bologna last night !!! So proud of Adam !!! I can see our dear departed friend Luciano smiling,”. ‘Nessun dorma’ to this day is known as the signature aria of Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti, who died in 2007. Lambert’s voice seems effortlessly controlled as he moves from the breathy quality in his lower range, to the full, bright belt as he reaches the lofty heights of the aria. It’s a gruelling sing, one that no singer takes on lightly, and Lambert does it with stunning strength and agility. Personally, I'm quite happy with him being referred to as Queen's lead singer. I was skeptical at first, but I think he's more than earned his stripes now. Who is the lead singer of AC/DC?

Well, they themselves refer to it as "Queen + Adam Lambert", not just "Queen" so I think it's more than fair to not call Adam Queen's lead singer just like Paul Rodgers. Personally, I don't see them as "Queen" either and for me it's a slightly project proven by the "+"

He gain this title for the live shows. However Brian and Roger are very fair and clear to him, so they gave him credit & artistic freedom, as Queen + Adam Lambert and not just Queen as a post 1991 band.

Billy Joel has included it in his setlist for a few years now. One of the band members sings it, not Billy.

I saw a you tube video of the band doing a version of "Don't Stop Me Now" I think it was in Cologne and after listening to it I put the "Live Killers" version on and I was amazed at the difference the "Killers" version was a hard rocking blast ! The recent version was just a band going through the motions and Brian looked totally disinterested , I know its not his favourite song but even so.

Bands like Aerosmith and Rolling Stones also don't play anymore like they did in the seventies. Times do change.

Compare Keep yourself Alive performances from 1973/1974 with performances from 1985.

Most live bands tend to slow down over the years. I'm never quite sure if it's down to age, or whether they're just more comfortable and relaxed playing the songs now, than they were 30 or 40 years ago.
