With no insider information, I’d say ignored…. Kash has ‘played the game’ as far as Freddie is concerned. Mary, besides the Freddie docu with the box set hasn’t. Freddie was a superstar and a hero to million's, she knew that and surely knew what came with it after his death. I totally understand that she wanted to live a ‘ normal’ life, but unfortunately, that was never going to happen. The auction was was always going to upset people, I just find it hard to understand that QPL haven’t (or have decided not to) have first dibs on what’s up for sale. Usually Brian would link something to his social media’s, but his silence is deafening

If somebody was to buy the lot and create an exhibition / museum (not sure which is the correct word), that might be a way for fans to view the collection. It might be quite a good business opportunity for someone willing to make the investment, and would make Freddie's legacy accessible for years to come. What a great idea this is!

Maybe it wouldn't be a long term venture though, because I guess once you've seen the exhibition, you've seen it and you wouldn't necessarily go back again. But I reckon it could run for two to three years.

But I agree there are easier ways of converting £7m into £8m and above

That`s if you buy it at the auction estimate of £6m. How many items will exceed their estimate? If you get a bidding war you could be looking at a £10m+ initial outlay!

It's probably possible to allow some lots to slide by, and still have a credible "Museum of Mercury", it wouldn't require EVERY artwork...

There's a petition to STOP the auctions rb.gy/nv561 if you feel that way about it. How do they think a petition is going to stop the auction? People may have their own ideas as to what they would like to happen, but at the end of the day, the possessions were left to Mary, so it's legally her decision as to what she does with them.

Well, actually...I did! The reason I signed it is it will show her an opinion if it takes legs. I know it won't "stop the auction", but at least she'll see that folk would maybe rather it was bought as a whole for a museum (as people have mentioned here already) and not all split up. There will be genuine fans who'll want to buy some of the stuff of course, but there will be hoarders, ghouls and those hoping to make profit in that mix too. It just seems a little sad to be breaking it all up, although I can see that a permanent museum might not be the best business idea. It could be something with exhibits that rotate, which would perhaps bring in repeat custom, though - or it could be something that travels.
Don't really care if you think makes me a "blithering idiot" lol
I left the link for people to see and sign if they wish.

When you look at some of the replies on that petition, you would think that Freddie`s items were for public viewing only and only the public should decide on what to do with them. They are not public items they are Mary Austin`s private items, and as such she can do whatever she wants with them. It`s like somebody telling me I cannot sell some of my late family heirlooms (I wish) if I feel the need to. Everybody has free choice (for now) on what they can or cannot do with family possessions. A petition will not change anything here and people should let Mary get on with her life. If I was in the same situation there will be a few choice words coming out of my mouth, most of them ending in off.....Rant over

That's not my stance on it. If I've said it once to people during conversations about this, I've said it a thousand times: yes, she can do whatever she wants with it (and she will) but if she could perhaps be gently persuaded to see there are other avenues rather than splitting it all up, it would be nice.

One thing worth noting to all those who demand that Mary put everything in a museum, Freddie addressed the subject of "hoarding" quite succinctly: “If I want to be buried with all my treasures like Tutankhamun, I’ll do it. If I want a pyramid in Kensington and I can afford it, I’ll have it. Wouldn’t that be fab,” He clearly didn't opt for the above, so (by default) he couldn't give a rat's ass what happens "his" stuff, and we should all respect his choice, and kudos to Mary for carrying that weight for 30+ years.

The group that are creating a memorial for Freddie in Feltham have attempted to approach Mary should she wish to have any involvement but they were ignored . ignored or declined? there's a world of difference there. please clarify. Ignored . No reply , no acknowledgment from her following the invitation but that’s her choice

Who helps her kids pay the inheritance taxes?

She may have even given her boys some inheritance already to try and keep tax liabilities down .

It's time that [after almost 50 years of loyalty and 32 years of protecting Freddie's legacy], we should all cut the woman the respect and slack she has more than earned a million times over.

I haven’t said anything about a museum. I actually feel it’s up to her what she does with it . I think you clicked the quote button, before I had finished editing my post. I had already removed the direct reference to you (as a point of correction) a few seconds before your quoted post of my original reply. However , I don’t feel the same as you towards Mary . i got that from your post referring to "Mary ignoring the memorial group", perhaps it's worth considering her position and how impossible it is. say Yes to one group you then have to reason with those you refuse. it goes on and on. can i ask is there any evidence she actually ignored the "group"? or is that just something someone said, that has now become "fact"? It’s clearly a heated topic since the news was announced and I feel there is no harm people discussing what they wish would happen . no harm in discussion, whatsoever. but some of the comments in this thread and the petition illustrate a huge misconception that anything with a "Freddie connection" belongs to the fans. it doesn't. I’m sure she isn’t stupid and likely knew what a stir it would cause ;she herself said Freddie warned her what she could face taking on GL . which is probably why she has taken so long to get to this point. although, it's clear that "no amount of time" would ever be enough for some folk. very sad, isn't it? I don’t agree with the petition. well we agree on that much

I would be royally pissed off if I were in a similar situation where I could not relax in my own house, and to get the neighbours involved is unlawful. The paparazzi journalists are bad, but so called "normal " fans doing this are scraping the bottom of the cess pit. At Mary`s age now she should be relaxing and thinking about the good times, not wondering if some psycho is going to have a go at her!

It is bad enough to have a family fight over an inheritance. Imagine if your family was Freddie fans. LOL
An auction is probably the easiest option rather than trying to decide who gets which item.
Even if the items were given to a museum, she would still have to decide on a museum, and then deal with those that she turned away ... and then I imagine she would probably constantly hear about and deal with the internal politics and bickering at the museum about "Freddie's" stuff for years on end.

And it's likely that the "fans" in question are newbies. The sick lot tossing threats are like the gallows whores during a notorious serial killer trial. People who jump into something and cling into and onto it as if it were their OWN identity. Some obsessive psychotic type. You see it in every dead musician comment section. OMG HOW THE WORLD MISTREATED YOU MJ! I LOVE YOU FOREVER AND MISS YOU (*posted by someone 12 years old or 17 who never even was at a gig or HEARD about this person*) I mean what does it take for someone to become so obsessed as to threaten the very person's #1 for whom they supposedly idolize? Reminds me of the Old classic SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE (SNL) skit about the MR BELVEDERE FAN CLUB with Tom Hanks. Some people "God bless im" don't have much identity in the world and can become twisted in such matters as sports and celebrity like this Addendum. I STILL think it's pretty shitty of her to be selling that cat vest. That's pretty much it though. Unless there's Original Freddie himself artwork. I'd toss that to Kash. Anything else he accrued, really is nobody else's business.

I imagine she is astute financially and will have IHT in hand ; she likely has set up a trust of some kind . the resurgence of queen since the film will have seen her share of the royalties increase (I imagine ) so she is likely well off financially. She may have even given her boys some inheritance already to try and keep tax liabilities down . You're right that the £6m of this is probably not her primary source of funds (even after the house). Assuming this stuff is worth £6m, then "having IHT in hand" means she needs to either: A) accept that the government will take 40% of that B) sell it now and get it in a trust more than X years (I think 7) before she dies. If scenario A plays out, some of the collection would probably HAVE to be sold in order to settle that tax bill (assuming that most of the cash has been moved out of range). As a side note, the government presumably already took a cut of the transfer TO Mary back in 1991, as there's no way anything could have been transferred to her in advance.
