For football football, Arsenal (no idea why, they've been terrible since I've become a fan); for American football, the Philadelphia Eagles (home team!); for American soccer, the Philadelphia Union (DOOP).

For US Football - bit of background before someone accuses me of glory-hunting. I'd seen some US football back in 1976? when the Patriots played the Raiders in the playoffs (was on UK ITV World Of Sport - highlights only). Then in 1982, when CH4 launched, a classic comedy "Cheers" was broadcast. i kinda fell in love with Boston from the first episode. Of course, being Boston, I latched onto the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots. 18 years of sh*t later and finally the Patriots start winning things. It's all over now though - Brady gone, Gronk gone (both to Tampa) - but i'll always have 2001 - 2018 to look back on and smile. As for your Eagles, my son - from a very young age got into US sport and chose the Eagles as his team, and they finally won their first SB by beating (my) Patriots.

Partick Thistle, but for the first time I'm actually torn on this (not over another club, though).
Our season has just ended, with Thistle being bottom of the Scottish Championship. A vote between all clubs took place, with the consensus being to end the season. The problem is - Thistle were only a point from safety with a game in hand (against a team we've beaten every time this season).
One vote swung the whole thing, and it was Dundee's. Dundee had originally voted against ending the season, but retracted the vote.
The reason the majority wanted the season ended was so that money could be released early to clubs, based on their standings.
Thistle had a legal right to challenge Dundee's retraction but, as it would have delayed money to the other clubs, they decided to accept relegation. We're now in the 3rd tier of Scottish football, when two seasons ago we were a Premiership side.
I'm hurt and angry, firstly by the ending of the season and the relegation, but also because we seemed to take it lying down. We are seen to be "doing the right thing" by the other clubs, who cared not a jot about us when they decided to relegate us early.
I know we're shite. But now we're whipping boys too, with no fight (as I see it).
I don't know how I can go back now, because I want them to stand up for themselves and stop being yes men to the bigger clubs.
I was also a season ticket holder, with six games left on my ticket. It's not much, but it's a £120 loss to me. Thistle have offered a partial refund, but have also tugged on the heart-strings by saying that if everyone took their refund, the club would be down £80k. Naturally, I haven't asked for a refund, but I'm fuming.
I love them, but right now I'm ****ing raging at them for being so accepting.
Am I in the wrong here?

Middlesbrough. God help me.. Do you remember Jan Aage Fjørtoft? He used to play for Middlesbrough and his birth place is not far away from me I do indeed, we finished the season when he came as Division One champions. He was good for The Boro, I think he scored about 10 goals for us. He played alongside Juninho, and was sold to Sheffield after Ravanelli arrived at the Boro. Really good Centre Forward.

Dunfermline Athletic supporter here. Grew up just outside of Dunfermline, so my family and I have always supported them. I now live in Canada and also support Vancouver Whitecaps.
Man, I miss football.

I've been trying to follow as much as I can from here in Canada. It seems another shambles from Scottish football. Unfortunately, with this kind of vote (from what I could tell), that mostly everyone would vote to help themselves. I feel sorry for Partick, especially since it's not fair since not every team played the same amount of games. Partick Thistle, but for the first time I'm actually torn on this (not over another club, though). Our season has just ended, with Thistle being bottom of the Scottish Championship. i'd like to share one of the worst - but typical lifetime experiences of being a Birmingham City Fan.
a little background: let's start with how Birmingham City acclimatise their fans / condition them for low expectations.
it's early 70s - my uncle takes me to the Albion every home game - i particularly enjoyed a 4-3 win over man Utd. West Brom lined up with Wile, Asa Hartford, Tony Brown and Jeff Astle. the United team that day in Spring 1971 included; Stepney, Sadler, Crerand, Morgan, Kidd. Charlton and Best - yes the George Best! Despite seeing some great games with my uncle, i opted for Birmingham City as my team.
Birmingham City: Bob Latchford, Bob Hatton and Trevor Francis - a young football fan's dream! thing is Blues in the 70s were great - but every other team was great (or greater still). Latchford sold - for a record fee to Everton, Few years later, Francis sold to Forest - first ever £1m football transfer. after that it was all downhill.
The 80s arrived, we had a team of battlers - Pat van den Hauwe, Hopkins, Coton, Julian Dicks and Mark Dennis. legends all. However, legends came and went - usually to bigger clubs, and Blues usually ended up in the toilet. January 1986 - a humiliating loss to non-league Altrincham in the FA Cup.
Blues don't do things by halves, oh no. Not content with one non-league humiliation, Birmingham City had to go and seek out another - again another loss at home to Kidderminster Harriers 1-2, again in January (this time 1994). However, the utter humiliation of being a bLues fan for me took place one year earlier.
Easter Monday (12 April) 1993 - Back From The Dead My next-door neighbour and i usually traveled to Blues home games together. At a bit of a bank holiday loose end i asked him if he fancied the game - but he had some D-I-Y to finish (a wise decision as it turns out). i drove to the game myself.
The game itself. nothing to report really. 26 minutes to go and Blues are coasting 4-1. game's in the bag. guy stoof next to me on the Spion Kop said, "yeah, we've got this - peace of cake", my reply: "have you been a Blues fan long? we'll probably scrape a draw, here" (i was joking of course).
Anyhow, 26 minutes left, and Swindon player-manager Glenn Hoddle changes tactics and his own playing position on the field. Blues manager, Terry Cooper was the only one in the stadium who to be unaware of Hoddle's changes. goal after goal rattles in and Birmingham were unbelievably lucky to only lose 4-6. I kid you not.
Guys, i doubt many have ever suffered like this in the support of their club. Here, have a laugh on me - it's free.

