Does anyone have better quality and more shots from acoustic set of Edinbourgh 1976.09.02 show, which was used for gatefold of 'A Day At The Races' ? I read not too long ago that the gatefold picture for A Day at the Races was taken by Watal Asanuma at the Hyde Park show. He was too close to the stage to get the full band so the shot of Brian is from a different photographer. edit: I swear the claim came from Asanuma himself, but that tambourine on the ground near the bass drum is an indication that it's not Hyde Park, I think. I'm going to try to find the Asanuma story again. Okay, maybe I got the Hyde Park part of the story confused? But the photo is definitely by Watal Asanuma, and he says the photo was used for A Day at the Races without him knowing about it. A bunch of his photos were made available on Getty Images a few months ago, but there's nothing from Edinburgh, unfortunately.

Too bad they're out of focus - there aren't too many shots of the ukulele banjo at stage left.

Playhouse Theatre Edinburgh, Scotland September 1976. The photo could have been taken on both 1st and 2nd September 1976.

There's a photo I like. I believe it's from eBay, thus the watermark is not the party holding its copyright, so I take the liberty to remove the watermark. If it's inappropriate I will take the picture down immediately.

Strangely enough that both ANATO and ADATR are the only two albums which didn't feature any credits about photographers. BTW, does anyone know who is the author of live photo of the band on stage from the inner sleeve of ANATO?

1977.12.04 Dayton Photos by Brad Paxton For whatever reason, these shots were labeled as 1976.02.15 Toledo. They're definitely Dayton NOTW, you can see shots of the inverted checkered outfit and the red and green outfit, as seen in the 8mm.

Well spotted.
Therefore this one is WWRY off the top of the show.

Found this pic labeled as Los Angeles 1977; for sure, this was taken in 1978 during the North American leg of the 'Jazz' tour (maybe at Los Angeles Forum on 18th, 19th or 20th December 1978). It's a slightly different shot of Freddie with the two bodyguards dressed as Superman. Photo by Tom Paradiso.

And for a bit more speculation, I would bet on that shot being from the last night on 12/20. They allegedly performed Big Spender and Jailhouse Rock, so having the extra encore would allow for Fred to change out into that outfit (which was otherwise only seen on this tour during the very early dates). This shot below is also apparently from Los Angeles, and it appears to be at the end of the show, but Fred is not in the silver lurex suit like he is above, so it would make sense that the below pic would be from 12/18 or 12/19.

Agreed with Ryan Newton that it was likely a last night gag, but clearly they liked it enough that they made it a full time thing a year later.

Here's another shot from the same point in the show. This one was taken by Neal Preston, and (from what I know) he was only with the band during the US leg on the Jazz Tour, which pretty much seals the deal for these being LA shots.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. It allegedly came from the last night in Los Angeles. Unfortunately we don't have a recording of that show!

20 april 1982 Lyon Palais des Sports Right, I thought I'd recognized them !
Probably best if we don't post links to photos that have already been online for years, unless we're trying to solve a mystery or something. This thread seems to have morphed into a place to post new ones that haven't been seen before.

ok, I put the link to avoid posting all the photos. these photos are exclusive and my sole property, so if it is copyright the problem does not exist. moreover, I don't have my original copies with me at the moment and therefore the only way to present them to everyone was this. However, OK. best regards and thanks

I found an article on the Dutch magazine 'Hitkrant' called 'Queen in Amerika'. After a quick translation, I found that the article reviews the Queen concert in New York City on 5th February 1977 (the album 'A Day At The Races' and the Queen concerts at Madison Square Garden in New York and at the Los Angeles Forum are mentioned), arguing that this was better than the previous year (John Rockwell's review published on the New York Times is cited). Unfortunately the date of the magazine is not reported, but thanks to these infos I believe that it's dated around mid-March 1977. However the photographs accompanying the article were taken during the 1976 North American tour and I believe they may have come from one of the concerts at the Beacon Theater in February 1976. What do you think about it? Below the full article in Dutch. The photographer's name is not mentioned.
