With sales at 6.885 Queen I is at #5 not at #3 as is stated in OCC midweek charts.
If it manages to stay in top 5 or top 10 then every studio album has a top 10 entry.
I am sure that, if OCC and EMI - Universal records will do certification, all studio albums are going to have platinum award (Queen, QII, Jazz, The Game, Flash Gordon, Hot Space).
If I am correct, the certification award was in UK and and USA up to 1978 (Jazz) based on revenue not copies sold. The copies that sold were huge. If I remember Queen first and second cross each over 150000 £ by early 1976 and awarded gold. (Trident must have coverd by the time of SHA with the revenue from singles, and the previous album , as QII was gold in 1975 before Bohemian Rhaspody)
Now the majority of their singles have gone from nothing to gold and from silver or gold to platinum and multiplatinum.

That’s a point, I didn’t listen closely enough to notice, but I assume the remixes of the De Lane Lea demos has just been about smartening them up rather than actively altering them like the main album remixes?

Just a couple of thing's that I have noticed recently, that as almost all of us on this site have been very pleased with "Queen 1 2024 Box Set" I did see some bad reviews of the Box Set on Amazon by a few Queen fans who said it sounded worse than the original. I think it does sound a lot better than the original I mean listen to the difference of "Modern Times Rock N Roll." Also when browsing on Amazon last night for something exciting that they might have by Queen [they never do !] I came across a "Queen 1 2024 Box Set" Japanese import to be released in a few weeks for £384,58p ! It looks exactly the same as the one we have just purchased . Is there anybody on this site going to buy this release ? I know that some of you have to have everything that Queen release for your collection but this has got be something to pass on.

One little niggle I have is why couldn't they have made the paper inner sleeve fit inside the lyric inner sleeve for the vinyl? If it was never meant to then why print the lyrics on a 'sleeve' rather than a nice card insert?

CD2 is a remixed version of the De Lane Lea demo tape, which is why no I is added. 'Queen' simply refers to the artist name here. All other discs are alternative versions of the first disc (namely sessions, instrumentals, bbc takes & live versions), hence they are called 'Queen I'. The De Lane Lea tape, while of course containing partly the same tracklist, is not an alternative version of the album.

Love 99% of what is in the box set and have enjoyed reading through everyones views. I need to give it another good hear when I get the house to myself but love the band talking and working around the tracks disc - even if its not 100% in the moment/at that moment but is new to me never heard. I have never heard Hangman but sorry it was a B side at best to me and see why they worked on other tracks for future albums but good to have and good quality. Some have Great King Rat as a highlight and so if you are one of those I have made a video for it and what better time and hope you find it a treat.

It arrived the following day. The Japanese set comes with a bonus B2 poster for early orders. It's exactly the same (CD Japan even make clear that "the vinyl is pressed outside of Japan") aside from the fact that it has SHM-CDs rather than the regular CDs and a text insert in Japanese as is always the case. To be honest, I can never really identify any improvement in SQ between SHM-CDs and regular CDs. Regardless, the Amazon price you refer to is crazy when it's freely available to order from Japan for less than half that (excluding shipping).

Very well done, quite enjoyable! Leaps and bounds better than the Night Comes Down video (but that should go without saying).

Well! One week had passed since the release so I can say some things about it i am sure of. I don't really think the drums were re recorded but I can assure you, as a drummer, that they were overprocessed and in some parts is it too much just like a trigger pad. If you listen to seven seas of rhye intro fill you can hear the hits of the snare perfectly hydentical just like you are playing on a drum machine. Also the drum part there is different from the original. It sounds like a fake snare or too much polished. I think they used a trigger or a sample on the snare or "beat detecting". SSOR is the perfect example of "Beat detecting" or even "drum padding" (the intro fill is little different between 1973 and 2024). This prove of my theory is that days ago i was commenting the center line of the dolby atmos of TNCD having just the kick and snare without any return noise of hi hat or any other thing YOU ALMOST OFTEN GET WHILE RECORDING. Maybe they also polished them? IDK but this thing made the drums sounding just "a Kick and snare with the original drum cymbals" (room mics?) whatever you want call em. Of course I prefer the De Lane Lea remix much more... The drums on the new remix are fantastic, but that snare is too fake I'm sorry. Just hear the difference between the cymbals (sounding the same, old as 1973) and the too-modern snare drum. But I must say that the entire work is a beauty to listen to. Cleanliness, modernity, everything is great!
I didn't like the "fake stereo" on Hangman or Doing all right. It's useless, we didn't need it. AI is really taking over. I am happy with the result because of the freshy mix (like it at 70%), Love the De lane lea (better than Queen I), love the sessions and the new live tracks. Hope for Queen II they give less polishing or tech touchings. De Lane Lea 2024 is the example of how great things can be done! They gave us this cool boxset, these lovely sessions and live tracks so i am more than happy of that! Finally something really worthing. Thank you Queen!

