I like the discs being stored in those photo-sleeves with inner-sleeves. But damn, the colors they chose for the vinyl... Not very classy in my opinion. I would've preferred just regular black vinyl. Not so sure about the redesigned slipcase either. I'll probably buy it though.

I have all 3 on vinyl. Looking at the QueenOnline store, it will cost me $188US, which is about $240 Canadian. Wow, expensive. Might have to pass on this one.

I actually ended up ordering from FNAC directly to Canada and it saved me $100. Thanks for the heads up.

Hard pass, of course. Halve the price and leave out the two Frisbees at the back and....no, still no.

Despite my pre-order of this item, I really wish they’d re-visit GH3 and remove the solo and remixed stuff. This could have been an opportunity, but alas.

Can’t believe there are still people buying this rubbish time after time! I guess it could have appeal as a collectable, for those that, er, collect. I haven't got a record player, or space to put it, so even if I had an interest it would be impractical. Rather ironic they're tagging onto the Platinum Jubilee when they couldn't be arsed to do anything for their own 'Golden' anniversary.

Interesting that none of the images on the picture sleeves are from before 1979.
Okay maybe not interesting in the slightest, but something I noticed.

The marketing team of EMI is doing their job, because they are targeting, the tour, the momentum of general public, the high demand for vinyl and new - old collectors.
I am a huge collector, but I'm not going to buy it. I have all the originals, first copies etc, this is a different era, sell multicopies to old collectors - fans, while the whole thing is general aiming the new fans and casual fans who only buying GH, by giving a "special edition and its products".
If they were clever enough they would have added a seventh disc with the rest top 10-40 hits, so they could have the colors of the rainbow.
I am waiting to see, what they are going to do with the miracle...

Funy enough is that when Platimum was suggested to be released in 2001, Roger didn't want to be released. By 2003 Roger wanted to break their contract with Emi records. The rest is history.

Any more details on this? Roger and probably Brian like many other artist in EMI during 00s were not satisfied, EMI had big financial troubles and everything had an effect on artists and their music work. Roger was not happy and suggested to leave the record company.

Despite the fact that it's another re-release of the Greatest Hits albums, I do have to say the outer packaging looks very nice. I like the redesign of the outer box. It's still not quite as nice as the original; but it's much better than the 40th anniversary redesign. I also like the photo covers they gave for each record. And putting the single covers on the sleeves is a nice touch. And it's always nice to get a nice large book of color photos.
But there's two things about the set I don't like. First, it appears that they aren't including any text that talks about the songs. I mean, it exists. They just would have had to reproduce it for the new release. Heck, even if they included the release date for each single and where it charted highest would be nice. But, what I really don't like is the colored vinyl. I do enjoy colored vinyl where appropriate. But it almost seems two different teams came up with the outer packaging and the vinyl. The outer box especially makes the set look regal and important. Then the colors they chose for the vinyl seem to cheapen that. I think it would have been better to go with black vinyl or, if they had to go with color, silver to match the box and/or gold. But that's just my two cents.
As an aside, it wouldn't shock me to see them announce a release of a Hot Space picture disc in a week or so in a limited run of 1,982 copies, if the last few 40th anniversaries of the albums are anything to go by.

The irony is that coloured vinyl is generally held to give less sound quality and longevity.

€88,- pre-order price on Amazon.fr. That's slightly more than half the price of what's being asked for it on the official store...

The irony is that coloured vinyl is generally held to give less sound quality and longevity. That was true of coloured vinyl in the 80's and especially the 70's. But the technology today has improved that, if a record is pressed on black vinyl and coloured vinyl from the same master and stamper at the same plant, you shouldn't hear any negligible difference in the sound quality. The exceptions to this could be clear vinyl, since very few additives can be added that won't affect the opacity, and vinyl that glows in the dark, due to the materials added to make that happen. And while today's coloured vinyl will hold up better than their 70's and 80's counterparts, black vinyl will outlast coloured, mainly due to the black carbon making the record more rigid. However, old or new, as long as the vinyl is taken care of, it should last beyond a lifetime. As an aside, picture discs made today are a league ahead of those manufactured in the 70's and 80's too. However, even with that, those are still more about the collectability than sound quality.

Any more details on this? I would like to add that there is an interview were Roger said about Platinum collection was to be sold (Germany) like box of trixs in 1992 via TV advert. Then he said he was against the release and he was unsatisfied with Emi almost a year or two after renewed their contract. I couldn't find it on Google since all the results revolt around the movie...

I knew this release would come one day... and then Brian and Roger complain about waisting material and how important it is to reduce the carbon footprint...
All blah blah when the very same stuff gets re-released a zillon times! I mean it's nothing rare - it's the same stuff that was numerous times re-released in the last 10 years + GH3 which has a terrible tracklist.
It's clearly one rule for them and one for us. There is something clearly going wrong with Queenproductions now...

There is something clearly going wrong with Queenproductions now... GH 1-3 & Platinum is part of their back catalogue, these compilations are great sellers along with some studio albums and live videos. Queen have a very specific contract, so they can't avoid some things. However they suggest some products. For example at BBC was Queen idea the interviews was record company's... Record companies are gaining money via tours, merchandise etc, so we have some ridiculous and overpriced products. 70s are long gone...
