I'm afraid to say I didn't recognise the name but I recognised the face. I soon realised he was in one episode of Fawlty Towers so to think he was in many different shows over the years, he will be remembered.

Very sad . Itโs getting to a point whereby many entertainers I grew up watching are passing away .

I knew Des when I was five or six as I used to watch Countdown. (I was addicted to it for some reason!) Also used to enjoy old repeats of Take Your Pick on Challenge.
RIP

Good times x I've always known who Bobby Ball was but I knew him best from Not Going Out. He had just filmed the latest series of the show before he sadly died. He was still on form I thought which made it very shocking. It's sad to think that many comics from the 60s and 70s have all passed on now but their influence is still and probably will always be recognised.

one of my favourite Bobby Ball moments: Rik, another great who died to soon . I went to see Rik when he and Ade Edmondson toured with Bottom - Hooligans Island. Great show full of stupid, puerile, adult slapstick comedy and more memorable when Ade Edmondson actually did swing a kick at Rik's gentleman's area which actually did connect. But ever the pro, Rik got up and laughed it off and got on with the show . Great laugh the whole show was.

Luckily it wasnt quite a full on kick but he was supposed to make it look like he kicked Rik and just miss but unfortunately he swung his boot a bit too far and connected. Mayall clearly winced when it happened though.

Diego Maradona has died from a heart attack less than a month after his 60th birthday. The Argentinian football legend died at home - just three weeks after having surgery on a blood clot in his brain. Maradona won the World Cup with Argentina in 1986 having knocked England out of the tournament in a match which saw him score the infamous 'Hand of God' goal and another - widely considered to be one of the greatest goals of all time - covering 70 yards of pitch, beating half the England team (two players twice ) and leaving Shilton on his backside clutching desperately at nothing. While with Napoli he won the Serie A title in 1987 and 1990, along with an Italian Cup in 1987 and a Uefa Cup in 1991.

thing that always puzzled me about the infamous "Hand of God" was why such a fuss was made of the whole thing, without any recriminations against a hapless England goalkeeper. Fact: Shilton = 6'0" Fact: Maradona = 5'4" Fact: Shilton had an 8" height advantage. Fact: Shilton was allowed to use his hands anyway. So how does a 6'0" goalkeeper with proportionately longer arms get out-reached by someone 5'4" ? Yes Maradona cheated (I'm Irish, I still haven't got over Thierry Henry playing basketball against Ireland), but tell me how a world class keeper, in his own penalty area got outjumped and beaten to the ball? Shilton has spent decades speaking out about this - but the truth is - he was late coming out for the ball...and to compound things Shilton (6'0") has somehow managed to jump down to 5'0" Slow the clip down Maradona would have still beaten him to it if he had no hands, arm, head or even a neck!