Queen now have all their studio albums entered in top ten.
Overall with live album have 10 number one.
Queen first album new peak at #10 UK
At least some justice in charts, regarding its peak potision. If it was only physical sales it could have done lot of better.

Hope for Queen II they give less polishing or tech touchings. De Lane Lea 2024 is the example of how great things can be done! If they re-release Queen II with minimal remixing and focus more on the alt sessions, outtakes and rarities, that's a home run and I'd be happy as a clam.

Keep Yourself Alive - reverb on guitars and "reworked" drums are the very first thing that sticks out, some effects have been taken off of Freddie's voice and others have been chosen as a replacement ("be a superstar" being a prime example). Clarity, WOW, just wow! Then again, what the hell happened with Roger's drum solo and Brian's guitar part - a transition for a listener from that solo to the chorus ? Some people use the word "neutered" or "lifeless", whereas I choose the word "tamed". At 3:18-3:20 there's noticeable pitch correction on Freddie's voice.
2. Doing All Right - On the very first listen of the new mix I truly was genuinely thinking that I was listening to a slightly different vocal take. Here, pitch correction/melodyne is used the strongest and in most aggresive way. The clarity applied here to this track unfortunately killed the impressionism - the crucial side of that song's sound.
3. Great King Rat - What a rocker, like a train sweeping everything off its path, blasting into your ears. I've never heard the clapping right after the acoustic solo ornamented with Freddie's "deary me.... dirty old man". They've brought it up nicely in the mix.
4. Mad The Swine - Having been so used to the 1991 version (the Freddie approved one!) you instantly hear the difference in the way Freddie's voice has been mixed into this new track. Pushed more upfront while chorus and bv's have taken a step back. Then from 1:36-1:47 pitch correction is saying hello to your ears. Some bongos have been completely muted for this new mix.
5. MY FAIRY KING - Man, I have been so so looking forward to what treatment this track got. THE MIGHTIEST TRACK on the Queen I album. It kicks in and the first question you can ask is: If every guitar phrase has been "revisited" for this mix (according to our good doctor) then why they've decided to keep the first, the very first one important guitar phrase buried, unclear on that very track ? The tricky thing here is : balance of the tracks, the decision which vocal track vs harmony vs counterpoint should be more prominent. The middle eight, the part that I absolutely love about the track "They turn.... milk into sour [...]" has been pitch corrected [listen to the word "veins"] as well as the softly sung Freddie's last vocal lines on the track. The big question for the particular mix here is : "Where the flying duck is John Deacon's bass line, absolutely crucial for the melody and harmony cohesion of that track?"
6. Liar - Listen how the hand claps sound on the original 73' mix. I am not a fan of the direction the recording engineers Justin Shirley-Smith, Joshua J Macrae, and Kris Fredriksson took here. Sorry guys it just doesn't work and heavily relies on the 1991 Hollywood remix. As is the case on the previous tracks with the balance of the separate vocal tracks vs harmony vs counterpoint some "artistic" choices have too been made here to the very same field. The second "why don't you leave me alone" is either a different vocal take or have been noticeably brought up in the mix. The sung word "Liar" from 5:47-5:49 is the best example of pitch-correction a phrase into distortion. Has the quality control taken a break during the listening of the final mixes for this remix ?
7. The Night Comes Down - Delicacy, the haunting feeling and uncertainty in Freddie's voice are lost here. Many people have expressed what caused this so I won't repeat it here.
8. Modern Times Rock And Roll - I am certain that Roger is happy with the final result. Loud, energetic. As some poster has mentioned here, you can hear the pitch correction on the bit 0:47-0:50, the word "use" but if he has given this a green light then...
9. Son & Daughter - The track that makes Nirvana and Metallica and Led Zep look stupid. The grudginess and the vibe of the track being recorded in some underground, alternative studio is lost in the new mix. I miss the prominent guitars and the absolutely drugg-ish, psychedelic outro. Queen are pioneers but this mix character-wise is a step-back.
10. Jesus - The drum roll, it makes you wish that there was another one just before Freddie starts signing. Fantastic bit, glad that they've brought it up and given this track a more edge. A pity about the final chorus - no original effect here, the echo / cathedral character is missing here.
I will address the elephant in the room now : a l t e r i n g the vocals.
We love Freddie Mercury for the sum of his imperfections that made his voice perfect. No human voice in existence is literally pitch perfect. It's biologically impossible for the human voice to remain completely pitch perfect due to vibrato, breath, strain etc... The reason autotune sounds awful to the human ear is because it manipulates the voice into becoming literally perfectly on pitch, which is unnatural and therefore unappealing to us. I've never listened to Freddie sing and thought "Damn, he went slightly flat at 3:22. Ugh, such a bad vocal performance." Anyone that does think like that may have few screws loose. If you alter the voice, you meddle with expression itself and the character of the phrase, the very execution of a vocal line. It requires artist's consent to do that and Freddie is not here with us to say "no" or "yes" to this. None of us can know if Freddie would or would not use pitch correction if he were alive, and that is my point. You cannot know. So let the art that he left behind speak for itself. You don't go and put clothes on the statue of David because its nude depiction is considered inappropriate with modern sensibilities. You don't paint tits on the Mona Lisa because that'd make the image more interesting to look at.
What is puzzling for me when it comes to the final 2024 mix is that there is no organics of the sound. It is like they've separated all the tracks, revisited them, then stitched together while mismanaging the balance and the resonation. "Togetherness" is lost.

