Does anyone know how much of 1/5/75 exists in Queen's archive? The ANATO Hammersmith boxset had some of the film. Does a soundboard recording exist or is it just AUD only?

Personally, I think they probably have the whole show. There's circulating bits and pieces of MOST songs from the whole show, even SWAFIB. That said, I'm not too sure about a soundboard, there's never been any snippets of it, even when Now I'm Here got officially released with Hammersmith. We just don't really know enough information to come to a definitive answer right now.

The show was filmed, and initially just three songs were broadcast on Japanese TV not long after the show took place. Since then more footage has emerged and been deciphered (leading to discoveries like this clip being from Liar), leading one to almost certainly conclude that the entire show was filmed.
So must likely a soundboard recording exists, somewhere.

My favorite is the March concert at the Rainbow Theatre. It probably sounds the most believable compared to the November show Mine too, I hope the supposed 38-min 16mm footage from the archive show up, with Big Spender and Bama Lama Bama Loo included. I still don't get it why Big Spender was in the November show but omitted in the March show. (Didn't want to pay royalties? prob) Judging by the duration of this 'lost' video (38-min), it matches with the duration of the LP that was shelved. So, could the content of this footage be the same as those eight songs that were supposed to be part of the live album?

I wouldnt say that. Remember, the audio that the Japanese broadcast used wasn't from the soundboard, so to say that the soundboard must exist because the whole show was filmed doesn't add up. There's also the matter of what SURVIVED since then, sure the whole show was filmed, but we don't know how much of it still exists today.

I recall inquiring somewhere (sorry, I don't recall if it was within this Forum or elsewhere) about which songs might have been included in that 38 min. footage and I received a reply that the songs on a bootleg album of the same concert match those songs that were videotaped. It was their better known/more frequently performed live songs that were videotaped, apparently, in which case songs like Great King Rat, See What a Fool I've Been and The Fairly Feller's Master-Stroke were (unfortunately) excluded.

It would make sense if the 38 minute cut were the same as the bootleg, Son And Daughter and MTRNR line up.

I'll give them this; they keep their doors closed. There's not much known about what the search in the archives have resulted in. Apart from some releases, that is I remember Greg Brooks, at one point some years ago, said that they recently had discovered some superb film material they didn't know about. I wonder what that may have been....

I remember Brian saying years ago in an interview that they recorded every single Queen gig but that it may not be the best quality.

They definitely don't have every SINGLE Queen gig, QPL finding a show from 1970 wouldn't have been such a big deal if they did. I can't remember where this info was sourced from, but I remember hearing that the archive of shows only really started at the SHA tour, but even then, it's still not everything. From what I know, most shows in Queen's possesion are mono mixdowns with no audience. Certainly not in a "releasable" state in QPL's eyes. Can't really overdub or pitch correct with a mono midown, and AI will also never really be able to make suitable stems for a Queen show in my opinion. However that's a long and technical rant for another day.

Well in the interview Brian said the recordings were only for the band to listen to how well they played at gigs but that it wouldn't necessarily be good enough quality to be released to the public.

I think Brian clearly underestimates our general willingness to listen to something that sounds like it was recorded on a Dictaphone in the pocket of a duffel coat, three miles away from the venue. 😂

Brian's definition of "good enough quality" is very different to ours. Judging by the Sleeping On The Sidewalk live release and some other pieces I've heard, the soundboards seemingly all roughly sound like Houston's raw source. More than good enough. Plus that Vienna 82 soundboard that came out with Milton Keynes.

John Anthony's FB: It's alive!! 😭🙏 May 1st, eh? That's pretty awesome. Of course, it doesn't necessarily mean the interview will air on May 1st. It's possible that it's just being filmed then for Queen to edit by the time of the anniversary in July.

Personally, I don't think it's next year since 2024 is Queen II's anniversary, and it's been said in the past that QI/QII would come out as a joint boxset, if ever. Plus the recent recreation of Queen II's album cover and all. Just seems like Queen II is going to be involved with whatever this is. This is my own personal guess, with no real concrete evidence to back it up, but I personally think an announcement around Summer, with stuff like the John Anthony interview being used as promotion, and then a release around November for the holiday season.
