Some "inside" info. I have a friend who is a producer here in Spain. One of his best friend is a big boss here on Universal Spain. I asked him if there's any info of a new release of Queen. And he said that there's a box set of Queen first album. But, he said something that really make me feel sad... he said that on the box there will be the remaster of 2011, the new mix, but also material from Rainbow 1974. On his own words: I see a lots of things that was already released... so, yeah, that's a typical release of Queen Productions, so it seems to be legit Hello and thank you for sharing this information with us. It's a pity of course if it will be like this, but considering that this is the last release of Queen Production and Universal, they will try to put their efforts to make much money, but to explain this release so that the inexperienced will run to knock down the doors of stores. Last worthy release was Rainbow'74. Now Brooks' recent words about a surprise awaiting us or something like that, he said, turn out to be true. And such a box will cost as much as an airplane wing or as much as a last iPhone.

The News Of The World boxset didn't even come with Houston '77, a completely filmed show of one of their best tours. It's even less likely that they'd do something like Imperial College '70, before they were a refined act. My ideal Queen I boxset (AKA Delusions of a dreamer): -The new mix (PLEASE, please a Dolby Atmos version??) -Instrumentals based on the new mixes. -De Lane Lea demos remixed (If they have multitracks for a remix of The Night Comes Down, I'm going to guess that they have the rest.) -Early/Alternate takes (Like the Great King Rat " Take 1" and " Take 4" that have been brought to conventions.) -Imperial College 1970 live concert with Roger and Brian commentary. -Blu-Ray footage of all available Queen I music videos (Both versions of Liar and KYA) with TASTEFUL remasters. None of that AI crap used for The Miracle boxset. I like it. Something like that would be my wish. But I would add the Mad The Swine version to the vinyl version of the album reissue in the version it could have been released in if someone didn't like something.

If there's no surround sound mix to go with the new remix, then I think we can safely assume that Queen simply aren't interested in surround sound anymore. I hope they DON'T put the De Lane Lea demos in this set, but I guess it's inevitable, just like the 2011 remaster will be included. ...although Great King Rat from the 1984 tour would be cool, but pretty unlikely. more likely, you'll get all 4 minutes of KYA and Liar from Rio 85 (although that is technically, part of the 84 Works tour)

It sounds way more hungry, more vicious. The one on Queen I sounds kind of "over-polished" in a way.

The De Lane Lea acetate (with stereo mixes) is -aledgedly- the only surviving thing of that era.

30+ years later and we're still discusing the Mad The Swine "original mix"? Yep. We want it back where it should be WITH those segue drums at the start AND the word "I've". And on the CD please, not an vinyl exclusive. That would be taking the piss. Let's hope the acetate version of "Keep" is on there too. Beautifully different it is if I recall - nice and raw - much better than the De Lane Lea demo version.

Hoping for all this in the Queen I box set:
Original mix (existing Ludwig remaster is fine) New stereo mix (but not as radical as, for example, Hollywood Records Liar remix) Instrumental mix Dolby Atmos mix (although probably streaming only like Revolver)
Couldn’t care less for existing live tracks already available. I guess some bootlegs restored and remastered would be welcome. Also, unlikely to have any video content.
A nice book in the box set with previously unseen photos would be nice.
*prays to the god of quality box sets*

Thin Lizzy are about to drop a combo box set for their Jailbreak and Johnny the Fox albums that’s gonna include the original versions and new remixes of both, a disc each of previously unreleased outtakes and demos, a previously unreleased live concert and a Blu-ray with surround and Atmos mixes of both albums.
If Queen produce something even half as satisfying as that I’ll be very surprised.

Now adding some outtakes and unrelrased concerts, that's for big fans. In cases like that, I understand Queen releases, they aim to the causal Queen listener or fan not big fans. A remix could appeal to a average buyer, but an outrake or half finished demo not.

WHY do Queen still aim for the casual listener and not deep cut fans, even with the special edition releases? I get it (to a point) with the live shows being greatest hits jukeboxes, but archive releases should surely be aimed at a more hardcore audience.

We do already have a thread on the upcoming Thin Lizzy release, but I agree with the comments here that hard core Queen fans would cherish something similar. Thin Lizzy's recent Live and Dangerous 8 disc box, with the remastered L&D album, plus 7 discs of the complete shows that made up the original release, is a perfect example of what a Live Killers box could look like, and I'm sure fans would love it.

