So they've sold QPL? OK, that's different. Presumably Queen Touring Ltd has been separated out. All employees and dedicated freelancers now looking slightly nervously at Sony.... What's also new is that in April they set up two new companies: Miracle Collective LLP (with directors BM, RT, JD, and a guy who acts as the "Trustee of the Will and of the Residuary Estate" of FM), and Miracle Ongoing Services Ltd (with directors BM and RT). So could that just mean that Miracle Ongoing Services Ltd is like the new company for their touring with Adam Lambert? As far as I understand, Queen Touring Ltd. exists since 1980, so maybe Touring Ltd. also moved to the Sony guy because of all the rights from the old shows, and they just created Ongoing Serviced Ltd. for their future shows? Would that make any sense? I have no clue

It's frustrating when the author is not the master of his creations. It's even more frustrating if the author sold his work for peanuts, as the buying side is greedy to the bone. I wonder what Freddie would say about all this if he were still alive. I doubt that this phrase will work here. "You can do anything with my music, just don't make me boring"

It's frustrating when the author is not the master of his creations There is an irony that thousands of artists sign deals early in their careers that means they can never actually own their masters and exert control over the commercial exploitation of their art, while the (relative) handful at the top of the pyramid are happy to sell off exactly that However, the reasons (effectively estate planning) make sense given the values involved, and the ages of those involved

I'd love to hear some of those new refreshing sounds. Care to drop a few names/ tunes? well, in the 27 years since MIH, Queen have released only ONE LP of new original material: TCR. In that time, I've heard plenty of refreshing sounds: ♦ 7 LPs by The Killers ♦ 10 LPs by Foo Fighters ♦ 3 LPs by Rolling Stones ♦ 3 LPs by Rush ♦ 9 LPs by Green Day ♦ 5 LPs by David Bowie Chr*st! at this rate, Zep and The Beatles are more likely to release an album of new material than Queen are.

The Beatles have released more unheard recordings then Queen have post MIH/Beatles Anthology in 1995/6. Even worse Bri has only released one proper solo album in that time too.

Looking at that page, everything and everything even slightly linked to the band has been snatched up by Sony (solo stuff as well as Queen). This might allow a rerelease of Deacy's stuff which I'm pretty sure has never been on CD and certainly not in digital form (mp3, flac, lossy etc).
It could be very good for us although we have no idea of what the T&Cs are. Maybe some more unreleased Freddie stuff might come out eg Africa by Night.
This might prove to be the biggest thing for us fans since MiH.

Wow. That's actually a pretty powerful thing to see. That company founded on 10/29/75 was the vehicle that saw this timeless music transported from their heads into our ears. And now it's being bought by a multinational corporation. I'm not sure if there's an adjective to accurate describe how this feels.

People in their 70s rich since 45+ years...They will be dead before they can spend 10% of their money Even their sons/grandsons won´t have to do anything in their lives because they´ll have enough money...
But the best option is selling their catalogue...
I can´t get it...

Just because they don’t need the money doesn’t make it a smart move - they could do a lot of good with whatever they’re earning from this, which they couldn’t necessarily do once they’re dead.

As I understand, it's not about the money, it's about getting their affairs in order, and not leaving their families a huge burden of business obligations and commitments. Exactly why Mary sold Garden Lodge.

I think you've described exactly what they've ended up doing here with this sale to Sony!

Exactly why Mary sold Garden Lodge. That might be the real reason. It might also very well be a variation on the tired old "want to spend more time with my family" that so many politicians rely on when they're either forced to leave or have found a more lucrative pursuit. Saying "they're giving me this huge, huge cheque man!" just isn't as classy as saying you're doing something for your family.

If Sony now have complete control, there’s no vetoing AI Freddie or hologram Freddie. Conversely, one assumes that Queen plus Adam Lambert now need permission to show Queen visuals and recordings in concert. It may seem easy to say “well, QAL have probably negotiated a right to use their own music and visuals on tour”, but what about CGI generated sets that use concepts from Queen like Frank the Robot or say, the Queen crest coming alive?

Some of the stuff that I like to listen to these days are -The Pretty Reckless, Halestorm ,Blues Pills , Nine Inch Nails , Orange Goblin and King Diamond who have been going some time but are very good. Also I will be buying the new Deep Purple album who seem to have been going forever but are still recording & touring.

There we go then... brianmay.com/brian-news/2024/07/brian-may-oiqfc-letter-summer-2024/
Hello dear Folks –
Bri here with a timely timely update ! Well, as Avril would say … everything is changing !!
As I write, there are lots of stories leaked to the Press, about a deal being done between us and the Sony company. So the fact that we are working on a Special Deal with them is no longer a private thing.
It’s actually very exciting—a completely new adventure, in which we retain artistic control of the Queen legacy we built up over all those years, but we divert the monies it makes out there to Sony, in return for a large sum of coins ! I’ve probably already said too much, but this is a decision which will free our children and loved ones from the burden of running the very complex beast which is “Queen” once we are gone, and liberate us from many of the ties which at present hold us back. For me, it will also give me more immediate power to help Britain’s wild animals (see below !!)
We are hopefully close to signing an agreement as I write this message, but of course there can be many a slip between cup and lip, so nobody can take it for granted that it will happen.
Phew ! Glad we got that out of the way !
Aside from that, we’re all taking a break from touring, and catching up with our home lives. And in my own case, catching up with some, to me, very important projects outside the Queen umbrella. My excursion to Starmus was a whirlwind, putting together a collaboration with the amazing Jean-Michel Jarre, and appearing on stage for a song or two with The Offspring … what a blast !! Of course I am part of the team that creates each STARMUS event, so it’s a challenging time all round. But immensely inspiring to be with such talented artists and scientists … all concerned about our planet, and looking for new solutions.
On a completely different subject, I’ve been jumping back into the fight against the tragic badger cull in Britain. Today, I was working on a final edit for our documentary on “Me, the Badgers and the Farmers” – a project Anne Brummer (of “Save-Me”) and I have been working on since long before the Covid lockdown. It’s something very close to my heart – and I think this TV film will finally demonstrate the proof we needed that killing badgers has been a tragic mistake from beginning to end. I wish we could have saved the lives of the 232,000 badgers who have been murdered since Britain came under the rule of the Tories.
Phew ! The world is in turmoil. How powerless do we feel ? But in Britain we get just once chance to reclaim our democracy this coming July 4th. All you other folks have your own problems, I’m afraid. The quality of choices for world leaders must be at an all-time low. And there is violence everywhere, and our very biosphere in which we live and breathe is in peril. What happened to our world ?
July 4th is also hopefully the day our documentary will be aired on BBC Wales. Later it will be available on BBC2 and iPlayer.
What else ? Loads !! I’ve done a track with my old pal Jon Tiven which is a huge “UP” ! I love it !! It’s a song for seminal guitar legend Steve Cropper in collaboration with the coolest guitarist on the planet. You know who that is – right ? Billy Gibbons !!! Yay. Can’t wait to land this record in your laps, folks !! I’m also putting together plans to play with the amazing Andrea Bocelli in Tuscany in July. Yes, it’s a dream invitation and I want to make sure I am worthy. So it’s back to playing every day for me until that moment.
What else … well, Roger and I are neighbours now, so we see each other quite a bit socially. It’s a bit like the Old Days when we first got together. Who knows what might happen ? ?
OK … Need to sleep now !! God Bless yo’all !!!! Take care out there
Bri XX

I think that must have come out a while back, as he was talking about the election, pre-election. I'd also seen the Sony stuff before, but it does seem to confirm that they've made the decision so to avoid leaving the burden of the 'Queen Machine' to their families.
