This pisses me off. Yet again we have to buy stuff we don't want (vinyl) to get stuff that we do, thus inflating the cost. Why can't this be like the other two releases, with a 2CD version or a box set? I'm wondering if it would actually be cheaper to buy the Jap 2CD set, than a box set full of useless (to me) tat. Yeah, I can’t lie, this is a disappointing return to form after the last few Brian/Queen releases have actually released the goodies we really want in affordable two-disc editions.

- the 2-CD version (as above, plus the 23-track "Star Fleet - The Complete Sessions") is exclusive to Japan - the box set (2 CDs as above, plus red LP and 7" black vinyl) is available worldwide; there is no domestic Japanese version of this set, so Japanese customers will have to get imports This pisses me off. Yet again we have to buy stuff we don't want (vinyl) to get stuff that we do, thus inflating the cost. Why can't this be like the other two releases, with a 2CD version or a box set? I'm wondering if it would actually be cheaper to buy the Jap 2CD set, than a box set full of useless (to me) tat I'm guessing it's more economical from a production point of view to offer one standard release format (box set) for most of the world. Also, maybe the sales figures of the 2-CD sets weren't great, OR they were a bit too popular and ate into the sales of the more expensive (and perhaps more profitable) box sets? It's hard to say what will be cheaper. The 2-CD set is 3600 JPY before tax, and I don't know how much shipping is to the UK but I think that will be cheaper than the box set if they're priced close to the other two previous sets.

I am Japanese and I rather wanted a box set localized for Japan 🥲.
I just need to learn, but more than half of Japanese people, including me, cannot understand English without a translator. Miracle Box was also released for the Japanese market, which helped.

I GUARANTEE that it's less environmental to produce a few thousand 12" coasters and the consequential packaging, and effectively blackmailing people into paying for it - especially as there's a production run of the 2CD in isolation anyway. I guess the counter - argument is that the most environmental format is downloading, plus of course "you don't have to buy it"... On price, the cheaper option isn't particularly a concern - finding a navigable Japanese website that will ship internationally was always the challenge! I managed it a couple of times in the past for a couple of DVDs I think, via HMV.co.jp

It's like going into a pub and not being able to buy a pint without having a three-course meal. I was hoping Amazon.co.jp might ship it to the UK, but if the cost isn't going to be that much cheaper than the box set, then I might just as well have the bloody box set, and get it quicker.

The filthy lucre demon strikes again! Hope Sir Bri releases a 2 CD issue as before. Amazon shipped RT Outsider from Japan to the UK, hopefully they do the same for this.

On price, the cheaper option isn't particularly a concern - finding a navigable Japanese website that will ship internationally was always the challenge! I managed it a couple of times in the past for a couple of DVDs I think, via HMV.co.jp I would recommend www.cdjapan.co.jp/ which is designed for overseas customers buying Japanese media. They've been around for ages and it's always smooth from start to finish. They are a store with their own stock/warehouse, so you're not paying extra fees to have them do the shopping for you (although they do offer this proxy shopping service for some items). They have a range of shipping options, including cheaper ones through Japan Post, although there are still some restrictions for parts of the world due to flight shortages. Amazon.co.jp is decent when you login from English-speaking countries, although the product descriptions are in Japanese. This can be tricky if there are multiple, similar editions of the same release. Shipping is courier only but you pay the whole cost upfront so don't have to deal with DHL hitting you up for more money before they deliver. A bit of money can also be refunded automatically by Amazon.co.jp if they overestimated the import fees. And as I mentioned earlier, you can see if Amazon UK will have the Japanese editions. The option may appear a few days after the domestic editions show up first. I just checked and saw that they have Japanese SHM-CDs of Roger's Outsider and Outsider Live sold and shipped by Amazon UK. The price is high (probably very similar to importing from Amazon Japan), but at least potential returns are easy. In Canada, you can buy the Japanese Another World SHM-CD deluxe edition sold/shipped by Amazon for $26, which is a dollar cheaper than the North American version! I also saw the Japanese edition of Outsider for a bit over $20 a while ago.

