A couple of days ago it was announced that Justin Shirley-Smith will be attending the Freddie Mercury b-day party this year and "...will be bringing with him some multi-tracks from Queen’s 1973 debut album for fans to experience at the mixing desk in the Mountain Studios room." So they've been playing with the multis? Dare I even dream of a new mix or even, heaven forbid, a surround sound mix of the album? nah. Of course not. More likely they've been making a frankenstien demo.

Didn't they previously do the same trick with some Innuendo tracks?
... that's the non-boxed Innuendo...

I doubt it. Roger has spoken out against the release of this recording.

A new "version" of Queen I appeared on Spotify, using placeholder tracks
Now there are three versions:
1. Queen (2011 Remaster) 2. Queen (Deluxe Edition 2011 Remaster) 3. Queen (Deluxe Remastered Version)
Here's the Spotify link:

I've never even seen the one listed as '(Deluxe Edition 2011 Remaster)' before. Sadly, it seems to me that we're just facing yet another 2011 remaster rehash.

After a checkup I can say confidently that the North American version of Queen I is just made available for other parts of the world; with other words nothing new nor extraordinary.

So, what's even 'deluxe' about this version? I know people have said it doesn't work like this, but it seems like a piss-take copyrights preservation release to me.

Deluxe just means it has the bonus tracks like the De Lane demos and Mad The Swine.

Queen is an absolute gem. 4 young musicians making their bones after two or three years of trying incredibly hard to get noticed. 4 burgeoning talents straining at the bit for an opportunity to give vent to their talents. The album sits nicely as the baby of their three children, with Queen II being the feisty teenager and Sheer Heart Attack the much more mature adult. Queen was the nucleus of 3 years of utterly superb live Rock & Roll performances showing a band hungry and dangerous.
Sadly, the hunger for chart success would then get in the way and the punch of Queen the the next two albums would never be present again.

Sadly, the hunger for chart success would then get in the way and the punch of Queen the the next two albums would never be present again. I definitely think that the turning point for Queen's sound was News Of The World. A Night At The Opera was Queen adding a vaudeville-esque flavour to their existing sound, and A Day At The Races intentionally followed a similar style. Those albums definitely share a lot of DNA with Sheer Heart Attack. Around News Of The World, the punk rock sound had been getting more and more popular with youth, making Queen's sound more and more dated by the day. Queen were VERY self-conscious about this, as you can see in pretty much every interview at the time. They stripped back on the harmonies for NOTW, wanting a "rawer" sound as they say. Jazz stripped it down even further, and The Game's minimalistic mega-hits with Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Another One Bites The Dust set it in stone. Let's be real, there's no way Crazy Little Thing Called Love took as much time and effort as a song like The March Of The Black Queen, but which paid the bills? You can see Freddie's lyrics get less artful and more libido driven in this time period. (Get Down, Make Love, Don't Stop Me Now Body Language, etc.) Brian and Roger notably disliked Don't Stop Me Now because it represented a turn in Freddie's life that they didn't approve of (which ended up being the cause of his death.) You can hear Brian's disdain when talking about Freddie's "pop-side." When Freddie shaved his moustache for the I Want To Break Free video, Jim Jenkins joked that, "We've got our old Fred back. You might start writing some decent songs again." I still love most of Queen's music after the first 5 albums, but there's just an intelligence and hungry spirit that was lost as they gained more commercial success.

SHA is my favourite and QII my 2nd favourite of their albums. Pure masterpieces that would never be surpassed nor even equaled.

Yes NotW was the first turning point, but Queen seemed to me to be returning somewhat to the lush Queen no-synth sound with Jazz.
... But Queen wanted a more focused concise album for the Game. Too bad they did not release The Game as a double LP album with a wider spectrum of sounds. Instead Queen later went half-hog onto the Disco fad three years too late with Shit Space ...

I love this album, whenever you play it, it always feels fresh.. I agree it could do with a remaster and re released, I just wish they had included See what a fool I’ve been and of course Hangman, I would have dropped the instrumental of seven seas, and possibly Jesus, for me the album would go 1. Keep Yourself Alive 2. Doin Alright 3. Great King Rat 4. Mad The Swine 5. My Fairy King 6. Liar 7. The Night Comes Down 8. Modern Times Rock N Roll 9 . Son & Daughter 10. Hangman 11. See What A Fool I’ve Been

Since nothing has been announced for the Queen I anniversary, do you think they can do something with the Jazz album? This year is its 45th anniversary

Why on earth would we still tie ourselves to anniversaries to drive expectancy???
The Jazz 40th anniversary was marked with a sixpence. The Miracle Deluxe edition was out for the 33th anniversary.
They'll release whatever they want whenever it suits them. Accept it.

I believe SWAFIB wasn't recorded until the QII sessions, which took place in Aug. 1973, after Queen's 1st album was released. Ted

Why on earth would we still tie ourselves to anniversaries to drive expectancy??? To establish unreasonable hope that ultimately becomes unfettered disappointment ... There's enough disappointment occurring naturally in the world, no need to cultivate any more. I understand that it's natural to speculate, and that's partly what this forum is about. I just feel that it went too far with the Miracle reissue, in terms of people (probably including me) relentlessly announcing their latest guess at the date that *something* would happen, based on no knowledge whatsoever, filling up page after page of a thread with no redeeming feature. So please forgive me for being loathe to sit through more of that for a release that hasn't even been announced as a possibility... Maybe we can have a dedicated "uninformed release speculation" thread, where we can all go to exorcise our "I think X will be released/announced on DD/mm/yy" demons.
