Shakespeare's Sister (The Smiths) Has the same chord progression and sounds eerily similar to Ride The Wild Wind. i've moved this here for discussion, as it doesn't fit in the "other bands" board. as it's the Queen song that came second. not too sure about the similarities though...needs a second listen.

1) I was wrong about Hammer to fall. It was not For those about rock we salute you but Touch to Much. Brian borrowed riff for the bridge on Hammer to fall. 2) I am not sure but I think that Father to Son has parts or modified ideas of Led Zeppelin's What is and what should never be after 3:00 min m.youtube.com/watch?v=jrqMdja4eYs3)Morden times rock n roll - David Bowie Hang onto yourself 4)The end of Hang on in there - Pour some sugar on me Def Leppard

I read that the Sparks' song "This Town ain't big enough for the both of us" could have been an inspiration to do "Bohemian Rhapsody". I know Roger left no good words on the Sparks in an interview many moons ago.

i sort of remember that TV series - it was filmed in a place called Avebury. The standing stones comprise dof two stone circles linked by an "avenue" of stones approx 1km long. very mystical place - there's also a few "hillside white horse carvings" nearby. whenever i'm in Wiltshire, i like to stop and have a look. so much better to look at that Stonehenge. added to top list

I just saw the avenue it's very mystical beautiful. It creates a strange and good feeling. I really want to visit this Place. Thanks for the info!

Sorry for the tangent, but I visited Avebury on a school trip about seventeen, eighteen years ago (we went to Stonehenge earlier - between the motorway nearby and the touristy exploitation that was seriousy disappointing, even if the monument itself is mighty impressive), and it's the one thing from the entire trip that made a lasting impression on me. Not just Avebury itself, which I too thought had a very special vibe, but I really liked the surroundings - a very beautiful part of England in an understated, non-flashy sort of way!

Sweet - Action (2:22) Queen - Khashoggi's Ship (2:00) Can't really see the similarly if I'm honest, but I wish these special versions for TOTP could be made available without the audience noise. I hadn't heard that superior version of Action before (well, not for 45 years!) and it would be great to have a good quality download of the original re-recording. Same goes for the TOTP version of Now I'm Here.

In the lap of the God's has the intro inspired by Saint-Saëns - Aquarium (carnival of the animals).
Liar guitar solo is inspired or maybe a tribute to Jimmy Hendrix Stone Free guitar solo.

This one popped up somewhere (here?) and is quite interesting. Both Radio Gaga and A Kind of Magic (original version)-esque.
Impossible to know if it was a direct influence as it was probably an obscure disco song at the time and the chord progression is fairly common. Perhaps Freddie (who reworked Gaga) heard Rog's demo and decided to remix it to ape the sound he'd heard in a nightclub somewhere. Pure speculation of course.
edit - if anything it's a bit "I Cry For You" as well, especially the remix.

I don't think we can say all of the Queen songs inspired by various artists.

I have forgot Under pressure drum playing during the climax of "Can't we give ourselves one more chance Why can't we give love that one more chance Why can't we give love, give love" is identical with with the drum playing by Keith Moon on Who baba o' Riley (as Brian said about under pressure writing, he had a Who style riff and found a way to the song).

In my opinion some of the songs inspired by other artists but I don't think all of the songs inspired by other artists. Queen were a clever and creative band, they didn't inspire all of their tracks from other artists. But yes some of the tracks have some small similarity to other artists songs but that doesn't mean they inspired them from other artists

But yes some of the tracks have some small similarity to other artists songs but that doesn't mean they inspired them from other artists that would be why the thread title is "Inspired By" and not Inspired By. anything that came before can be an influence - no matter how great/small that influence is. it may also be from a conscious/subconscious recollection. the point of the thread is to flag up those that are very close to other songs in many ways and those that maybe only have a small similarity. the only thing that surprises me about this thread (so far) is that no earlier Queen song has (as yet) been mentioned as a potential influence on a later Queen song. Believe me, there are a few...maybe the discussion will develop in that direction at some point.

My Baby Does Me was a copy of a Sade song but I can't remember which. Good thread! Edit: Might have been 'Siempre Hay Esperanza' but to be honest all Sade songs sound like that. youtu.be/6PIY4GB1m94

MB: "(Let Me In) Your Heart Again - Rock 'n' Roll With Me - David Bowie (parts of vocal melody)" Bowie's song is an exact copy of Dylan's 'Oh Sister'. My observation from 'the old days' was that Vultan's Theme was Black Beauty mixed with the intro to this: soundcloud.com/the-quick/18-madchen-mania-the-quick

Sorry, Brenski but I disagree with a lot of the OP.
For example.
One Vision and Highway to Hell are staccato chord riffs in the same key, but the sequence and rhythm are completely different. You could just as well make a case for the bass riff in Papa Was a Rolling Stone or the verse riff in Fight For Your Right.
