I watched Rudi Dolezal’s weekly show and he said he was on the phone with Queen on Sunday about a project. He is famous for unfulfilled promises...but I’m still hopeful maybe we’ll get the Knebworth footage he claims to have as part of some kind of 50th anniversary release.

If Queen were to release a box set this big, with that kind of content, for that price, I think a large number of Queen fans would need to be resuscitated, myself included. Hell, it'd stop me from complaining for *years*! Imagine Queen fans *not* complaining! King Crimson box set: Meh, pretty much what QPL has in the pipeline for immediate release!

Or can we take for granted that if he did, this being Rudi Dolezal, the editing would be so poor that even QAnon-devotees could tell it was cobbled together?

QPL: good thanks, you? RD: excellent. QPL: great stuff, how can we help you? RD: just wondered if there was any Queen work in the pipeline - as I've got a major project coming up, involving relaying my garden patio. naturally, if there's anything with you guys, i'd need to reschedule the delivery of slabs due next week. QPL: not a smidgen, sorry. we're only looking at "cash cows" at the moment; live gigs (post covid), bar stools and Crest Emojis. RD: oh, okay, thanks for letting me know. LATER ON SUNDAY:RD: welcome everyone to my podcast. i've been on the phone to Queen earlier today and we discussed my next major project.

QPL Staffer: We've finished all preliminary work on the Queen - The Early Years box set for your 50th anniversary.
Roger (gets up to leave): Great! Let me know how that turns out, and be sure to send me the royalty checks! Brian: Hold on just a minute, Rog. So, what exactly are we going to put in this box set? QPL Staffer: Well, it's like this: CD1 - Queen (Original Album) CD2 - Queen (Brand New Master) CD3 - Demos and Early Versions CD4 - Alternate Takes and Mixes, BBC sessions
CD5 - Queen At The Marquee '72 CD6 - Queen At Golders Green '73
CD7 - Queen At Imperial College '73 /*hey, who knows?*/
CD8 - Supporting Mott The Hoople (live compilation)
DVD 1 - Queen - new retrospective documentary DVD 2 - My Fairy King - an in-depth look at the construction of the song with Roy Thomas Baker, using the original tapes DVD 3 - All available documentation, early photographs and promotional materials, etc. Roger: Bo-ring. How about we record a few of the songs I've written during this lockdown and we tack on a few of those old tracks? Brian: No, no, I don't think that could work. You see, I haven't written anything for years, and nobody will buy an album if you've written most of the tracks. We've been through that before, remember? You get two songs per album, that's it. Roger: *mumbles something that sounds vaguely like "yeah, 'cause Save The Badger Badger was a regular chart topper" Brian (turns to staffer): Anyway, great job on all the work you guys put into this box, I really appreciate it, but this is just not a product we can get behind. For starters, where are all the hits? Where's "We Will Rock You", where's "Save Me", "Who Wants To Live Forever", or even "Bohemian Rhapsody". QPL Staffer: But...it's an early years box. Those are all later songs. Brian: Well, there's always "Fat Bottomed Girls", we played that in '74. Roger: Actually... Brian: Anyway, this just doesn't tie in with the wonderful stuff we're doing with Adam. Surely, there should be something with him in this box, it wouldn't be a real Queen - 50th anniversary without it. QPL Staffer (exasperated): But he hadn't even been born when you recorded the music in this box! Brian: That's so ageist of you, I'm disappointed. I really am. And if all that isn't enough, the box is way too big! Who would ever buy that? It would cost as much as a small car. Roger: What kind of small car? Like a Lotus Seven? Or a Porsche 356? QPL Staffer: It's not that bad! We think we can make a fair profit if we sell it at 120 pounds. Brian and Roger are laughing Brian: No, but seriously, it'd be too expensive. People would much rather have affordable, 250 pound concert tickets to see us rocking it live than some withered old, overpriced box set. Trust me, I'm a doctor. QPL Staffer (desperate): Ok, we can cut back a little, I guess. Brian: How about this: CD1: Queen (1991 remaster) CD2: Queen (2011 remaster) CD3: Queen (new remaster + 2 bonus tracks, one of which isn't even Mad The Swine) CD4: Live Through The Years (Hammersmith '75, Milton Keynes '82, Tokyo '85, Wembley '86) DVD: Re-edit of the Days Of Our Lives-doc, featuring 6.2 seconds of previously unseen footage of the back of Freddie Mercury's head. Roger: I don't know, it seems a little too bare. Brian: You're right. I know! We'll add a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle of the Queen-crest. With Adam Lambert to the right, and a badger to the left. It'll be 499,99, that seems reasonable!

