I first saw the news on the r/queen subreddit, safe to say my heart skipped a beat when i saw the live disc. (Not counting the rainbow tracks) what do you mean?

Im saying i was incredibly surprised and did not expect that to be included at all, i genuinely thought it would just be only recycled stuff all over again.

Playing devil’s advocate: are we SURE that Polar Bear comes from the debut album sessions? They WERE limited in time to “off hours”, so maybe what we have here is all they were able to record? Maybe it’s from the Queen II sessions. Or maybe I’m moving the goalposts considerably…
I think the pros outweigh the cons considerably here. The remixed album (hopefully with better drums), Mad the Swine in its rightful place, the sessions disc (with a Mad the Swine outtake!), See What a Fool De Lane Lea version, backing tracks/instrumentals disc, and four bonus live tracks are worth it alone for me. I don’t care about the BBC sessions, or the hodgepodge of Rainbow tracks, and would’ve preferred the entire Imperial gig. C’est la vie.
As for the price – it always starts off exorbitant on Amazon and drops down as time goes on. I would hope that would be the case here, too.

Of course, the fact that they've only released a live version of Hangman doesn't necessarily mean they don't have the studio version - it could just mean they didn't want to release it.

Of course, the fact that they've only released a live version of Hangman doesn't necessarily mean they don't have the studio version - it could just mean they didn't want to release it. The actual book clearly states that a studio version doesn't exist. That said, I guess that a rehearsal or a 'live in studio' version wouldn't be considered a 'proper' studio version (an attempt to a backing track plus overdubs).

I straight up just think QPL doesn't have it, if it does exist. It might also come from another album session… we found out recently from the Sotheby’s auction that Hangman was considered for Sheer Heart Attack. Whether it was recorded or not is a different story. Again, I’m playing devil’s advocate and moving goalposts, but it seems that the provenance of things aren’t always what they seem (e.g. for years we thought Silver Salmon came from the debut album sessions, when it was actually from 1977; I Go Crazy was at least partly recorded in December ‘82; etc etc etc).

Now.. don’t think it’s very credible but this guy is the second person I heard say that there will be a 2024 version of Queen II. I doubt it but if it is in the pipeline.. that would be great! youtu.be/Z5x95FZHd_8?si=duzZfDdhLN3k8bp5

I strongly doubt that before they had time to release one box set, they decided to release another one.

Creepy made an entirely valid point that has already been proven true many times - people have been speculating about some unknown future release IN BETWEEN announcement of something tangible and release of same. As an example.... Somebody already posted "when's the second single from the Queen 1 box set being released"

But I can't imagine they were working on an old Smile song in the autumn of 1973 when they were bursting with new ideas.

"See What A Fool I've Been" and "White Queen" are from the smile days though, perhaps they considered it as a B-side.

Good call on See What a Fool, but I'm not sure White Queen was from the Smile days... the lyrics were written in 1969, yeah, but I think either Brian or Tim (can't remember who) said that it didn't make it to Smile's repertoire. (And it's also possible that Brian had only the lyrics written as a poem, and wrote the rest of the song later...)