One more thing: I love the intro to My Fairy King on the sessions disk that they couldn’t get right. Since this is labeled “Trident Backing Track in Development” this is obviously early in that song’s recording. I love the way this song starts on the album, but it’s fascinating to hear this ultimately unused opening. And John’s voice makes an appearance between all the attempts at getting it right! Actually, the opening is exactly the same as on the album. The intro just lacks Brian's guitar part and that's why it sounds different. The guitar makes such a difference here. Without it, the intro is just hi-hats and a couple of chords on a piano.

The reason autotune sounds awful to the human ear is because it manipulates the voice into becoming literally perfectly on pitch, which is unnatural and therefore unappealing to us. I've never listened to Freddie sing and thought "Damn, he went slightly flat at 3:22. Ugh, such a bad vocal performance." Anyone that does think like that may have few screws loose. If you alter the voice, you meddle with expression itself and the character of the phrase, the very execution of a vocal line. It requires artist's consent to do that and Freddie is not here with us to say "no" or "yes" to this. None of us can know if Freddie would or would not use pitch correction if he were alive, and that is my point. You cannot know. So let the art that he left behind speak for itself. You don't go and put clothes on the statue of David because its nude depiction is considered inappropriate with modern sensibilities. You don't paint tits on the Mona Lisa because that'd make the image more interesting to look at.
What is puzzling for me when it comes to the final 2024 mix is that there is no organics of the sound. It is like they've separated all the tracks, revisited them, then stitched together while mismanaging the balance and the resonation. "Togetherness" is lost. Very good review!!!! I have a question reworked drumd means drum samples over the original? When Queen announced the new remix ,I tried to put aside my hardcore fan love, because the original purity might be lost or altered. It is a different beast, has room, power and clarity. Thr original is more earthly and warm. The original LP is a record that, I don't listen often, because of its sound. Many times I tried to change the EQ in my home system to have a better listening. I was usually listened via its tracks from BBC versions (My Fairy king for example) and from live albums or bootlegs. Now The Great King Rat, Son and Daughter, Liar are far better in my ears compare to the original. Jesus I really miss the ending, when a member here did vocal only A.i from Demos , it was marvelous like hearing Cathedral choir.

Loved your detailed analysis of each of the remixed album's tracks!
Out of everything you mentioned, this take on "Liar" is what I noticed most as well; especially the difference in the intro riff. The dead stop claps were jarring and took me out of it immediately. I've always loved that intro and I'm constantly banging it on things. I don't know that I dislike this new take (yet), it's just...different. Time will tell. And honestly, I've been so fixated on the outtakes/alt takes disc, I've yet to properly give the remixed album a deep dive listen.
