It has similar riff, Brian took it further and made his own. Interesting enough is that Brian played it in his home session during recording another world. m.youtube.com/watch?v=RezMwflxwwA

this one is just a "general feel" - rather than any specific song elements You're My Best Friend - Love Is All - Roger Glover & Ronnie Dio

On the QOL forum there was an old thread about Queen plagiarizing themselves, particularly during the Works era.
I remember another member insisting that It's a Hard Life was basically Play The Game in a different key.

Man On The Prowl is basically a 'Crazy Litlle Thing Called Love 2' Yes they were even going to release it as a 5th single from the Works, part of me will always wonder if it could've been a hit. For me It's A Hard Life is closer to Bo Rhap, being in the same key and Brian even said he wanted the IHAL solo to be similar to BR. Tear It Up to sounds a bit like the TYMD riff played over the WWRY beat.

I don't think I can hear any resemblance. "Our House" has an uptempo almost dance-style bassline which is absent from "Radio Ga Ga". Also, "Radio Ga Ga" has a pretty straightforward F-major harmony, whereas the harmony behind "Our House" is more complex than in the average pop song. Even if there are similarities between (parts of) the basslines, they are completely hidden to me due to the obvious differences between the songs. I wouldn't say the similarities (if they are there) justify the phrase "inspired by" with the "suggestive" quotation marks.

ABTD = Rapper's Delight/Chic IWTBF = Suddenly Last Summer RGG = Our House I Was Born To Love You = Gloria by Laura Brannigan Invisible Man = Ghostbusters/I Need A New Drug Doesn't need to be the same tempo/beat, entire riff, etc. Just because it passed through clearance doesn't mean they weren't "inspired by". I hear it. Pretty obvious, actually.

We Will Rock You has the similar beats to Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man from 1942. As is seen/heard here.

those last two don't really count. similar in "name only" should be an entirely different thread. this thread is all about the songs and their structures, chord progressions, melodies etc.

I don't agree I'm hearing several similarities in the melodies as well. And I really think these two songs heavily inspired Freddie on writing his songs.

I've known the songs for ages and only noticed the tempo and drum beats similarities when a dj played the two songs one after the other on those public street radio broadcasts. I even though it was a TATDOOL extended version, until Elton started singing!

I know Aretha Franklin has often been cited as an influence on Somebody to Love, but the similarities of these parts were specifically pointed out by Twitter user kaokao07352056 (videos cued up to relevant parts):
Aretha Franklin's What a Friend We Have in Jesus (3m 27s)

I'm glad this thread is still here! I've got another on for the pile.
One by Three Dog Night and Killer Queen. See if you can tell which part I'm talking about.

The line "On and on" in Show Must Go On has always reminded me of the chorus of Stephen Bishop's On and On:

Funny, how I never caught the relation to Suddenly Last Summer... mostly the sound they must have liked and brightened up. Instead of moodiness, positivity....and IWTBF which also got pretty ripped off for MADNESS... pretty funny

This always reminds me of the end of March of The Black Queen, by the way if you have never heard of Renaissance I highly recommend listening to 'Ashes Are Burning' album, its amazing.

I've also long contended that Machines (Back To Humans) is an exact copy of Machines by Sailor from their 1978 Hideaway album but can never find it on youtube to link it. Whoop! Finally. This should push it into the Definitely Maybes pile

This should push it into the Definitely Maybes pile I think 'exact copy' is pushing it a bit. In fact, I can barely hear any resemblance at all, other than the word 'machines'. 😄

It was in the 'Borderline/Small Parts' list, so I guess the word in the title counts! 🤔
