Does it have unexpected, innovative stuff? Considering the fact that many people are *still* unable to handle the outlandish harmonies on Party/Khashoggi's Ship, most definitely! Bingo.
Party is one of the most unique and musically satisfying tracks in the entire Queen catalogue. I will never understand how people can like Mustapha and Princes of the Universe but not this one too. They are all cut from the same cloth.
I was blown away when I first heard it. Then I found out that it is one of the most hated Queen songs. Glad to *finally* see positive comments about it!

Re-recoding music after 30 years destroys it's authenticity as it's not the original anymore. I'd argue that it's a case by case basis. The recently redone version of Floyd's Momentary Lapse of Reason absolutely destroys the 1987 release. They axed the drum machines and session players, and now it's almost entirely just the three guys in Floyd - Nick Mason played new parts, and Rick Wright's parts were flown in from outtakes or live performances from the tour. No More Turning Away now sounds like it could've been on Wish You Were Here, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
George Lucas redoing the old Star Wars film is an abomination, but not everything falls under that category. Sometimes art takes a while to reach its fruition. Some things are Picasso, others are Cezanne.
Maybe this will prove controversial, but I think both of Freddie's solo albums' "special editions" were vast improvements over the original records.

The problem with "Party" is the drum machine, which makes it all sound like a demo (a la "Let's turn it on").
The harmonies and the guitars are pretty cool, however.

I didn't buy the Mr. Bad guy special edition, but I did buy Barcelona with the real orchestra. I prefer the original, I do think some songs were Improved, but they messed up How Can I Go On and the title track.

I definitely hear good things on Party, but no way is it on the level of Mustapha and POTU. Those were great Freddie songs, Party has grown on me over the years, along with the rest of The Miracle, but I still think It's their weakest opening song. What lets down Party is what plagued the band throughout the eighties...the drums, or rather the lack of acoustic drums. Otherwise, the song has fun lyrics with some great guitar from Brian. It's just a really fun way to open the album. But yeah, it is probably the least impressive opening song. I'm not even going to try and compare it to the likes of Innuendo, Death On Two Legs, or One Vision.

In a poll of 30 QZers almost 20 years ago, Party ranked 161 out 188 songs. So there were 27 Queen songs ranked worse than Party, but none of these 27 songs were normal album tracks.
15 Flash Gordon songs ranked lower.
9 non-album songs ranked lower (B sides and bonus tracks).
3 one minute album instrumental songs ranked lower.

The band has said that there was something like 30 songs thrown out. It’s not the worst idea for a boxset. Hell many of the innuendo songs had there start during the miracle session Innuendo would make a great box set because of it's cover artwork alone.
Can not deny that.

Party isn't terrible for the first verse and refrain but then it just falls apart which makes it a really questionable choice for an opener. They threw out 30 songs (or ideas) and this made it past being a non-album B-side, a real head scratcher. I always keep going back to feeling they may have been trying to pick the most energetic songs to counter the tabloid coverage of Freddie's health. It's certainly not their worst song, that's the next one, Khashoggi's Ship. What the hell were they thinking?

Weren't Brian and Roger in the studio with AL earlier this year or last year.............? Reimagined Miracle
@fickle History's foundation (the actual recordings) should never be changed or be replaced at all just because some people don't like the sound. No offence to you but this reminds me of people disliking the original mix of the Pink Floyd album "A Momentary Lapse Of Reason" that sounds very 80s to some people and they hate it for that reason alone despite it being a great album. Everyone's taste is different right but missing out on a album because of the sound is like returning a baby because it's got the wrong face.
You can never please everyone but then that's the best reason to go with the version the band (and Freddie too) approved.
The drums on Miracle were indended to sound the way they do and what seems old-fashioned to us now was considered good enough back then when it was the present. Re-record the whole thing completely and call it "The Miracle: Reinterpreted" to avoid it becoming a replacement in the future.
I would hate that

Party has a weak start but it picks up toward the middle when Brian really puts on the magic with some lovely textures. And Khashoggi's Ship is a brilliant rocker. Fun lyrics with awesome guitar riffs from the doctor. Plus, Khashoggi's Ship features Roger doing what he does best...actually playing drums! Honestly, I've always felt the two songs back to back were quite lethal and helped hold each other up. They're both greater than the sum of their parts.

Mustapha is a joke at the same level of Bring Back That Leroy Brown or Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon or Seaside Rendezvous orGet Down Make Love...A bad one... All written by Freddie BTW. I never understood the point with Mustapha...Its musical level is very low and the lyric...Do we really need to talk about the lyrics? NO WAY.
Party & Kashoggi´s Ship are very nice as opener. I just love The Miracle album and i find them better openers than the ones in Jazz, Sheer Heart Attack or Hot Space

I like Khashoggi's Ship (as for non native-English speaker, is for me more easy to consume just music and not the entire lyrics of songs) and a majority of songs on the album. I am skipping Party, My Baby, but love Scandal, WIAWI and Hijack My Heart. Sadly, the sound of drums is weaker on some songs than it could be, but not as thin as on Innuendo.
For box set, I would like to have even those unnecessary things like posters or photobook, because The Miracle is one of my favourite Queen albums and I even like their look at videos (costumes, Freddie with beard).
I would be glad if the boxset would lool like that: CD1: album remaster CD2: demos 1 CD2: alternative versions CD3: instrumental version CD4: DVD/BR with videos CD5: 12'' and single versions, remixes
I don't need interviews or vinyl-replica singles, which would led to the fact, that we won't get anything new (and it's wasting time to release cd with just a few songs) ...

Jazz should have been opened with Let Me Entertain You.

Some of the best opening songs of Queen albums:
Procession - Queen II Death On Two Legs - A Night At The Opera Innuendo - Innuendo It's A Beautiful Day - Made In Heaven
Some of the worst opening songs of Queen albums:
Mustapha - Jazz Radio Ga Ga - The Works (not terrible but sounds more like a Track 2 song. Maybe Tear It Up would have been a better choice) Party - The Miracle (weak drum beat in the beginning. -> I Want It All should have been used instead!)

As an opener for Jazz, Mustapha was nothing if not startling, in the way that it went from that tinny 'mono' sound to the full on heavy rock so dynamically. I remember getting it on LP when it first came out, and despite the lyrics, it sounded great at the time. Maybe they could have swapped FBG and Let Me Entertain You to have LMEY as track two, and FBG closing side one, but usually their album track orders were pretty much spot on, and it's difficult to see how most tracks on most albums would have worked in a different running order.

Nah, Mustapha is a pretty great song. It's not on the level of Some of their other openers, like Death On Two Legs, Tie Your Mother Down, etc, but it's Queen still being creative and different from everyone else. All the other songs you mentioned, especially Leroy Brown and Seaside Rendezvous are highlights for me.
