Are they remixes, or does Surrender also have new vocals/instruments?

I've barely listened to Roger's album (started new job last week and I'm exhausted from it) so I've not listened to it in entirety. The three songs I seem to like best are Absolutely Anything, We're All Just Trying To Get By and Foreign Sand. AA seems to be my ultimate favourite. Very very good takes! I'd add Gangsters (purple version)

From what I can see there are still seats available for the Cardiff St. David'S Hall tonight Wednesday 6th October if anyone is interested and in the area.
A support act is down to start at 7:30 pm as well.

I'd add Gangsters (purple version) I don't really like that song although it's gained on me upon every listen. This album to me has felt like Roger's own Made In Heaven - a fitting final album due to the large amount of more reflective and slower stuff. However, Roger's album was #3 in the midweek chart so it should become his first Top 10 solo success. It may inspire him to do another one if successful.

I'd suspect he measures success in sales numbers, not chart positions.

I saw the Manchester show at the weekend, booked via the presale when I bought his album through UMG back in June.
I just got a text today from UMG letting me know Roger Taylor is touring. Thanks for the info...

Outsider peaked #3 in UK chart, so it's RT's first TOP10 solo effort.

The new album is in at number 3 on the UK album chart today. That is fantastic! Is that the highest chart position for a solo album from a member of Queen?? Not necessarily sales, but to get to number 3 is a hell of an achievement.

Not necessarily sales, but to get to number 3 is a hell of an achievement. This seems to happen quite a lot these days. Albums tend to peak early in the charts then drop out just as quickly. Congrats to Rog though. 🙂

I wonder how many copies were sold in compare to Back To The Light. It seems like on instagram it has massive support from (younger) fans, but not too much promotion by RT himself. On the other hands, Brian made an enormous effort with promoting it himself, making special Brian Army t-shirts, special Bri-TV day with online broadcast... and BTTL peaked similar, #2 iirc....

Your definition of promotion obviously misses all the TV and radio interviews and the fact that THERE'S A TOUR!

Your definition of promotion obviously misses all the TV and radio interviews and the fact that THERE'S A TOUR! The days of touring to promote an album are long gone. If anything, you release an album to get some promotion for the tour! Good on Rog for getting a top 3 album, regardless of number of sales. Would love to see the figures compared to Happiness and Electric Fire. I’m sure both outsold Outsider.. When the album was #3 in the mid week chart, I thought it might scrape into the top 10, so it must have sold a steady amount throughout the week, which is nice (The new Yes album went from #8 mid week, to #20) The trend is unquestionable though; older acts have a core fan base who will buy the album immediately. Record sales being what they are these days , that usually secures said older act a very nice chart position in the first week of release

I think the new Stranglers album did the same a few weeks back, number 3 then never heard of again.

I agree that in general, "active" artists will see more income from touring than record sales.
But I don't think that there's much money to be made from a two week tour of the UK for a guy worth north of £70m, and so I perceive that the timing of it (during the week of release) suggests that the two deliberately coincide.

Why are people concerned about sales figures? Surely Roger would love the vanity involved with a hit, but at this point he just wants to feel alive and be out there.
All of his non-Queen ventures are niche stuff and that never stopped him from making more music. It would take a miracle for him to become mainstream anyway, and he probably doesn't want that either.

You’re right. Once he’s paid the venue hire, then the rep company, the band, the hired PA (presume it’s not all Queen Prods kit), catering, travel and accommodation - they won’t be staying at the local Premier Inn there’s not going to be much left from ticket sales, Probably make more on the merch - but that’ll go through a separate company.

Spoiler free Liverpool thoughts!
Great night. Crowd well up for it. No one piling to the bar in the more obscure moments, had a great party vibe.
Support guy Colin Macleod (I kept thinking is his name "Connor McCleod, really???) was really good I thought, and went down well. (He went on at 8 btw, Rog at 9, for those planning..)
Sound generally very good, although I normally dislike the venue, too many hard surfaces so it got shrill sometimes. But ears not ringing too much today.
Naturally the newer material felt unfamiliar, I think the album is a slow burn and it's only been out a week.
Band were excellent, still finding their natural group vibe I think but did a good job. Tina is a nice addition, augmenting a lot of songs, violin and all.
Queen songs, and Rog on drums, naturally got the biggest response (and many phones immediately went up to block the view of course.. actually I just treat other people's phones as my personal 'close up' cam at small gigs nowadays, when they zoom in close on drum solos or whatever). But solo tracks were all well received, some quite energetically.
A really really fun gig, Roger so relaxed and amusing, seemed to be digging it all. Overall couldn't have asked for a better night.*
(*Apart from a few songs I'd have liked to hear, of course..)

It seems there's been a few running order adjustments but I don't see anything that has been added or dropped.

Well that's potentially spoiler-ish in itself, no..? They seem pretty locked into the current setlist now and (though this might have been a half-joke) Roger stated that the band 'didn't exist' until two weeks ago.. so I doubt they've had time to rehearse any deeper cuts. Who knows though?

I think that's a hint that some of the band are late replacements, presumably due to covid / quarantine stuff

That would make sense given the likes of Jason Falloon is nowhere to be seen on this tour.

I am really, really digging this album at the minute. It rewards repeated listens.. maybe because I do not buy albums much nowadays, I'm spending a lot of time with this one. At first I thought maybe it was all too slow and too familiar. But as you get more into it the slow stuff weaves a spell.
Gangsters (Purple) is a smasher. Sounds both retro and modern. Hints of 'Shove It' album!
There is really quite a late Bowie vibe on a few songs, wonder if that's deliberate/conscious?
I've not heard Fun on Earth but I'd say at the minute this is possibly my fave Rog since Strange Frontier.

There is really quite a late Bowie vibe on a few songs, wonder if that's deliberate/conscious? I really do think Bowie’s death profoundly affected Roger. He admitted to essentially writing Journey’s End as a result, and the stuff he’s put out since 2017 has indeed been more reflective – and he had gotten quite reflective on Fun On Earth! Also, I agree – this album is a grower. The more I listen to it the more I discover and love.
