Now that the 'Star Fleet' boxset is out there, what's everyone's thoughts on his next one?
* 'Furia'? * a live release? * something new? * that album of his favourite classical music that he's mentioned once? * or perhaps a compilation of all his guest appearances, one-off tracks, ect?
Do we think his work with Kerry Ellis will get the boxset treatment, given technically, it's mainly under her name?
Discuss.

For what it's worth, I'd think 'Furia' would be the next cab off the rank, as it's the last solo album without a boxset treatment yet.
Or maybe a 'Brixton' boxset, but I'd guess that'd be a part of any potential live concert boxset.
I'll stick with my original guess.

I'm not convinced Furia will be part of the "Gold Series". I think it will be Brixton next, hopefully with a Blu-ray, and some other live stuff included.

Bri named on Abbey Road the other day a couple of projects that he wants to release on the Gold Series. He said Furia, Brixton and a compilation of Collaborations through the years

Furia could be nice with a DVD/BR of the movie, and my favorite Brian solo track 'Dream of Thee' as a 7" and cd-single.

He has done a lot of these and having them all in one place would be a good idea. Brixton most likely will be next (hopefully).

If the Gold Series is his attempt to organize his legacy and provide definitive versions, he should definitely consider at last releasing something from the AW tour when he's done wit the re-releases.

Personally I'm hoping for the full Palace Theater show as a bonus.

Live stuff
Brixton audio and video, plus some of
- Palace Theatre audio - Albert Hall audio /video
Furia would make zero commercial sense, they'd never sell enough to make it viable.
Guest appearances would be a logistical nightmare getting permission, plus there isn't the audience PLUS there are no songwriting royalties to be had for the vast majority of it.

I know we've already got some of it but it would still be nice to have it all without having to home-edit bits together. Furia would make zero commercial sense, they'd never sell enough to make it viable. Agreed. I don't even own a copy of it myself. I'm not sure how well it sold, but Phil Collins did one and it's a pretty good set: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plays_Well_with_Others_(Phil_Collins_album)

If he does the Furia soundtrack I hope he does it last so that he wonβt be discouraged from releasing further box sets when it sells exactly 12 copies. I love Dream Of Thee but find the rest too, ah, atmospheric (I guess? I donβt want to say boring) for repeated listens.

You'd be surprised.... Brian is a canny old bird and he made sure he retained permission to use the tracks himself at a future date as part of the agreements.

To be fair, we have no idea what's going to be included with Brixton. Personally I'm hoping for the full Palace Theater show as a bonus. As much as I'd like him to release more live stuff from the BTTL tour as bonuses for Brixton, and I too agree it'd make sense to include more stuff from that tour to keep things coherent (I don't know why this doesn't get mentioned enough, but the Barcelona'93 gig was professionally filmed, wasn't it? Not to mention some South American concerts from 1992), I still feel a proper live album from the AW era is the worst miss on his solo career. Once Brixton is out of the way, he should consider making a live AW album/video/boxset, and I'm sure we'll buy enough copies of those to make it financially viable. Maybe I'm wrong about his choices and he'll include a double disk with a full concert from AW on the Brixton set, making it's central subject The Brian May Band's full career rather than the era and context where the Brixton concert took place, who knows? Or maybe he'll just add a few tracks from that era into a bonus disk and call it a day... Furia would make zero commercial sense, they'd never sell enough to make it viable. Well, aren't most Gold Series products niche items aimed at fans/collectors? Most new fans are just listening to his albums on Spotify or Apple Music anyway. Queen also still sells Flash Gordon in all formats they sell other albums, gave it the deluxe treatment in 2011 etc. I suppose many people who have been buying his Gold Series boxsets or double CDs would buy Furia if he added interesting bonuses, and many people buying just the plain album on CD or vinyl might still get Furia for the sake of having a complete Brian May collection. I include myself in the second group.

Well, aren't most Gold Series products niche items aimed at fans/collectors? Some niches are much more niche-y. Star Fleet, BTTL and AW all made the UK charts on first release. The latter two had hit singles, just about. Furia barely got released. You could make the same argument that Flash Gordon is as viable a box set as Queen II

One release he could do and I don`t think has been mentioned is (tin hat on now) Talking of Love. Furia ...I have a copy but it has only been played once! Probably the same as most people on here.

Some links should come with a trigger warning, starting with any of the UK tabloids. I have a particular aversion to the Daily Mail.

Brixton deserves so much to be released as a Gold series.
For me it's the highlight of Brian's live playing, he was so much on fire, saw the show twice (Rotterdam and DΓΌsseldorf). Unforgettable!
He could ask Yoko permission again to release God (The dream is over) and include all material of the BTTL tour.
Brixton June 1993 Barcelona Dec 1993 Rio de Janeiro Nov 1992 These are all professionally shot.
Los Angeles from April 1993 is proved to be available.
Countless Too Much Love Will Kill You live TV performances that are all worthwhile because of delicate guitar work or different lyrics in foreign languages (French, maybe spanish or italian?). Last Horizon, Driven By You, Resurrection are also played as TV performance.
Maybe there are some more soundboard or video recordings out there as well.

I still cannot believe that people actually need this much space or luxury. Yes, I would like to have one additional room where I live, but the size of his new house is just beyond anything. I can only imagine that at least 60% of the rooms will be empty?

I'd like more than one more room. I'd love a proper home cinema, with soft leather seating, plus a room to use as a 'library' for all my CDs, Blurays, etc (at the moment all my CDs are in boxes in the garage), and I'd love a music room where I could crank up the guitars without bothering the neighbours. I'd let someone else do the planning applications, as it was pointed out that I struggle with structural dimensions! π

I would assume Brixton is next. I never considered Furia to be part of Brian's solo collection, more as a side step.
A separate Another World Live issue would be much appreciated by me as well, but then it's done. For me there's no need to do a collaborations set.
The three releases that are out now, made me realise how cool it would be if Roger did such Gold Series for his albums. Especially, Fun in Space and Strange Frontier would have my blessing. With the Lot already out, that probably will never happen.

Full brixton show (on cd and blu ray) plus all his solo music videos and live appearances (that he can secure rights for) would be amazing.

He HAS said Brixton will be re-released, so there's a good chance this will be next. But what a dull boxset that would be if it was JUST Brixton. Defo one for the 6 month later price reduction on Amazon...

He has opportunity to release live set with South America 1992 shows, Los Angeles and Barcelona 1993 shows, Paris and VH1 acoustic concerts, Royal Albert Hall 1998 show and probably some others we don't know about...
