I believe "Lost Opportunity" was recorded after the album was complete, but then again it doesn't really fit among the Innuendo tracks IMO. That's a surprise to me. I'd always considered it an outtake. Would they have made the effort to return to the studio just to record an instrumental B side?

Would have been interesting if Blurred Vision had received more votes than Lost Opportunity (which I like), and A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling, had been on the list.

That was their original plan, yeah, to record some non-album b-sides, likely because Freddie wanted to keep recording but the likelihood of another album coming out in his lifetime was slim. But then the sessions went so well that they went down the album route, until they couldn’t anymore.

I suppose Brian intended the track for BTTL and at some point he jammed with Roger and John, then they liked the result and decided to add it as a b-side.

As we approach 100 voters there's a clear winner in "I Go Crazy", closely followed by "Mad The Swine" and a tie between SWAFIB and "A Human Body". Not so fast...MTS has moved up to only 2 votes behind the frontrunner, and SWAFIB is now in third place. An upset win could happen...

Wot? No 'Lily of the Valley' - Disgraceful Based on the selections, we're discussing non-album b-sides.

Wot? No 'Lily of the Valley' - Disgraceful As specified, original non-album songs only, and no versions (ADRRFMD is a stretch actually).

i think the fact that Queen went from '74-'80 - six years/six LPs without a non-album B-side, just shows how frugal they were with what they wanted out on general release. seems that even back then, they were perfectionists obsessed with quality control and public perception.

Or, maybe they just didn't have the material? I think it has to be said that most of the 70s albums contained at least one "clunker", so if they had to use those weaker tracks for the albums, that might suggest they didn't have anything better going spare.

I agree that the vocals seem almost like a parody, but I don't hear much to appreciate in the music either - I just hear going-through-the-motions comping. The whole thing sounds to me almost as if they got drunk and decided to do a soul tune, but nobody in the band knew what soul was, so they had to go by a description given by a sarcastic detractor of the genre. That's a bit harsh... but funny.
I don't dislike the song as much as you do but I can totally see your point.

Surprised to see "See What a Fool" doing so well. Fun enough live but very by-the-book musically in the studio and featuring Freddie's most mis-judged vocals until Hot Space
I like it very much.
You've got to admit the vocals are quite unique... Ever heard any blues track sung in such a camp way ? I haven't.
Aside from the vocals, nothing very original, it's true, but it showaces in a "natural setting" (so to speak) the early sound of Roger+John+Brian, which I just can't get tired of. Their chemistry was extraordinary -- even more so on the BBC version.

100 voters! 195 votes and... it's a tie! #1 | I Go Crazy / Mad The Swine | 30 | #2 | See What A Fool I've Been | 26 | #3 | A Human Body | 23 | #4 | Hang On In There / Hijack My Heart | 22 |
Last place: Let's keep this going for a while and see where it ends...

A Human Body
Right up there with Drowse as one of Roger's best.
Tied with Mad the Swine. One of my favorite Queen songs of all time!

Did anyone ever talk about why the vocals are like that? My pet theory is that at some point someone would have said Freddie didn't have what it takes to sing the blues, and he decided to take the piss out of that take then.

I chose I Go Crazy… but i really like A Human Body, Soul Brother and Hang On In There too (always thought that Chinese Torture followed by Hang On In There would have made a great opening for The Miracle album!)

You could think that, yeah!
But he wrote some master pieces too Bohemian Rhapsody, Somebody To Love, Seven Seas Of Rhye, It´s a Hard Life... In the end, for me, his worst songs are the experimental ones...

I love all those little vaudeville type songs. They're just a bit of fun, and given the 'brass band' in Seaside Rendezvous was created by them using their voices, that's a pretty impressive track.

Even knowing that...It´s not enough to consider that song good. Yes a lot of efforts on it but...In the end, for me, an useless song. The most important thing is the song itself...Not the way of doing it...

Mostly here not to lose rights. Nice to know. To be honest a lot of the chat even here is a bit far down the rabbithole for me. I feel like there are a lot of people who have been here & other forums a long time and it's not always easy not to tread on toes. Which I don't want to do. Unless people step to Mad The Swine obviously.

Any other answer is just wrong. Not a good look for a first post on a forum. It was very much tongue in cheek which should have been reasonably clear from the song choice and full quote. I do like Mad The Swine though. It has a certain catchiness.
