Now I’m here gets skipped everytime I would not call NIH one of the worst Queen songs, but the studio version is indeed quite lame. On stage the song is one of my favourites, especially from '77 on. At Rainbow '74 and Odeon '75 the song was played too slow and therefore lacking energy.

"Funny How Love Is" is so out of place on Queen II. Its Queen trying to be Phil Spector, much like Fred's Larry Lurex version of "I can hear music" . Queen were much better when they did their own thing , Hot Space being a another fine example of trying to deliberately shoehorn themselves into another style.

I really like FHLI it's a nice bit of light among the darkness of Side Black. and if we're talking about "Queen trying to be..." then the same should apply to Bring Back That Leroy Brown, Good Company, My Melancholy Blues and Crazy Little Thing Call Love

To my ears it just doesn't feel like it belongs I definitely agree about CLTCL, but Good Company doesn't lift a production technique and signature sound from anywhere , yes it's "in the style of" the Temperance 7 and Chris Barber but it's got Queen's ( well BHM's ) own twist to it. Same with MMB and BBTLB they're pastiches not poor quality clones.

I'd add that the segue of each track from TFFMS > Nevermore > MoTBQ > FHLI makes the song "belong" there and is a perfect fit. It (for me) feels good to end that four-song suite on an "up" after the previous three going from tension to forlorn to aggression. Ogre and SSoR make perfect standalone bookends to this "suite" However, i completely agree with your Hot Space comment - Queen had gone from "leaders" to "musical sheep". Jazz in 78 was the last time Queen were leading until 89.

Yeah Staying Power isn't very popular but I don't know why. One of Freddie's most exuberant and fun tracks. I place it along the likes of DSMN, Seaside Rendezvous or Good Old Fashioned Loverboy. I think it still sounds fresh today.

Let's make a poll tournament for the worst song off every Queen album, and we'll have the chart...
