From the infamous missing Avro's TopPop performance of Killer Queen, in front of a blue Chroma Key screen. Photographer: Gijsbert Hanekroot-Chin I always found it interesting that they made Brian and John use those matching Fenders for that appearance rather than their own guitars. Must have been newly bought by the studio for miming purposes, as natural started becoming one of Fender's offered colors at the time.

Why in the hell is he tuning for a mimed performance?

And then a couple months later Brian's playing a Les Paul on TOTP.
To be a fly on the wall for those discussions...

This time, it was from his own collection as it was his Les Paul Deluxe (note what looked like mini buckers) I guess in this case, the Old Lady had some problems. Maybe a broken string that wasn't addressed in time or something? I've seen Brian with Strats and a Tele, but him with a Les Paul was something else. Red Special aside, I always thought he's more of a Fender guy.

I do remember watching an interview where Brian said that if he didn't have his Red Special, he'd be playing an SG. Now as for which interview that was, I don't know. Was from the 2000s though

Only seen Bri with an SG once - and it was a photo session, not a gig.
Whoever put this collage together did a beautiful job.

That's from the Now I'm Here performance, with the Les Paul, isn't it? Oh, for the full audio of that.

He just used an SG recently on one of his Instagram miniconcerts. Whoever made this collage did a fine work indeed. Man, that Stingray on the 1st pic looked smaller on him!

Anyone knows anything about this one? If I had to guess I'd say it's somewhere in Cornwall in 69/70, but literally no idea. I've seen this pic one year ago and an account in insta said that it's Freddie in his home in 1971 but his hair was not so straight on 1969_1971 and it was more like curly and I'm guess that's probably from 1973_1975

Spotted this in the recent '50 Jahre of Queen' documentary. Again, no idea what & where. Surely the year is 1975, I guess the ridge farm is where the pic was taken

Freddie playing the mini-koto, probably in his flat, not sure. Well that's not from his flat actually it was taken in Tokyo, Japan (not sure of the place) during the sheer heart attack tour in Japan in April 1975, and the mini koto and the kimono that Freddie had in this pic is a gift from fans I guess

He wore that Superman shirt for years.
Side note: I don't care what anyone says - there was no better looking rock band in 1974.

Do we have any idea who might have the full version? I believe it was said to be in the hands of a collector. 🤔

And the last ones for now. One of the most important pics of the band (recording session in Scorpio Studios for ANATO) 1. Freddie checking his notes And that's what concentration looks like. Mercury was truly a musician in 75.
This one isn't as high res, but it's a bit more detailed.
Thanks! Yeah, that's why I love this pic. In 1975 he was still chasing his musical dreams, while a few years later he was focused on chasing his personal dreams which resulted in a drastic change of image, behaviour, and losing that will and focus.

I would love to know where it is. Looks like 1977 We can usually date photos based on hairstyles, but headphones tend to ruin hair !
Maybe they're recording Sheer Heart Attack ?
Or is there some other song on NOTW or Jazz where Brian isn't in on the harmonies?
@sebastian ?
I'd agree with NastyQueenie that they're recording 'A Day at the Races'. Look closely at Roger's hair - still long, but to me they look pretty 'matured' so I'd say 1976. Unless it's a guest appearance for someone else, not later than spring 1977, going by Roger's hair.

Freddie playing the mini-koto, probably in his flat, not sure.
I'd say it's a hotel room in Japan. People usually didn't have lamps like that in their houses.
Keep 'em coming - love your bits of commentary on the photos.
I said his flat bacause that's what I tend to rememebr when finding this pic. But you're probably right. Well, it's easier to comment on the photos when they are interesting to start with, but thanks

To me he looks way too young here to be anyway close to 1975. Look at this photo from December 1969. He doesn't look any younger here but his hair isn't so long yet: So I'd say 1970-71. For now I'm left to believe that Insta post.

I’d say this was taken sometime in early / mid ‘74 if I had to take a guess.
