^ Yes it’s a brilliant picture, that’s why I saved it. It’s not mine, I found it in another forum and here‘s the source and credit (Dan Coles on Twitter). And 3 more fantastic shots, from the O2 in London, June 9th, 2022.

Now back to today: Brian announced not only slight changes to the spot lights 🤪, but also some changes in the set list. I was able to listen to parts of the concert on a stream, but haven’t noticed anything new. So I guess they might have changed the order of the songs a bit? Anything else?

Setlist in Osaka below spoiler tag. They made some changes at the beginning and took out more songs: 1. Machines (intro) 2. Radio Ga Ga 3. Hammer to Fall 4. Fat Bottomed Girls 5. Another One Bites The Dust 6. I'm In Love With My Car 7. Bicycle Race 8. I Was Born To Love You 9. I Want It All 10. Love of My Life 11. Teo Teorriatte 12. Drum Solo 13. Under Pressure 14. Tie Your Mother Down 15. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 16. Who Wants to Live Forever 17. Guitar Solo 18. Is This the World We Created? 19. A Kind of Magic 20. Don't Stop Me Now 21. Somebody to Love 22. The Show Must Go On 23. Bohemian Rhapsody 24. We Will Rock You 25. Radio Ga Ga (reprise) 26. We Are the Champions
Oh, thank you for the heads up! I missed that on the last page. So they changed the order quite a bit. But what did they leave out? On the first sight I don’t see it. I’m also curious, because Brian mentioned in his Instagram post, that the Fire Department Marshall didn’t like his “fire shooting guitar” during A Kind Of Magic for safety reasons and that they had to change things there as well. It didn’t sound like Brian would just leave his toy in the box tonight. 😁

Brian's AKOM rockets came out from the stage, a grounded prop instead of the usual from his guitar. If I saw it right, anyway. And if you'd like to use spoilers just do [spoilers] plus the closing slash at the end.

Wow. 😟 I love that song and funny performance with it. I wonder, why they left it out? It’s a hit and not that long or exhausting to play or sing.
Maybe the „mirror“ was broken? 😜

That’s really interesting! I just went back to look at all my pictures from the concerts that I attended in 2022, because I don’t remember any spot lights coming from behind the audience at all. So I looked at my pictures taken from one of the Opera Boxes on stage and there it LOOKS like there were 2 spotlights coming from somewhere behind the audience. But when I look at my pictures from other nights and venues from different perspectives, then there are non. Now after a closer search, it seems even these spot lights were coming from a rig hanging in the middle of the arena? It’s visible in this picture. So it appears to me that QAL don’t use spot lights from behind the audience, when they’re playing „regular“ arenas? While the band was on the Main Stage all spot lights were coming from the rig above the stage, mostly from the lower backside of the round screen. It’s actually really fascinating how many lights there are all over the stage! Most are somehow hidden when you look at it from the front. What a brilliant photo. That’s really interesting, normally they would use between four and six “house spots”. I can’t think of another large scale tour that doesn’t use them, although I’m sure there might be one or two now as lighting and production designers keep a close eye on each other’s work and quick to note how well ideas work! One other observation is that there don't seem to be swathes of empty seats.

I don’t think so. The dome is probably too high and not suitable to accommodate that. Instead they had 2 light towers like in a stadium. And maybe more lights from the back? Today Brian posted several videos of the dome and their stage in Osaka on Instagram. I can’t bring it over, but maybe you can checking out there. Brian was positive that it wound much better today.

One other observation is that there don't seem to be swathes of empty seats. True. Although this picture was taken in the O2 in London in 2022. That was „all standing“ GA floor in a sold out house. (But I haven’t seen empty seats in the videos from Japan so far either.) Looking at this picture the difference between the arrangement of seats around the B-stage and catwalk in Japan (~10 meter distance?) and how close fans are usually standing is staggering. No wonder that it feels weird to Brian. They’re used to have the fans 2 meters in front of them.

Not Japan, so a bit off-topic, but regarding the use of houselights: I remember that QAL did use the strip of screens around the whole arena in London, between the upper and lower tier, for A Kind Of Magic. That looked really cool! The colourful lights from the main stage were shooting around the arena. You can see that very well in this video, when Brian on the B-stage. K tried to filming all, which is impossible when you’re too close to the main stage. But you can’t have it all. 😉 youtu.be/r8nMAls_xNI?si=F_GKx-paS48Aw_MW

Just came back from the Osaka show. Saw this show also in Denver in November 2023.
The Osaka dome is absolutely gigantic. At least double the size of your standard arena, if not triple the size. Attending a Queen show in Japan is something special. The audience has so much love for the band, they really have them in their hearts. They sing along more or less every track except the “deep cuts” like IILWMC and Machines. Adam sings just incredible. He lifts the show to a new level. Roger seemed energetic and giving his all. Brian played in general well, very creative solos, fx CLTCL but somehow I have a feeling he is an out of it somehow? Can not put my finger on. He looks tired but of course he isn’t young anymore. There is a kind of melancholic vibe about him. Special moment was Teo Torriatte. The song itself already is of course, but this performance will be forever unique. First Brian on the acoustic guitar singing the 2 first verses alone. The band is not tight in that part. Brian doesn’t count enough and is behind Spike and Roger who try to keep it together. Then Brian’s voice is a bit unstable in the verses. When Adam kicks in, the song takes off. What a voice. The band plays well, until the PA system collapses a few times and in the end there is no sound at all anymore, just hearing the stage monitors at a low level. Luckily the audience takes over and sings Teo Torriatte beautifully.

My apologies, I didn't read it properly and assumed that was from the current tour. I thought it looked strangely familiar! 😁

Maybe they decided to use the ones from the sides on the towers more this time. (Source: @gmd_ax on X)

Luckily the audience takes over and sings Teo Torriatte beautifully. Brian has always seemed to get really sentimental about Japan, and was supposedly crying onstage during the Works! tour dates there in '84, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's feeling really torn up about playing there for what is, let's face it, probably the last time. I've translated a few things he's said from Japanese sources and he always seems to really hold Japan in his heart. There was absolutely no way I could afford to go there to see any of these dates but man I wish I could have... I love Teo Torriatte so much.

I found some great videos from one of the opera boxes on stage last night. This one shows the Opening. I love to see what happens behind the screen, when the music starts, the band enters and the big screen slowly reveals them. You can see Roger taking his seat, Brian waving to fans and Adam coming up, being completely in his zone already and ignoring the fans. It’s always the like this, but somehow not.

This is Brian‘s compilation of his Instagram videos from the Osaka Dome. He walks the place and shows the Dome, Stage and part of the tech department. It’s great to hear that he’s still in aw of all these things. Oh, and of course they have the best crew in the world!

„Mission Osaka accomplished“ (source of the picture: @meifan1232 on X) Yesterday has been the first time since the three of them started touring as QAL in 2012, that they all bowed together. Usually it have been Spike, Neil and Tyler together first, then Adam and then Brian and Roger together. This time the 3 went to the B-Stage and bowed together. Probably because the way down there was long and they wanted to bow while „God Save The Queen“ was still playing?

Someone had lots of fun on his bike!
(I think this is a brilliant video, but beware, if you don’t like over-the-top Adam)
The video shows about the second half of Bicycle Race and the beginning of I Was Born To Love You. Adam started the song on the bike this time.

Full Osaka Show. Be fast. Man, what a grand stage.... Great live mix... I have to give them that... Still, having refreshed Queen Rock Montreal the difference between Roger's singing IILWMC back then and now is striking. It's such a shame that guys are getting old so fast

The band is now in snowy Sapporo. Roger’s daughter shared this photo of Roger and Adam checking out the Queen+ Adam Lambert snow sculpture in the city. That looks really cool, just like the 2 guys in front of it.

Brian has always seemed to get really sentimental about Japan, and was supposedly crying onstage during the Works! tour dates there in '84 '85. Where did you read that ? But it wouldn't surprise me - the band was almost certainly on the verge of breaking up at that point. Live Aid changed everything for them.

I think Live Aid is myth ,Queen wanted to continue ,according to Music Life interview in 1985 , (posted here queenchat.boards.net/thread/1602/queen-japanese-interview-translations?page=4). John says twice that they are going to the studio in November 1985 and change producer. That was during Japanese Tour before Live Aid.

I love this new picture from soundcheck today. Roger posted it. “A quick chat before soundcheck” I somehow wonder, what they were chatting about. Or were they just waiting for Brian to finish his (acoustic) soundcheck on the B-stage?
