Just recently on BBC Radio 5, not sure how promising it is. It does sound like they shouldn't have brought that up lol.

Wow.. Imperial College? Could even be pre-Deacy though that seems unlikely. Could even have some unheard live songs, aaaargh..

They evdently did quite a few IC gigs. One very very early one with Mike Grose, basically a Smile gig, then the one with Barry, and at least 2 more with John (including his second). If Brian is right and this is a "popcorn and apple juice" gig, it may well be the pre-John era, which is remarkable.
There must be some telltale on the tape box or recording. Brian says it just said "concert" so how could they know where it's from?
We'll find out I suppose, maybe. Anyway it won't emerge for a year or more, if ever, but it's still exciting.

So 10, 20 or 50 years to this release yet?

He's going out of his way to promote this - this is very promising.
And it's nice to hear him not being overly dismissive of what they were like in 1970.
I'm happy enough that the outro music was Zappa !

Yeah, Brian loves to talk about things that will never see the light of day, such as their sessions with Bowie, his jams with Van Halen and countless other things.
At this point, I don't count on anything of interest coming out anytime soon, if ever. They had all year to release the TM box set and they are wasting everyone's time. Greg also teased some sort of Jazz anniversary edition two years ago that never happened either.
If a pandemic that prevents all sorts of public events for the better part of this year and predictably the whole 2021 hasn't pushed them to release already finished products, who knows how much longer will they keep their minds on whatever they're doing but pleasing the fans. They don't owe us anything but they can fuck off with all these vain teases.
That said, I would love them to prove me wrong anytime. Come at me!

To be fair it didn't sound like he planned to talk about it, the "you shouldn't have said that, we agreed!" sounded genuine and I assume everything that followed was just him going with the flow without making the interview awkward. So he told a nostalgic story about it rather than being too evasive lest it raises more questions. It doesn't sound like anything solid yet but I too would love to be proven wrong!

I feel confident that this will be released as Brian surprisingly likes it (his opinion has stopped things in the past) and I'll be surprised if Roger says no as he was the one who pushed for Live Around The World in the first place.

I feel confident that this will be released as Brian surprisingly likes it (his opinion has stopped things in the past) and I'll be surprised if Roger says no as he was the one who pushed for Live Around The World in the first place. Let's not forget it was Roger who pushed for Rainbow to be released, after he listened to the tapes in his car. I'm pretty sure he's more willing than Brian to release this early tape. He already uploaded some rarities on his Instagram, including an invitation for this specific 1970 concert. Anyway, here's the quote: "Queen drummer Roger Taylor explains to InTheStudio host Redbeard how during preparation for the band’s most recent 2013/2014 tour the Rainbow concert tapes resurfaced. “I had a copy of the Rainbow live... in my car. I was on my way to rehearsal on the first day and I said to Brian, ‘These tracks are great!’ I forgot that we were a really heavy band.” Guitarist Brian May continues: “There weren’t any tricks to be had. It’s all live and dangerous, as it is now with us. We knew what we were doing in those days. We were very clear and we were very well oiled in a sense; we knew each other very well.” bravewords.com/news/queen-open-rock-time-capsule-on-inthestudio-roger-taylor-brian-may-discuss-live-at-the-rainbow-74

If they were going to put the tapes out, they'd have done so as the "top 100 bootlegs"

From Chopin1995's post:
"Queen drummer Roger Taylor explains to InTheStudio host Redbeard how during preparation for the band’s most recent 2013/2014 tour the Rainbow concert tapes resurfaced. “I had a copy of the Rainbow live... in my car. I was on my way to rehearsal on the first day and I said to Brian, ‘These tracks are great!’ I forgot that we were a really heavy band.”It's been so long since Queen were a really heavy band that Roger can be forgiven for forgetting. I consider the Rainbow DVD to not only contain Queen performing live at their absolute peak, it's also my all time favourite music home video or DVD. Ted

Brian is talking about maybe some day releasing something worthwhile... Old news, Im afraid In the meantime, we've had 2 Mike Millard masters this year, delivering what QPL simply DOES NOT!
I've stopped hoping for the official camp to deliver the goods. If they'd care about their fans they would have included 3 or 4 News of the world audio concerts in their 'lavish' NOTW box. All the incredible stuff is there in their archive and the time for release is NOW. But they're just a money make machine...

I wouldn't keep blaming QPL, it's the record company who get the final say of releases. Brian and Roger were very critical of the Queen Forever album but they couldn't stop the compilation being released as it's what the music label wanted. Music labels want to make as much money as possible on promoting an album so having something which isn't as wide appealing will not be as successful.

It is on the companies to have the final word, on Air is full of useless interviews because of the record company.
Forever was to be released in 2011 Nov-Dec, for some reasons it was postponed.
In 2014 Queen renewed their record contract with Universal music group and Sony (former EMI publishing). Forever was obligation from previous contract. What Queen production didn't do right was that accepted the MJ estate for TMBMTLTT, while they could have realesed Queen version without MJ. Also they hired wrong producer for the song. Thank God the remix was so bad with poor sales, otherwise it was planned a remixes album by the same producer. (play the game remix was leaked). Their last mistake with Forever was the rumor of outtakes, different takes, etc for some songs. If it was like that it could be very interesting. What they did... Just cut few intros & few outros named the edits different versions....
I don't want to speak about the bonus material on Air and NOTW boxset.
It's been long time, since I don't trust Brian's quality control and decisions about music and Queen products.

It's been long time, since I don't trust Brian's quality control and decisions about music and Queen products. You're right, Forever was lost opportunity. If I can remember correctly, Roger was the one who talked about having Dog With A Bone demo in his iPod and possibility of finishing some old unrealesed stuff. So probably, it was Brian who stopped this idea (as part of his "quality control" obsession).
It would be interesting to know, who was in charge of the key decisions in last two decades. If we ommit Jim Beach and a label, Brian was probably the one who invited Roger for their performance with Paul Rodgers. But it was Roger, who said he doesn't want to be a karaoke band and while Brian was busy with protectiong foxes and badgers and completing his PhD, started with Paul the key work on the Cosmos Rocks album (though the idea of "cosmic" identity was certainly Brian's).
For some reason, my impression is that is Roger who still wants to be active - writing new songs, probably releasing the old stuff (The Lot, Rainbow,...) and Brian hten came and stopped all the plans.

I'm going to stick my neck out here. The year of recording is the interesting part. I think this recording was 'found' by Brian IE the archival team alerted him to it this year and flagged it for a copyright dump as it's now 50 years old. Whether it gets a proper release or not, I'd keep your eyes on streaming services between now and the end of 2020 because it will appear, even if just for a few hours so it is copyrighted. It might even have been and gone already.

Unfortunately the leaked link was in QZ, it was a snippet about 1minute only for listening not download. I didn't know or fond a way to downloaded back them. Maybe someone else here have it. P. S. It was more in the way of the song with filtered vocals like on TMBMTLTT, spacey sounds etc.
