The remastered version of Driven By You was just played on Absolute Radio, not sure if it was just because it was over radio but it sounded pretty shocking to me. Very flat and dull sounding and didn't seem to be mixed well at all. Bass was far too high in the mix as well.

Just listened to it on iTunes. Sounded good. Crisper and a bit crunchier than the original.

I've hovered over the boxset with my mouse a few times now but just can't bring myself to blow all that money. I might get those posters to put in my Queen room...but other than that I may just settle with my Apple subscription. Damn shame though. I was hoping for something more, but with Brian he doesn't want to release anything but the best. So outtakes, unfinished songs, etc. just won't see the 'light' of day.

Must admit, even listening on Spotify it sounded ok compared to the original CD I have here. I'll still only order the vinyl though I think.

I’m waiting to read the booklet details as I’m still not sure whether the album is actually ‘remixed’ (which I doubt, but is claimed by the naming of the tracks as ‘2021 mix’), or just ‘remastered’ which is what the press release states.
Interesting that the track listing (certainly on Apple) specifically calls out ‘I’m Scared’ on the main album CD as ‘Justin’s Mix ‘92’ whereas every other track says ‘2021 Mix’. (and is ‘Justin’s Mix ‘92’ the original BTTL version or the single version, which is different? (Surely they have to stick with the original album version for the album?)
If they HAVE remixed everything else (which, again, I doubt) then why not that song? And if they haven’t actually remixed but only remastered then why name them as new mixes?
As usual, a complete dog’s breakfast.

I think this kind of points the way to what The Miracle box set might have been. It's probably the album where they had the most 'bonus' material floating about, so all the B sides on the CD singles would have been included, and if we were lucky we might have got a DVD with the videos on it. Add £60 for the vinyl and some bits of tat, and you've got a £100+ box set of stuff we've already got. I believe that,what you are thinking might be true, when the miracle re-released. |

The content is really quite disappointing and I don't think he'll actually listen to us whining about it. He'll go with the Stepfords and think it's what we wanted all along.
Oh....and there's another new issue of Queen Greatest Hits coming out too. Yippee!

I've never had a physical copy of BTTL before so seeing that it is being reissued has made it easier to get a copy of the album, even if the mixes may be possibly insuperior to the original it is still nice that they are releasing the album even if it has its flaws, I am also excited to hear the bonus disc tracks for the deluxe editions of the reissue.

I watched the video. It was nice to see it and hear the song again. I know it's not perhaps the kind of release we'd hope for in Queen's 50th Anniversary year but honestly I'm enjoying it. As for the reference to Freddie in the press release, Brian always said that Freddie gave his blessing to this song. He's been saying this as far back as 1992 at least, so I don't think there's anything particularly cringeworthy about him saying it now. Also, I don't think it will affect sales either way, everyone knows they worked closely together, since obviously Brian was the guitarist and Freddie was the singer of Queen....
Listening to the song again, and listening to other tracks from the album it struck me just how much Queen there is in there. Of course, there would be, because Brian's contribution to Queen was a huge part of the sound. I think what I'm getting at is that Back To The Light, Happiness, Another World, and Electric Fire can go quite a long ways as to answering the question of how Queen might have sounded through the 1990s into the 2000s, with or without Freddie although the idea of Queen in the 90s would really only have been possible had Freddie still been around. Quite honestly I prefer listening to Driven By You to pretty much anything that's in the chart today.

I've always liked Driven By You so I'm glad I have 2 versions on my Back to the Light CD. It's probably a more commercial song than what I'm used to listening to and liking, but then when I bought BTTL it was likely the most commercial CD in my collection.
