May I ask what's the occasion of this picture? A rough date or what ceremony. I don't see Mercury wearing this top very often. Thanks very much. It's always an oddity to see a 70s shot where Freddie is the most normal looking one in the group.

Queen receiving gold discs for 'News Of The World' album by EMI Electrola, the German division of EMI. If I remember right, these pictures were taken during the ceremony held by the company in Dortmund in April 1978. Queen were on tour at the time. According to my records it was in Munich, on May 3.
Here's another shot:
Sorry guys, The Real Wizard has right. The event was organized in Munich on 3 May 1978, the last concert in Germany of that year. I made some confusion, I'm sorry

Buenos Aires, 28th February 1981. Photos © Tony Frank. Not sure about these, but they could be from this show as well. These were also taken by Tony Frank. Incredible shots from an historic night !
And the others are almost certainly from the same show too - although it's entirely possible he made the 4 1/2 hour drive to Mar Del Plata, the only other night in Argentina where Freddie wore the same outfit. Any chance you could ask ?

They were labeled as Buenos Aires, 4 March 1981. Obvoiusly, the date is wrong... But it's possible that they taken the same night judging Freddie's haircut.

They may well be from both nights. His hair looks different in these two shots, but of course the second one could be later in the gig after sweating:

Brian wore different outfits though, and his outfit above matches 2/28.

A couple great Neal Preston shots. New Orleans, October 31st 1978. Because Fred has both the red and silver outfits on this night, it's safe to assume they probably did an extra encore with Jailhouse Rock that night (the silver is clearly for WWRY and Champions given Fred's pose in the fourth pic). San Diego, July 5th 1980 Interesting shot of Fred in a unique outfit. Don't know the date but it's surely no later than 1975. Another great shot from the 78 Jazz Tour.

Photographer Tony Frank was also present on the second night in Buenos Aires and took these wonderful pictures on 1st March 1981. Great stuff. So are you in touch with him personally ? It'd be great to sort out the dates of that first photo set.
Here's one of those shots uncropped - he's a pro photographer:

Here's one of those shots uncropped - he's a pro photographer: I find his photos casually during a research on web. He published them on his website, but unfortunately they are all labeled as Buenos Aires 4th March 1981...we know for sure that Queen performed in Buenos Aitres on 28th February, 1st March and 8th March 1981 and in Mar del Plata on 4th March. There is another set of photos taken during the 'News Of The World' tour in 1978, also labeled as 1981. Since Tony Frank is a French professional photographer, I presume that these photos were taken in Paris in April 1978 during one of the two concerts at Pavillon de Paris. They are marvellous.

Indeed ! Comparing them to the existing photos from 4/24/78 it looks like they'd have to be from the first night (based both on Brian's outfits and the mic cables on the drum kit resting differently).
But seeing as he travelled to Argentina to shoot them a few years later, in theory they could be from any of those European dates because it was his job.

Surely they aren't from April 24th, as Freddie switched to the black outfit during the guitar solo, and we can clearly see some shots during that section where he is still in the Black and White outfit (note Brian's outfit which he usually wore for the encores). I would seriously doubt that these are the 23rd either, as Freddie pretty much never wore the same outfit over a two night stand in a venue on the News of the World Tour. The outfits do seem to match with the April 21st Brussels pics I shared a while back in this thread, and Brussels isn't too far out, so perhaps it's from that night.

Mine was a guess, but I'm happy to see that my doubt has been resolved. Thank you Ryan Newton and The Real Wizard . Since today is a very good day for Queen's photos, I want to share this pic taken by Neal Preston in 1982, published on his page not so long ago (he himself called it unpublished). Never seen that outfit before.

Judging by the bass drum, that may be later on the U.S. leg – but could be Japan as well? Not sure if there are any Japanese dates that don't have any photos.

The only Japanese Hot Space show we have a good idea about visually is 11/3/82, mostly due to the video. For some reason the tapers ran rampant in Japan but the photographers didn't - I wonder why that is ?

For sure, this isn't the European tour of 1982. Most of the pictures taken by Neal Preston are from North America, but as The Real Wizard said it could be Japan too...Koh Hasebe, the well known Japanese photographer, took some pics during the US tour in 1982, so everything is possible.

If it is in Japan, the Fukuoka x2, Nishinomiya and Tokorozawa shows, where the pattern of Freddy's tank top is known, can be removed from the list of candidates.

Wait, why both Fukuokas and Nishinomiya? I didn't know we have pictures of all of these shows

Fantastic photos! Fairfield was just outside of the Bay Area. With that in mind and the position of the boxes around Roger's drum set, these are definitely from Oakland.

All Oakland shows we currently have recordings from are absolutely amazing and I hope some more recordings will be found. Very glad to see wonderful pics.

This one is WWRY in the first encore - both Deacon and May are playing in the key of A. Probably in the first 8 or so bars of the solo, as Mercury hasn't made his way to the piano for Champions yet.

Does anyone have better quality and more shots from acoustic set of Edinbourgh 1976.09.02 show, which was used for gatefold of 'A Day At The Races' ?

Here's what I've got from Edinburgh:

I read not too long ago that the gatefold picture for A Day at the Races was taken by Watal Asanuma at the Hyde Park show. He was too close to the stage to get the full band so the shot of Brian is from a different photographer. edit: I swear the claim came from Asanuma himself, but that tambourine on the ground near the bass drum is an indication that it's not Hyde Park, I think. I'm going to try to find the Asanuma story again.

If it's a Neal Preston photo, I highly doubt it's from Japan. His recent Queen photobook only features North American dates for the Hot Space tour, and his online bio mentions he travelled to Mexico and South America with Queen, but doesn't mention Japan. If he went to Japan with Queen, there would have to be pictures in his recent book, especially off-stage ones. In response to another post from Leon's Crazy Game, Music Life magazine sent Koh Hasebe to shoot the shows on October 19th and 20th in Fukuoka and the 24th in Nishinomiya. Here's the top in colour, but on display with no useful information:
