After seeing the 1st ‘episode’ I must admit I enjoyed the soundchecks and after-show highlights. Hahahaha ...but seriously - I get the short format and modern/new-audience-oriented content. What I don't get is why do the teasing with tweets and IC/archive-digs announcements. Those are obviously aimed at the hardcore fans, so why tease THEM with empty promises while working on a wider-audience content. I just don't get the logic. Was it that they actually planned for something longer and more detailed, but gave up at the last second? Or just being mean? A miscommunication inside QPL? Not being sarcastic here, just wondering how these things work.

I think the optimists made a huge leap there in joining up "invisible dots" to form a non-existent picture. there's the other thing to consider here: even if QPL had implied IC's inclusion in this (they didn't) - why would any queen fan of longer than two minutes believe them? they have decades of form for not making good on "stuff they're working on". forewarned is forearmed people. if anything good comes form this - or any other QPL project. then accept it with stunned pleasant surprise, but in reality we should all expect little more than nothing new - ever. no expectatons = no disappointment. i'll say it again: when your blind optimism has deserted you, all you have left is reality.

I see, thanks for pointing it out. I accepted that invisible connection, my bad. Otherwise, I'm not the blind optimist guy, I perfectly get the difference between QPL materials and the hardcore stuff in communities like this, and I do appreciate both. Recently soeone pointed out all the good things we got from QPL almost every year since Freddie passed, and it is a fine list IMO. However, to my original point, what about the tweet about soundchecks and after show highlights, did they do that?

I'm not the blind optimist guy However, to my original point, what about the tweet about soundchecks and after show highlights, did they do that? here's the YT text (as was): 'This trailer is an introduction to a celebration of key moments in Queen’s history From March 19, 2021 and for the next year we will take Queen fans on a unique and remarkable journey - a chance to revisit some of the band’s most iconic moments and discover some aspects of the story you might not know. Presented in chronological order, the series will take you from Queen’s earliest shows at London’s Rainbow and Odeon through vast arenas across the entire world on a journey culminating with the band’s latest record setting achievements with Adam Lambert. Along with spectacular concert footage, sound checks, backstage and rare after-show access we get to explore the stories behind the songs, hits and album tracks, drawn from the extensive footage that exists in the official archive while also uncovering and sharing rare and previously unseen gems.'Glossary of Terms used in above blurb: From March 19, 2021 and for the next year a point that any actual promises (note: there aren't any) could be fulfilled at any point during the entire 50 episodes. a unique and remarkable journey the concept of unique merely means not assembled exactly like this previously. sure, we'll see almost all the old tat we've ever seen before, but the format and compilation of the presentation will be different discover some aspects of the story you might not know a clear indication that this is (really) for the casual/semi-serious fan. sound checks, backstage and rare after-show accessdoesn't say how much or which gigs - it could range between lots of footage (i seriously doubt it) right down to as little as 1x sound check, 1x backstage, 1x aftershow - all 3 secs duration and all from stuff we've already seen.

I stand corrected then. Cheers! not really - and no intention to correct you, either. it's more about interpretation of the syntax used. QPL's legal department are not stupid. their maxim appears to be "hint at the earth, promise f**k-all" - it's worked well for decades, and will continue to do so.

Sure, what I meant is you explaned both points that I questioned, so, much appreciated! It was probably misinterpreted that those soundchecks etc would be in the *first* episode, and we probably expected something longer than 3 min featurettes when the term 'episode' was used. I guess that could be called blind optimism after all

There's a lot of new photos! I'm very happy about that.
The rest of it is pretty shocking. 240p YT rips everywhere, and interview from 2011 that took me 10-15 seconds to find:
photos - 5/5 the rest - 0/5 (anyone here could do a better episode in a few hours, technically speaking)

The first thing I hear when I open the video is a isolated vocal that sounds like it was done with cheap software. If that's an indication of anything, then Queen is really on pace to outdo Led Zeppelin for the most underwhelming 50th anniversary. That, and it's proof that all QPL have for the BBC stuff is the stereo masters - not 24 isolated tracks.

I think that was a modern flange effect on the vocal rather than digital artefacts of isolating it from the backing track. But then it could've been added to cover up damage from splitting the stems. Who knows? I thought the video was OK. Yes, underwhelming for us, but did it's job. Over the series it will make a nice punchy 170ish minute jaunt through their career.

I'm very content with all of the concert footage and behind the scenes of the first episode of 'Queen : The Greatest' even though it wasn't even that, it was just their mimed performance (and also Rock Montreal) footage

Sine very early 2000s anytime there was a big let down to hardcore fans, almost always something was emerged, like leaked demos, uncirculated bootleg etc.

According to the Belgian radio "Classic 21", this week's episode of "Queen The Greatest" will be about "Killer Queen" and "Live at the Rainbow", so unfortunately don't rise your expectations high for this week's episode guys. Here's the source : www.rtbf.be/classic21/article/detail_queen-une-mini-serie-sur-l-heritage-du-groupe?id=10724651. For those who don't understand French, here's an exact translation of what's said about this week's episode : "Next week, the series will focus on the Rainbow concert in 1974 and the song "Killer Queen"."

Let me guess. For this week's episode, the video for Killer Queen will be partly Hammersmith '75 and partly Montreal '81. My expectations cannot be lower. It's very disappointing so far the way Queen celebrates their 50th anniversary.

whats the bets the pieces they release on queens youtube will be put into one bbig compilation and released as a documentary on ITV or somewhere. If the 1st episode's any indication, my bet is that the folks at QPL are gonna use an old VHS copy of Live at the Rainbow for the Rainbow episode.

Liar
I can't help but hear that song when I see what is included in those clips and compare it to the actual content. At QPL they are LIARS.
What is worse: I'm not in the least surprised. It is what I expect from the official camp. Sadly

They could've just uploaded the Days Of Our Lives documentary, but decided to go episodic. Dunno what that means when it comes to monetizing. Do they get more with these episodes or would they have gotten more from uploading the whole thing?
