youtu.be/LIn6sdBKSzkPlease excuse me if this thread is already out there? Cool Cat has always been one of my least favourite Queen tracks, but lately I have been amazed to hear it on the radio, including Planet Rock here in the UK. I believe thus must be due to this advertisement for Amazon Prime. I have been a Queen fan since my teens, late 70s and remember well the bad press for Hot Space even leading Freddie to comment onstage. However, it seems younger people who didn’t grow up with the perception of Queen as a hard rock band seem to simply accept the album. I’ve always been pretty open minded about Hot Space, these things are of course subjective but I do like some of the songs, particularly on side 2. This is regarded as a less successful Queen album, but putting things into perspective many other bands would be very happy with the volume of sales. I guess at the time it was being compared to the level of sales of its predecessor The Game. Just a thought

I was surprised when I saw that – usually I mute commercials but when I saw the girl wearing Freddie’s coat I rewound it and was amazed to hear Cool Cat. (They also have the Hot Space LP in the background.) I had to explain to my wife why it was kind of a big deal, just based on how the album was received.
I’ve gotta say, it works really well, and it sounds good, too. My opinion on the album has definitely changed over the years, where I appreciate it more now than I used to (still can’t stand Body Language) so hearing that in the commercial was a pleasant surprise.

It took 41 years, but Hot Space finally had the last laugh.
In all seriousness, pretty cool to see that commercial. Still one of my favourite Queen albums, so nice to see it being given some love.

I heard Cool Cat played this evening on Absolute Radio, obviously inspired by this commercial it’s funny how things can become “Cool” these days pardon the pun.

I’m surprised they used a deep cut. In all the years of Queen commercials I don’t think I’ve ever heard a deep cut.

I'm seeing this commercial a lot! Unfortunately, I don't think it's moved the needle a bit. The public doesn't seem to be biting...no bump whatsoever for Cool Cat in sales/streaming that I can see. No one is even exploring it with new comment/views on YouTube.

What is the point of using Cool Cat in that Jungle company ad anyway? So the chick is cool, hot and fashionably striking wearing Freddie's Magic Tour jacket ... So what? Queen was dead in America in 1986 and the jacket probably went unrecognized ...

This doesn't surprise me. Cool Cat has an interesting and strange life. Never the first song I'd put on when I first got the record, it kind of crept up on me over the decades. Probably as I got some objectivity on Queen, which always seems to lack on here. When newly released, I heard tales of it being popular in really rough south London clubs. The sort of place that the guys slow dancing to it with ladeez would've shot the DJ if they knew it was Queen. Kudos to the song and the DJ. About a decade ago, and I think I said this on the old place, it was one of those songs I'd play millennials and Gen Z colleagues when Queen came up in conversation. A text book 'I bet you didn't know they also sounded like this' along with Body Language and Sheer Heart Attack (the song).
Hot Space couldn't have been better designed to be appealing to that generation. The vinyl record cover is bold and cool. The music is the perfect combo of analogue synth / cool simple riffs / 80s cheese. And it's crowning glory is Cool Cat - a song so cool, so perfectly pastiching that side of the early 80s that it was bound to end up in an advert sooner or later. Keep an eye out for Body Language too. It's only a matter of time.

I've seen lots of comments on the Prime commercial on YouTube saying 'what is the song??', so that's something.
Also interesting that Cool Cat is by a LONG stretch the second most popular song on Hot Space on Spotify. I've also had people mention the song to me when I've said 'recommend me some 80s music' - people who didn't know I was into Queen.
I'm glad. It's a good track. It's got something to it.

A girl I work with told me this is now in her top five favorite Queen songs. She's likely a casual fan but this is great to hear. Introduce some other great songs beyond the usual suspects and people will realize that Queen is deeper than they might think. I've always liked this song. And my 14-year-old is a big fan of it as well and she's a cool cat herself. Love Freddie's falsetto here. Glad it's gaining some notoriety.

I do know that this is Australian News Reporter Karl Stefanovic's favorite Queen song when he was interviewing Brian May back in 2021

My wife saw the ad and thought it was weird that they weren't using a Queen song. Now she thinks it's even weirder that they chose THAT song.
I haven't played or listened to Cool Cat in a while, Hot Space doesn't get many outings, but because that ad is on ALL THE TIME.. It's now a permanent earworm.
It'll probably be a single soon, maybe they'll even get the rights to use the Bowie bvox.

If my memory serves me right, Amazon Prime has used The Show Must Go On before, depicting some ballet dancers keep practicing and performing in empty streets, which was really uplifting during the epidemic.

Keep an eye out for Body Language too. It's only a matter of time. It's shocking how little use is made of that track. It's totally for5gotten here in America but it was actually one of Queen's highest charting singles in the States. Almost cracking the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100! It charted higher than: Killer Queen(#12) You're My Best Friend(#16) Somebody To Love(#13) Fat Bottomed Girls/Bicycle Race(#24) Under Pressure(#29) Yup. Easily their most forgotten hit in the States.

Just a thought I have just recently seen this ad and have to say I quite like it, but I was astonished to hear Cool Cat as the accompanying track. I have been a fan since the mid 80s and know full well the hate that Hot Space has continued to get through the last four decades; but I really think the tide has been slowly turning in the last couple of years. I believe the Bo Rhap film has introduced a whole swathe of younger fans to the band - and they are more open-minded about music in certain ways. Also, Queen's legacy has never been bigger and the love for the band is higher than I ever recall (I think they really have reached that untouchable status now) - this helps when it comes to the perception of that album and its track list. Personally, I have never understood the hate for HS. As you say it is all subjective, but I liked many of the tracks (barring the truly dreadful Body Language). And I truly believe it was the last time that Queen thought outside the box in the 80s (The Works, AKOM and The Miracle were really Queen painting by numbers, imo) and offered something different and brave.

Deaky will be sitting quietly in his local sipping his pint and thinking "I knew it would be a hit, but they wouldn`t believe me" And the song writing royalties will be rolling in.

It's always ALWAYS been a favorite of mine. One of the truly good ones on HOT SPACE. The loungey mood organ and glistening guitar are all very atmospheric. I wonder what John was listening to when he did that swanky one. Very minimalist and awesome.

Probably not a whole lot of money and royalties will be coming in from this but it is nice it's getting some exposure and recognition.

Since I'm not sure how serious you are given that last sentence, I'll just say it's obviously Freddie singing the song in said commercial