I too agree that a re-release of Queen I and/or any other of their albums should cater to their hardcore fans. In that case I believe out takes and demos should be included as long as the quality of the tracks isn't too rough. A previously uncirculating live album would be okay for inclusion but I would prefer video or film footage of the same, again if the quality isn't too compromised.

Maybe with IA. The De Lane Lea acetate (with stereo mixes) is -aledgedly- the only surviving thing of that era. Which is odd. If I am not mistaken, a bootleg cd called In The Beginning, released by a Dutch couple in the 90s (I think), features these demo recordings in excellent quality as they were taken from a cassette which the band sent out to labels to secure a deal. Surely someone still has a copy of this cassette somewhere?

Ted I don't care about quality at all with these things. It's 1973 and a band who doesn't know if they're going to make it or not, I really don't mind any quality issues. I want it all! Warts and all.

I can't get over my astonishment. Queen's latest release has been a special box set of "The Miracle", which includes a CD with never-before-heard recordings and, in addition, 6 never-before-released songs. However, I read people asking "when Queen is going to release something worthwhile?".
This is something you read on the forums over and over again. In the last 10 years, Queen has released albums such as "Rainbow", "Hammersmith Odeon", "Forever", "News of the world box" or "The miracle box". Many people use this music as if it were disposable Kleenex. I have no doubt that when the "Queen I" box set is published, THE NEXT DAY it will be said in this forum. "I didn't like it", "What is the next release going to be", "Let's hope the next release is the good one, not like the previous ones". The quality of the product doesn't matter because for some people, it will never be good enough.
Some of you are still waiting for Queen to release a collection of unreleased songs that Queen has kept in a safe. Guys, wake up and realize the reality. None of the boxes are going to be better than "The Miracle" or "News of the world." That collection of unreleased songs that you are waiting for does not exist because they have never been recorded.
The "News of the world" and "The miracle" boxes are true gems. I don't understand how so much complaining is possible. I really don't understand it.

I think many will disagree with you that the News of the World and The Miracle box sets are real gems because they were incomplete in one way or another. For example: NOTW box set: Where is the 1977 Houston concert? If I'm not mistaken, the audio soundcheck from the 1975 Hammersmith Odeon(Now I'm Here)added in this box, despite the fact that these are different years. Yeah, the Raw Sessions were great, but the rest of the material could have been made more interesting. Somehow made it into this box set. This could justify the price, and attract more buyers and fewer complaints about the fact that it is not a complete set again. As for the Miracle Box Set: Here I agree with you more that it is a real gem, but again, the claims are quite justified. For example, the choice of Face it Alone as a single to advertise a box set, given that the song itself was deprived of some important and interesting moments. We have all heard the demo version of this song many times and imagined that it would come out more or less in this version, but what released is what released. Therefore, our complaints are completely justified, since we vote with our money. Yes, after the release of Queen I box set we will continue to complain, especially if the release does not live up to our expectations.

We were very fortunate with The Miracle box set. The only 2 things to critique are: 1) I wish the whole album was remixed in 5.1. Not just the singles. (Obviously existing mixes already done) 2) Shame only IWIA was the only true HD scanned video. The upscaling of the others is pretty crappy. (Obviously master film prints missing)

Broke my damn heart. As a newer fan though, I'd say it's a relatively good time to be a Queen fan since it seems like there was a long stretch of nothing until about ten or so years ago.

My main gripe with the Miracle set, other than the lack of true HD remasters of the videos, was the fact we were told on several occasions there’d be a full alternative remix of the album - Brian even mentioned it in his unboxing video, even though the set he had right in front of him contained no such thing!
Otherwise it was definitely a step up from the News of the World set. Whichever way you try and cut it, not including Houston in that at least as audio was inexcusable.

Both the NOTW and Miracle boxes tried to treat their alternate sessions and demos as if they were finallised songs. Some of the steps in that process, i.e. mixing, are okay but the others make me wonder if they actually wanted to release them at all, nobody in their right mind expects a demo to sound like a finalised song, so what's the point in cutting it down and lathering it in pitch correction. Not only does that make the authentisity worse, it make the tracks sound horrible to listen to in some cases, I don't expect to hear pitch correction artifacts in material this old especially not material that would usually be intended for hardcore fans who wouldn't care if one note is slightly out of tune hell, I doubt even the average person would care because they might not be even able to notice a difference. While I did enjoy both of the boxes there is still plenty to complain about.
