I couldn't find a picture of John with a guitar in the studio (though I have seen one from the AKOM sessions), but a quick Google search led me to a rabbit hole, where I found this new-to-me image of John on guitar. Obviously they're rehearsing Staying Power in 1982, but I have no info where it is or what the date was.

I've seen this pic and I'm sure that the pic is from June 5th performance in Milton Keynes in 1982

Hi everybody in this great forum I'm a newcomer to this forum and I want to say anyone can learn me how to post pic in this forum (with phone cause I'm working with phone) You have to host the picture on another site like postimages.org/, this site can't host them. I can't help you with how to get the to display on mobile though, your best bet is to switch to desktop view, reply with the orange reply button, press the little button with a painting and past the link into there.

I've found these pics from "Invite You To A Night At The Warehouse" LP from the gig in Brøndby Hallen, copenhagen,Denmark in May 12, 1977, and as you all know this swedish bootleg was released in 1978. as you can see there are 4 shots of Queen in 1974 and 2 shots from 1977(could be from the same gig). so I just want to post these rare shots, anyone have any idea about the 1974 shots?

Are there are any pics of John laying down guitar parts in the studio? Since he played rhythm guitar on a number of songs. Here's what I've got. But it must be said, all of these pics seem to be taken during a downtime. 1. Trident Studios, 1972 (From Brian's 3D book, much recommended) 2. Musicland Studios, Munich 1979 3. Musicland Studios, Munich 1981/82. 4. During meet&greet with fans at Olympic Studios, 1988

2. Musicland Studios, Munich 1979 Wow - never seen this one before.
There was not an ounce of rock star in his body after 1977, or perhaps ever.

The ‘74 shots look a lot like Hamburg to me, they just sense something about that off. But I’m not too sure...

The one at Olympic is brill! Any guitar expert here to tell us the make and model of the one he's playing? Photo 4’s guitar is a Gibson ES-175. The year of the guitar might be 1976 - 1979, as the guitar appears to have a hollow and thin body, and I believe that’s when the original hollow body models were being sold. EDIT: The year of the guitar is 1977, you can see the zig zag at the bottom which is featured on the 1977 model.

2. Musicland Studios, Munich 1979 Deacy on a Strat! Now that's something I never thought I'd see! Also, I don't think that's 1979. Fender didn't start making that version of the Stratocaster until 1980.

It appears to have the same knobs (different color; similar shape) and the same model and make name placement on the headstock as the Strat model.

For this model, they used brass knobs, and even had a different set of electronics compared to a standard Strat. This was around the later part of Fender's CBS era.

On the NOTW box version of Who Needs You, it sounds like he was playing the acoustic, when I'd always assumed that was Brian, but I guess it could just be the way the track was patched together. Is there any evidence of Deaky playing anything other than bass guitar on any other tracks?

Is there any evidence of Deaky playing anything other than bass guitar on any other tracks? Well he started out as a rhythm guitar in his pre-Queen days, I'm sure he's also good on the 6-string. Well he did the piano on Your My Best Friend, that's a famous example. He's actually good playing some funk-like rhythm guitars on Staying Power, I think he did the guitar on Cool Cat. He usually plays guitars on his compositions.
