To each their own, of course. But Rabin era Yes is pretty well a different band (as great as 90125 and Talk are). Fragile and Close To The Edge are generally seen as being amongst the best albums of the '70s. I'd say CTTE is one of the best pieces of art this side of Beethoven - And You And I is majestic, and the furthest thing from twiddling. Relayer and Going For The One are incredible albums too. Turn Of The Century is one of my favourite pieces ever composed by anyone. I also have a soft spot for The Ladder. It's kind of the best of both worlds - the arrangements and compositional prowess of their '70s work and the rhythmic and pop-oriented leanings of their '80s albums. That may ease you into some of the '70s stuff like GFTO.
You very much summed up my view of Yes, CTTE and GFTO being my favourites, also completely in love with Turn of the century and being soft for Ladder - i recently finally got a vinyl copy! I also very much love Tormato. Drama was a great album but the poor guy was never accepted as a Jon replacement and even got bombarded with tomatos and bottles while performing (so I’ve heard). Awaken is also my top favourite song, Anderson himself said he was most proud of that one and wished to every band to have a song that they are satisfied and proud with as he is with Awaken. He did a fantastic live version in 2013 with Todmobile. Dreamtime from Magnification is a fantastic piece of art too. You've inspired me to finish my review of The Ladder that I'd started up a little while back:
Also, YASSSSS - hands down, the greatest version of Awaken, and the rest of Yes isn't even on it. Just magical.

This is making me wanna listen to Yes again. I always thought they're a weird little band lyric-wise, a little too deep for my meager ears, but that didn't stop me appreciating their musicality. Turn Of The Century, and If Only You Knew from The Ladder were standouts to me in particular.

We don't have to wait for their estates.
They could just as easily subcontract...
"We'll concentrate on doing the things we want, but you, Mr beach are charged with establishing a "QUEEN Heritage" revenue stream, that deals in archive releases, of merchandise and music, in support of the primary record label release schedule."

I enjoyed the review. Also agree that These Days is one of Bon Jovi's finest efforts. Sorry for derailing the main topic

Just spent a good chunk of time on Bob's blog, very interesting stuff, great perspective on where music is today also. The link to the story of how music is made today with the Max Martin's of the world is fantastic, and pretty should crushing. And like the fact It's Late made your top 30 Queen songs

And thanks for reading - appreciated.

I've thought long and hard whether I should say this in case of sounding controversial. Obviously I'd love for there to be something rare and exclusive to be released but I'm not actually that bothered that nothing has been done for a while. I'm not angry and I don't feel the need to criticise Queen Productions either.
I still love listening to Queen but I don't have as much time to devote as I did. I think it's the case of getting older and there are more responsibilities, etc. I think as I was obviously later getting into Queen I was kind of used to the pattern of rare things not being released often.
If The Miracle box set is released I'm sure it would be great as I quite liked the News Of The World one. But if it doesn't so be it. I'm kind of used to it. I don't think Queen plays as much as a role in my life as it once did. I've got things in my life a bit more important.

I think the thing a lot of us find a little bit hard to swallow is the fact that we've been with them for 50 years, and yet they can't be arsed to do anything to mark the occasion. We've also had years and years of rumours and speculation, most of which haven't materialised, hence, I think, some frustration with QPL. That and they keep recycling stuff with meagre incentives to purchase them again, yet we still do.

Yeah I understand, I just thought it was important that I bring what I think and from my perspective. I'm guessing there must be fellow fans feeling like me but I'm guessing nearly all of them represent those who have been fans since the start.

You've inspired me to finish my review of The Ladder that I'd started up a little while back:
Thanks for the link Bob, nice review! Yes is in the top 5 of my list of artists I would like to take a better listen to in the near future. From what I've heard so far it's progrock from the top shelf that stays interesting and doesn't get boring.

Absolutely, the layers will reveal themselves for many years to come.
Start with their 1971-73 output (The Yes Album through YesSongs) and proceed from there. It's a helluva journey with a few bumps, but I'd say everything from 1971-77 is solid.
Some of their solo stuff is great too - Olias of Sunhillow by Jon Anderson is as good as the best Yes albums, although a completely other kind of ethereal trip.

Thanks for the tips! I think I'll have a dig through my father in law's old vinyl record collection. I'm pretty sure I've seen a Yes album in there. 'Fragile' if I'm not mistaken.

This is a music teacher reply ... and probably not funny at all but it is in my mind ... here we go ... They are going to digitally remaster and transpose every hit on Queen’s greatest hits to the Dorian mode That will be a ‘re’ release Wow. That was bad. Sorry. I’m ashamed. LOL !!

The latest episode was better, but still pretty dreadful. The laggy scrolling over Google Maps didn't exactly impress me. It seemed to focus more on Brighton Rock and the kid's interview as opposed to the actual show itself.

This comment got me, “Fresh queen content is obviously more important than my school work” A lot of these comments did tickle me. I mean, I'm all for the movie having brought in a new generation of fans. But it is genuinely quite cringeworthy how they will lap up anything QPL chuck out, despite the abysmal level of production put into it. Brings back the whole question as to why Brian teased us with the Imperial College tapes, even saying that Kris Fredriksson was cleaning them up, but now he's saying they've got nowhere with it at all. It's a slap in the face for hardcore fans who quite frankly deserve to hear the tapes. An animated mobile game and a secondary school movie-maker type YouTube series really do not appeal to me, and I'm sure many others.

Queen's "hardcore" fans have been complaining about their choices in direction since 1974, when they thought Sheer Heart Attack was leaning too "pop." It's nothing new.

Yeah, the Google maps and low res Queen logos are mediocre, but this episode interested me. It was nice to hear that gentleman talk about his experience of meeting Queen, and especially the impression Freddie Mercury left on him. I hope there will at least be more episodes like this.

I wonder whether all these clips have been made? If not will they cancel the series if there is poor ratings? I haven't even looked at any of the clips so I don't know how many hits any of them have!

If I'm not mistaken at the beginning they promised 50 episodes because it's the 50th anniv. So they must be ready and can't cancel it. That'll put the end at 25 February... is it supposed to be a significant date? But speaking of ratings/views, it could still be good, there are sooo many casual Queen fans that don't mind as much about the things we somewhat nitpick about. It is to Queen's benefit that they are easy to please, unfortunately, but I'm happy they get to keep their legacy alive. That said I of course wouldn't mind much better effort in some aspects in future clips because I know they can do better than that google map scroll lol. Edit: I looked up the views: Eps 1 Keep Yourself Alive - 377k views Eps 2 Live at the Rainbow - 189k views Eps 3 Killer Queen - 345k views Eps 4 Queen in Finland - 86k views

Both KYA and KQ are in the 300k category, far surpassing the other two episodes that arguably cater toward the more die hard fans.

They haven’t all been made yet - these were discussed on the Queen Pod about three weeks before the IRS’s one had aired, and whilst they knew the content (certainly of the first four), Simon Lupton commented that they hadn’t actually started putting them together yet!