Although you said it's more about the principle and not the money, you can likely find someone willing to buy the vinyl off you since the red vinyl and 7" will be box set exclusives. Not sure if anyone is excited about the badge though!

Not the time or the place - and don't get me wrong I'm really excited for this Star Fleet release - but PLEASE lets have a live box set next.
Brixton, fully unedited (even the cringy bit between Love Token and Headlong), remixed in 5.1 AND at least some Albert Hall 98 footage.
Maybe the Barcelona TV footage, GnR support footage of South America, also maybe there's some decent multitrack audio only waiting to be mixed and released??

Something that I don't get:
- Son Of Star Fleet is a 7" exclusive? I can't find it in the CD contents
- The original Mini LP running order is being altered? (by placing the single version of SF as the first track instead of the original version AND placing the original -longer- version at the end)
If any or both of these were right, then it would be odd... still, what a wonderful and welcome release this is going to be!

Son Of Star Fleet is an 7" exclusive? I can't find it in the CD contents Eugh. Also I’m still not seeing the original mixes in there anywhere - unless they’re included as part of the sessions disc, but in that case “Bluesbreaker” appears to be missing.

Bluesbreaker was the title of three different jams stitched together, so I imagine the jams after Let Me Out (can’t recall their titles at the moment) are what eventually made up Bluesbreaker. So it’s not like Brian said, “Okay, Bluesbreaker, Take 1,” and off they went, which is probably why they’re not labeled as such.

My worry with this is that the 29 extra tracks might only be a minute or two long, like the snippets of Business on the AW reissue. They certainly can't be full tracks otherwise they wouldn't all fit on one CD.

If I do end up having to import the two-disc, at least it’ll give me an excuse to finally pick up the Japanese edition of Outsider!

Crazy amount of content from the least interesting album, haha. Seriously, I would’ve killed for some work in progress demos or session extracts from Back to the Light or Another World. The scraps we got on Another World were fine but hardly essential, and while I’m sure the Star Fleet sessions are also probably fairly inessential (seems to depend on how much you dig blues jams), at least they’re gonna be out there, so I’ll take what I can get!

About 5 hours ago, Brian May shared the 'Star Fleet Sessions' box set on his Instagram profile: from what we could see in the video, the limited edition box set obviously contains all new mixes of the entire 2-days sessions (taken from the original multitracks recordings) and two CDs. The first one (Star Fleet Project + Beyond) includes the entire remastered album and six bonus tracks, while the second (The Complete Star Fleet Sessions) contains 78 minutes of previously-unreleased music. There are also two vinyls (a red 33rpm and a black 7", which probably contains the single version of 'Star Fleet' released in 1983), a 32 page book, the Star Fleet Badge and a poster.
The official release announcement will be today June 1st, 2023 at 2pm British Summer Time.

A long-awaited reissue for Brian May + Friends' Star Fleet Project mini-album has been confirmed. Originally released as a three song collection in 1983, the 40th anniversary edition will arrive on July 14, and will include every track recorded during the original sessions.“We are going to give you everything," says Brian May. "Every take of every song. The things that went wrong, the laughing, the finding new things to do. But it won’t be just a remaster – we’ve rescued everything from the original multitracks, every detail magnificently remixed, and more! You’ll hear every take from the historic 1983 sessions plus fragments of conversations, out-takes and musical experimentation." www.loudersound.com/news/brian-may-and-friends-star-fleet-project-box-set

Fuck it. I'm not buying vinyl I don't want just to get a CD of 20 second clips of twiddly jams. If they'd made complete alternate versions it might have been different but I just can't justify the purchase when I'll probably only listen to them once.
If I can't get the Jap import for a reasonable price I'll just download it from iTunes.
Sorry, Brian, but any joyful anticipation of this release has turned to bitter disappointment at the available formats. To quote a Queen lyric: "It's a rip off..." 😠

Self-quote: "Son Of Star Fleet is a 7" exclusive? I can't find it in the CD contents" The only b-side of the whole project and it's not included at all within the 2CD set. They always have to fail with something. I will probably go for the japanese 2CD set. I don't need the vinyls, although the badge is essential in my life.
