So I received an email from a friend who wanted to share with me a cat parody of Bohemian Rhapsody. And my initial thought was "Oh boy, not another one." I can't even tell you how many times a friend has shared a parody of Bo Rhap. I've lost count, but it has to be in the hundreds by now. So it got me thinking, what are some things that annoy us Queen fans? For me, it's being shared parodies, especially of Bo Rhap. There are so many out there and for some reason it just rubs me the wrong way. So what say you? What annoys you as a Queen fan?

Any photoshopped or age-progression photo of Freddie.

Old fans gatekeeping being a Queen fan just because they started with the movie, also the term "stepford fans" really annoys me.

Parodies (once you've heard one, you've heard them all), and also cover bands. It's one thing to just play a few Queen songs at a gig or something like that, but when the main guy is dressed like Freddie with the moustache and the Wembley jacket, idk, I know they're doing it to honor the band and mean well and such, but it just feels weird and not in a way that I like, y'know?

I don't see any harm in covers bands, as long as they can play and sing, and do it respectfully with a love for the music. But yeah, why always the bloody Wembley yellow jacket? I might be tempted to go and see a 70s Queen covers band, particularly if they play some interesting stuff that has never been played live by Queen themselves, but I think most of them just want to do the greatest hits.

Speaking of covers... ESL Queen covers where the words are incorrect or not pronounced properly.
And I realize that makes me a complete a-hole, because so many people have such amazing voices, and the world's accents are varied and beautiful. But it just takes me right out of the song.
I'll be worthy of any criticism that comes my way for it.

Cover bands with a tache and a yellow jacket get more bookings than cover bands with a leotard and a tune about ogres...
Can't knock them for catering to the audience

Photos, which were edited with many 'modern' filtres especially for making eyes bigger or skin smoother. It's like CGI parody not photo, shame.

The fact they use the 80s era Freddie 'hologram' and vocals for Love of my life in concerts is a major annoyance to me. While it may be a better quality video source, the Live Killers version is the definitive one that audiences sing along to, its a million times better vocally than the one from Wembley or wherever they took it, and it is also far more reverential to the original which is arguably the most beautiful song in the catalogue. The image of Freddie sticking his ass out and making a mess of the last vocal line because he can't hit the notes is not what this song deserves.

My goodness, a lot of things fit this list. I'm trying to list them without coming off as a "gatekeeper,"so do bear with me.
The list includes: -How (relatively) overlooked/disregarded the solo material is (esp Brian's and Roger's incl the Cross) -If I hear Queen in public at all, it's probably only the more known hits -The fandom for the Borhap CAST that has risen b/c of the movie (if those ppl rly liked the movie they might as well get into Queen themselves, right?) -People automatically poopooing Adam JUST because he isn't Freddie -HOW MUCH HATE HOT SPACE GETS (Not all of it is disco, either!) -Anything having to do with Freddie's lovers -People who don't even call Made in Heaven a Queen album. -Hammer to fall being called "heavy" -Don't stop me now being on a gajillion "Feel good" playlists -Way too many reissues of Greatest hits 1. -Freddie's mustache. Never liked it. -Only ever seeing Greatest hits compilations in retail stores And let's not forget the old classic....people spelling his name "Freddy"

- Greg Brooks still dangling carrots in front of fans. - The constant re-issues of Greatest Hits. - The absence of HD videos on BluRay/YouTube. - "New fans" obsessed with the BoRhap cast and/or the band members children. - The "brand" Queen has become, with Innuendo beach chair and teapot as the absolute low point. - No quality archival releases (preferably in a style similar to Jethro Tull / King Crimson / Marillion) - The focus on the hits/classics. Yes, they made great singles. But I feel that the back catalogue is getting overlooked in favor of Greatest Hits. Also suprised that all the focus seems to go to the 1973-1980 period, while they were probably even bigger in the 80's. I think GH2 doesn't get the attention it deserves. It's an amazing collection of well-crafted pop music. - Brian's social media profiles. He doesn't owe me anything and he can do whatever he likes, but the stuff he puts out there... The Brian Army shirts, the badger stuff, the fan-art, ...

The Brian Army shirts, the badger stuff, the fan-art, ... The ones I bolded annoy me. If those people liked Borhap movie so much, they might as well like Queen, it doesn't make sense otherwise. I had a brief Queen-revisitation in early 2019 (totally not caused by the movie) when this Borhap cast obsession thing started out, and I've never gotten it. GH2 is FAR BETTER than GH1, better yet it contains material from The Miracle and Innuendo, which are my favorite and 2nd-favorite Queen albums respectively. And both of those albums are (relatively) overlooked in favor of The Game, ANATO, NOTW... Need one fully understand what made Queen great in their prime, the back catalog IS THE WAY TO GO. Sure, the hits are great but if that's all a person's gonna listen to then they're missing out big time*. Same goes with their solo catalogs, to see the qualities each member brought to Queen, more readily than one would with Queen proper. *(In my opinion, if someone only knows the hits, it doesn't mean they're any less of a Queen fan than a collector or superfan. For me if they know Queen at all, that's enough.)

apart from the obvious, i really only have one peeve not mentioned (so far): the "lack of depth" in most Queen-related discussion. topics actually digging deeper into the band's music are few and far between. i love the minutiae of the bands I like, analysing and scraping below the surface of the music, lyrics, tours & events. for Queen this is something that (on the whole) is sadly lacking.
the "general music fans" obsession with hits has reduced Queen to being a band most music fans just don't take seriously. i wish that would change, but sadly that ship has sailed.