Wow, that's awful lol. I thought some of our results were bad. I remember being at a match, not too long ago actually, that was 0-0 until the 87th minute, when we took the lead. At last, a win. No...we still lost 2-1.

No...we still lost 2-1. but then rarely (oh so very rarely) i got to witness stuff like this... the stuff that "drags you back to the Stadium of Doom next time: two weeks before Christmas, 1997. Man City take the lead in the final minute of normal time. St Andrews empties - like Moses had just parted the Red Sea. In the 7+ minutes of time added on Blues score twice for a great win. Blues' club song is called Keep Right On Til The End Of The Road - never was it more apt. We were among the few who stayed - we always do, rain or shine (rain mainly). then, in our first spell in the Prem we managed to do the double over the Villa - these were great games to watch, for wholly different reasons. watch the "Enkelman Special

Olympique de Marseille here.
The golden years were at the end of the 80ies-beginning of 90ies. 5 French championships between 1988 and 1993, a lost champions league final against Red Star Belgrade in 1991, a win in 1993 against AC Milan and then after a bribery scandal, we spent two seasons in second tier between 1994 and 1996. Since 1996, ups and downs, we didn't win anything (several times 2nd of the league, 2 lost Europa Leagues finals in 1999 and 2004) until 2010 where we won the championship and league cup. Since 2010, it is still ups and downs, some terrible seasons and some sunshines like Bielsa season or Europa League final againt Atletico Madrid (0-3). This year, we had a new coach Andre Villas Boas (most English people know him, I guess) and he was doing pretty good, we were second of the league and on the way to the first Champions League since 2012 but now we don't know what will be our future. The club has a lot of debts and I think it was nearly a case of survival to get the Champions League this year.
About the Birmingham-Swindon story, I have a similar one. Marseille-Montpellier in 1999. Montpellier scored 4 times, score was 4-0 at half time. Many people left the stadium during the break. They missed one of the most fabulous moments in Marseille history. Marseille scored 5 times (!!!) in second half and won the match 5-4 with a last minute penalty kick by Laurent Blanc.

Does everyone stick to "their" team, or do you have favourites from other countries too?
As I said, I'm a Thistle man but have been an Arsenal fan for just as long. I also like Barcelona, Inter Milan and, oddly, Werder Bremen.
What about international sides? For obvious reasons, Scotland are my first love. But I also look out for Brazil and strangely have a soft spot for San Marino.

Just nosing around and found this interesting thread . My team is West Ham because I grew up round the corner to their original home . I used to hear the crowd singing ‘I’m forever blowing bubbles ‘ and witness the fights with the crowd (skin heads in DM boots ) and the police when they came crashing down my street .
Now I have my youngest daughter into football , she is 12 . Her team were a disaster this season losing all their games .
Standing watching in the freezing cold and rain actually became quite enjoyable .

Sorry, mates - when I see the word football - I think American. I am a diehard Cleveland Browns fan. Do not bash me for this, I have suffered enough over the last 40 years. Currently we are 4-1 and that is a huge accomplishment!! Now, my soccer team is the Columbus Crew.

I've switched allegiance from Arsenal to Hearts of Midlothian (being of Scottish descent, it was only a matter of time). I'm still a Philly Union fan – right now they're the best sports team in Philly!

YOU DON'T SWITCH TEAMS m.youtube.com/watch?v=Fvjk47UORFs1:00 onwards. That's how we see people that change teams. Do people switch from Giants to Jets? Cubs to white sox?

Katy - We are in opposite parts of the state - so it's understandable. The Bengals can beat up on any other team in the AFC North with my blessing. I hope Joe makes it through the season without getting hurt.

I never thought of it like that – if I all of a sudden switched from the Phillies to the Pirates (ugh) and said “well at least they’re both Pennsylvania teams” I would be rightly ridiculed! And the Phillies were rotten this year, but I’m still a Phillies fan and will watch them lose again next year. I take it back – Arsenal, despite their faults, is still my team. Hearts seems good too.

Cleveland's "new dawn" seems to start over every year...while Cinci? they're were my Patriots were in 1982. Cinci's best shot will be when Big Ben retires at Pittsburgh - then it'll be just the small matter of beating Mayfield and Jackson every year.

Brentford fan here!!! Have had a season ticket for about 5 years now but been attending since my first game in 2008 when Everton (mums team) lost to the bees at Griffin Park on penalties. As much as I love my team they can be the bane of my existence at times but I'd say most people can say the same for their own clubs too
