I like some of "Hot Space" -Under Pressure obviously although that was a last minute attempt to save the album. Dancer-Calling All Girls-Life Is Real-Action This Day - are all pretty good. The mix and production on the album is just awful , I have several copies of "Hot Space" and they all sound quite poor.

I wonder how you mean that Under Pressure was a last minute attempt to save the album when it was released months before the album and recorded quite early into recording sessions for the album as far as I'm aware

It was an off-single at first (just like TGIC and One Vision) and the comment probably means that it was threw into the track list to boost the quality at least a little bit.

Yes as far as I was aware "Under Pressure" was not recorded during the actual recording sessions for "Hot Space" , if I am wrong I am sorry. However it always seemed to me to have been added on and it didn't really have the vibe of the rest of the album. The song "UP" was not an easy track to do reading on "Quora" a online piece that I have just finished reading. John came up with the original bass line and then forgot it , only for Roger to remember it. Brian also added some vocals to the track and it was thought it could be a three way track with Freddie, David Bowie and Brian. That idea was dropped and Brian seemed to be losing interest in the track and left the studio for a while. It's almost legendary how much cocaine & alcohol was consumed during this marathon recording session which lasted over 24 hours. As it became a big hit around the world it was a regular in the Queen set list but they never did it live with David Bowie guesting at any concert. However David Bowie and Annie Lennox performed a rather good performance at the "Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.

Yes David Bowie also included Under Pressure on some of his " Best Of" releases and sang it at his shows. The writing credits are [ Freddie Mercury , David Bowie , John Deacon , Brian May , Roger Taylor]. I think David Bowie was the driving force after John had put down the very clever bass opening and then Freddie and Roger added their ideas for the song. I did read an article in a issue of "Classic Rock" that Brian was not very keen on the collaboration how ever he warmed to the song in time. Under Pressure was released in the United Kingdom on the 2nd November 1981 and spent two weeks at number one during an elven week stay on the chart. David Bowie during the recording of Under Pressure said to John "No I don't like that bit of Bass you have put in there." John replied "Excuse me ? I'm the bass player right !" This is how I do it !" So it would appear there was a bit of one-upmanship going on . How ever it all turned out well in the end although Brian wished that the song had been mixed differently .

The trouble with these RSD releases is you've got to physically go there to get the items, which I guess is the whole point. Not practical for me, which is a shame, as there's a Mark Knopfler EP I'd have liked to get my hands on.

Even being physically in the shop doesn't guarantee that you will get what you want: (1) not all the shops get the full catalogue and they don't even know what they are getting until they actually get their stock (2) if there is a long queue, what you want may have ran out by the time that you make it to the seller. The only way to get it online is via Discogs / eBay scalpers.

Don't wanna go off topic but what’s that? THISThe last Knopfler album I bought was Kill to Get Crimson, which I loved, but I found a lot of his albums from Get Lucky onward to be rather samey. I think I need to revisit those albums and see how wrong I may be. (He still hasn’t topped Golden Heart, though Sailing to Philadelphia and All the Roadrunning came dang close.)

I like a few tracks off each album, but I tend to go for the 'Ragpicker's Dream' type stuff, rather than 'Why Aye Man' and the like. I love 'Heart Full Of Holes', 'Old Pigweed', that wistful type of stuff.

Straighten up the silhouettes, use a better font and it would be OK - kind of an updated Hot Space with the colours bleeding into each other. But yes, it is as cheesy as some stilton wrapped in rugby socks

"performed solely by Freddie Mercury and John Deacon" - little detail revealed.
The two Queen legends Freddie Mercury and John Deacon penned and recorded the upbeat song together. What’s particularly unique about the recording is that Deacon plays every instrument on “Cool Cat.” That’s apart from Freddie accompanying the bassist on the electric piano and singing in an extraordinary falsetto throughout, the only song he sang entirely in falsetto, further highlighting his amazing vocal range.

It’s a fun morning in a queue, chatting to other collectors. The owners bring coffee and biscuits out and have a natter too, when else does that happen. Maybe I’m lucky, I’ve never failed to get the records I’m after either. Tbh I’m disappointed when there isn’t a release I want, I enjoy the excitement of the day too much. Yeah, terrible artwork as usual now

Where I live it's also almost impossible to get to a store with decent RSD stock unfortunately, so I'm not getting my hopes up. If I do figure something out and am able to get my hands on this release I am thinking about doing a small run of sleeves with alternative cover art.