I get that, but just to play Devil's Advocate, would Smile with Tim Staffell have reached the same heights as Queen did with Freddie Mercury? Not to question the skill of the other musicians, but it was Freddie's magnetism that propelled them in the early days. That said, I was always more drawn to the guitar based tracks, and I think I'd have to say Brian pulled me into the band equally to Freddie, if not more.

I understand a lot of them are kids but it surprises me how much ignorance they have when it comes to the band itself, if they loved the movie so much why didn't they research the band's actual history before believing everything that was said in the movie/coming to conclusions without much research and then spreading misinformation to other fans. The amount of fake Queen rumours that came from speculative or straight up fictional posts on the internet is scary. I also hate their complete lack of respect for the band members' privacies, ESPECIALLY the Deacon family's privacy. Fans just can't accept the fact that John isn't coming back so they dig up private photos, stalk his kids social media and ask them about John/bombard them with their unfunny Queen memes. One of the worst things I've ever seen is a Tumblr blog that was obsessed with John's son Luke and posted dirty fan fiction of him. I feel so bad for John and his family, why can't they just leave him alone?

I know it's not Bohemian Rhapsody but this is one of my favourite Queen parodies: Vic and Bob are very funny comedians, and they do a great job of playing Brian and John respectively. I've never seen a better John impression! Matt Lucas is Freddie in this and his role is quite funny too! (Not a clue who plays Roger though!)

Something, that I personally found annoying, are some Marc Martel fans.
If you like his videos, never enter the comments section. In every single video are people saying things like 'Freddie forget his password, so he created a new account' or throwing shit at Adam just because he's touring with Brian and Roger and not him. And on the other side, they treat him like a God, actually believing that Marc could be the perfect replacement for Freddie and then, leave 'Queen+' behind.

I'm surprised that even though he is a person with the potential to be a reincarnation of Freddie's flamboyance and character, there are people against him. Also, I think I remember reading that Queen said they didn't want a Freddie impersonator.

And about the 'Freddie Impersonator', that's another thing about Marc fans, they want him with Queen because he sounds similiar to Freddie, and they want to comeback again to 70/80s Queen, but sorry, is 2021 and Freddie's isn't here anymore. The other argument of Martel fans, is that Brian and Roger don't want him in Queen because Marc would steal the show, and 'Bri and Rog doesn't want to be in the background'

Never liked it. -Only ever seeing Greatest hits compilations in retail stores And let's not forget the old classic....people spelling his name "Freddy" Emphasizing the ones I bolded: 1. Even though it's not necessary for one to indulge in EVERYTHING Queen-related, it's a fun little bonus to get into the solo material as well. In my first phase as a Queen fan, I also got into the solo material, assuming anyone seriously interested in Queen would follow suit. I was shocked to see how relatively little attention was given to Brian's and Roger's solo works. I thought it would all change post-movie, given all these young fans thirsting over them (especially Roger) but turns out there wasn't a significant change (Granted, there was more attention given, but hardly any emphasis was put on anything post-Strange Frontier for Roger or post-BTTL for Brian). It's very saddening, as some of those overlooked solo albums (Happiness?, MBADTK, Blue Rock, Another World, just to name a few) are among the greatest albums I HAVE EVER HEARD, EVER, and even in Queen circles relatively few people have given them a chance, let alone taken them seriously. 2. It's almost as if it's a cliché among Queen fans to fanatically hate on Hot Space. I understand why so many people talk trash about it, and even I don't like "Body Language," but Hot Space doesn't deserve to be looked upon negatively. If you think about it, in their peak between SHA and The Game, Queen were experimenting with so many different genres and nailing ALL of them. Now imagine Hot Space being the same kind of experimentation albeit (mostly) with disco. And not all of Hot Space is disco either, there's the heavy "Put Out the Fire," the heartwrenching "Life is Real," and even arguably the most underrated track "Calling All Girls," which is a fun little number reminiscent of most things I listen to besides Queen. And who can forget "Under Pressure?" (the one hit from Queen's peak period that doesn't tire me when I hear it). For me, if any album deserves the trashing, it's either The Works (granted, I love RGG and IWTBF, but be God honest the album's a little too short and kinda wonky in most places, maybe if Let Me In Your Heart Again and/or I Go Crazy had been included it would be a saving grace) or Flash Gordon (I've felt that one to be more of a soundtrack/elevator music album than a Queen album). 3. Yes. These people exist. Just because Freddie's gone and most of the songs are re-works of B-sides and solo material, doesn't mean it's any less of a Queen album than anything else they've put out. Some of those remakes changed the songs for the better. I like the version of TMLWKY just as much as Brian's, and needless to say I've enjoyed the MIH versions of Made in Heaven and I Was Born to Love You much more than Freddie's solo versions. Even "My Life Has Been Saved" sounds richer and fresher than the version which appeared on the Bside of Scandal.

Adam, however, has the full package of living up to Freddie - the range enough to pull off the catalog, the flamboyance, the energy, the character...

Personally the lack of unreleased material. Both audio and video. Parodies? It depends... i really love the Muppet version... I really hate the rererererere release of GH1&2 and any of the well known material.

Another thing that pisses me off.
People hearing the Cross's Liar for the first time and going "I thought it was gonna be a version of Queen's Liar!" Gimme a break!
That alone makes me thankful that Bad Attitude wasn't called Tear it Up, lol