I can’t stand watching Rudi’s backstages anymore . I find them so cringe. I don’t believe a lot of what he says and he repeats content . I’m sure he is a great guy but all he has to go on content wise seems to be work he did with people years ago .
He once mentioned asking Jim Beach if he could release an updated ‘untold story ‘ and was told no as it was to different to the film .
He claims he has waited 25 years to write his book and has seen many write about Freddie during this time who didn’t know him well , I quote ‘even a fing roadie wrote a book ‘
Everyone has their opinion but mine on him is decreasing although I have ordered his book 😂😂😂

He once mentioned asking Jim Beach if he could release an updated ‘untold story ‘ and was told no as it was to different to the film . This has to be bullshit. I'm upset with the direction of the movie, but always believed that Jim Beach and the boys were fully aware of the liberties they had taken. This statement paints them as a bunch of liars trying to make their screwed up movie the word of truth, no questions asked. And besides, what about The Great Pretender? It's been some time since I've watched it, but that certainly deviates from the movie too, right? And that was only a few years before the movie.

I do believe they know the liberties they have taken as I have read or seen interviews from people who knew Freddie who has seen the film and have commented in a very diplomatic way so it’s not hard to read between the lines . I just don’t think they will admit it . At least there are good documentaries out there such as The Great Pretender and The Untold Story .

To add my two cents about what could be released, don't forget that there is supposed to be a 3D version of Bohemian Rhapsody somewhere. Brian posted about it quite a bit several years back. Was it ever shown anywhere?

Despite Rudi’s many shortcomings...I do still hope for Knebworth!🤪
If I had a wishlist for the 50th anniversary release, it would include having Brian and Roger sit down and record a discussion talking through the writing/recording process for each track on their first 2 albums. I love it when they talk through the videos, their insight on everything is so cool, and they are really funny together too. So I would love to have the same thing on those albums. We never get info on those 2 albums really, and since they were at the start it would make sense for a 50th celebration. Quite easy and cheap for them to do as well. A bargain for them and a big win for us.

Can someone explain to me the fuss about an official Knebworth 1986 release? Of course it is special as the last official Queen concert, but we already have three officially released concerts from this tour: Wembley, June 11th and 12th and Budapest. For me no point in adding one to that list. There are much more concerts higher on the priority wish list than that one...

Yes, we already have officially released concerts from the tour, but it is their last and thus an important gig to have on record. But I hear you, aside from that, it's just another Magic concert. I won't be completely upset if it never happens.

Supposedly the Knebworth footage contains a good bit of behind the scenes material, which is what would make it more interesting to me. Also since it’s the last concert and tensions seemed a bit high, maybe we could see the nature of that. But, that is probably exactly why we’ll never see it!

Thanks for whetting my appetite. haha I'd be far more interested in the behind the scenes footage than the actual gig itself. The stuff we got with Hungarian Rhapsody was beyond amazing. I want more stuff like that.

Is that really what they're doing though? Brian, Roger and Adam have been working together for longer than we seem to realise now, and they have a live album out - something that took a long while to happen. Promoting it is perfectly normal... and compared to loads of artists, I really don't think they've done a lot of promo. Are they shoving Q+AL down our throats or simply doing what any other act would do?

The live album was going to happen eventually, and frankly, I appreciate its existence. On the other hand, I understand how some may feel frustrated, especially considering The Miracle's delay. But I'm not going to outright blame Q+AL.

Although I am due to see them next year (Covid permitting ) I’m not particularly interested in this . For me I prefer Freddie’s vocals so I stick with that

I wasn't necessarily referring to Q+AL, as that has at least been a more permanent collaboration, but the many of odd pairings that came before that. We certainly don't want another GH3, which is what a 'Duets' album would effectively be.

I was also due to see them this year (which probably wouldn't have happened anyway, due to Brian's health issues). I'm cautiously optimistic for next year, but things will need to be back to pretty near normal for it to go ahead.

I hope to goodness nothing happens to them any time soon, but Brian's had a scare, and it does show that you can't predict the future.
