Bargain at £59.99 - surely with QPL it'll come with a deflated balloon with the price tag of £99.99 Don't forget the limited gold edition of Neal Preston's book which costs a whopping 1500 bucks! I mean, as ridiculous at that pricing is, at least that book isn't limited to *only* that version and anyone can buy the standard version instead

Think the only saviour for the 50th Anniversary will be the next CMI Expanded Edition release.

With stuff like this, it's better to go in with really low expectations. So then if we do get let down you won't be disappointed and if we do get something new, it'll be a nice surprise.

The Queen Official YouTube channel just put out a trailer for this new project. The description from the video is thus:
'This trailer is an introduction to a celebration of key moments in Queen’s history From March 19, 2021 and for the next year we will take Queen fans on a unique and remarkable journey - a chance to revisit some of the band’s most iconic moments and discover some aspects of the story you might not know. Presented in chronological order, the series will take you from Queen’s earliest shows at London’s Rainbow and Odeon through vast arenas across the entire world on a journey culminating with the band’s latest record setting achievements with Adam Lambert. Along with spectacular concert footage, sound checks, backstage and rare after-show access we get to explore the stories behind the songs, hits and album tracks, drawn from the extensive footage that exists in the official archive while also uncovering and sharing rare and previously unseen gems.'
Thoughts on what we're getting here? From the footage, it seems to be all stuff we've seen before. Not holding out much hope, with the current state of QPL, but it's an interesting thing, and will introduce more fans to the legacy of the band, which is always nice.
Link here:
As this is a journey from 1971 to the present, maybe this is where we will get a snippet from the Imperial Concert gig. Maybe they won’t release a full concert, but we may get a track or two!

As this is a journey from 1971 to the present, maybe this is where we will get a snippet from the Imperial Concert gig. Maybe they won’t release a full concert, but we may get a track or two! not a fekkin' bit of it, believe me. we don't need a proof-reader or forensic analysis to see their intent. It's quite clear from their (QPL) statement that there'll be NOTHING, NADA, ZILCH. ZERO, ZIP from 1971...or in fact ANY YEAR prior to 1974: They NEVER misled us, or gave us false hope for anything from 1971...that's down to the bizarre delusion of some fans' Micawber-Syndrome: "Something will turn up." - it usually doesn't...and likely never will. history should've taught us all that much, surely to goodness?. Read it again...and reel in stunned (albeit obvious) conclusion - from the blunt-force-trauma of another QPL disappointment smacking us full in the face: It really was all very much there to see in the released statement: "Presented in chronological order, the series will take you from Queen’s earliest shows at London’s Rainbow and Odeon through vast arenas across the entire world on a journey culminating with the band’s latest record setting achievements with Adam Lambert."c'mon people, it really shouldn't take the combined cognitive deduction prowess of Sherlock Holmes and Columbo to figure this one out. time for the optimists to stop imbibing the QPL Kool Aid...it rots the brain

They were using the Rainbow show as an example as it’s a show that everyone knows. This is a series of clips showing Queen’s 50 year journey, so it has to start in 1971, maybe even 1970. And also, Brian has said they are planning to do something with a tape of the Imperial College show.

And also, Brian has said they are planning to do something with a tape of the Imperial College show. there's always the possibility you are right, of course. but - QPL's own form would strongly suggest otherwise. also, there have been plenty of official documentaries and videos going all the way back to Magic Years (decades ago). All give some brief reference to the early days, and usually contain a few bars (nothing more) of music from 68-71...it's all stuff we've seen countless times, and will likely get used for this project also, why? it's easy filler or links between the mainstream content that will fill the project. Youtube is for the mass-market, the casual fan. the casual fan is not going to be interested in stuff that doesn't contain the hits - or dwells too long on anything they're unfamiliar with. So, to the casual fan, seeing a version of Radio Ga Ga that isn't the pop promo, or from Live Aid or Wembley 86 would be interesting. However, seeing some grainy photos from 1970 (and frozentodeath) accompanied by 30secs of fuzzy audio of some early version of some Queen song they've never heard, really won't appeal. We need to try and separate what Brian actually said about the newly-discovered Imperial College audio tape - he confirmed nothing about if/how/when it may/may not see the light of day, did he? - and what the Queen 50 Trailer actually confirms: 1] the whole thing may well (as you say) start in 1971, but let's be brutally honest here: As others have suggested, you may get snippets of the IC audio with some pre-1973 photo montage. it'll be unlikely that ALL of it is released. in your heart you know that, right? 3] i don't believe their use of the Rainbow as an example was because it's a show everyone knows...i think there's a key word in the sentence they used: from Queen’s earliest shows at London’s Rainbow and Odeon. by using the word earliest they're defining their starting point for the project. 4] reality should bite (hard) here: had anything from 1971 IC Gig been planned for this project how difficult would the have been to add one sentence to the trailer: "Also, For the first time ever, ultra rare archive audio from Queen live in 1971." It's not been mentioned in the trailer because - as things stand, there are no current plans to add it. maybe, after they've cleaned it up sufficiently (if they can), they may slip parts of the IC gig into one of the 50 weekly chapters? i still strongly doubt it. but, time will tell. i really hope i'm wrong about this, but it's difficult to see beyond QPL's history of NOT releasing stuff they previously alluded to - let alone stuff they haven't - like the IC Gig.

"This is for all our fans. We wanted you to finally share in the magic of our first 'real' gig". Following is a collage of pictures that looks suspiciously like the back sleeve to Queen I set to 45 seconds of (previously unheard!) crowd noise from the fifteen people at the Imperial College concert. If you listen closely, you can hear John cough in the background at 0:21.

Hello guys, I was surprised there's no thread for this yet! I consider it quite possible that they will release new stuff, new tapes and film. I also want to say my confidence in QPL giving Queen a good 50th birthday is growing. I hope the episodes are at least 40 minutes long, but we'll see next friday. What do you think about it? We can also discuss the episodes here, because I believe some of you here should be able to distinghuish which footage is new. Cheers Cornele

2021: 50th anniversary celebration! - No Imperial College gig ("We were just teasing, LOL!") - No pre-QueenI stuff of any kind ("Haha, seriously?") - No Miracle boxset ("It's already done but we just don't care") - No Innuendo 30th anniversary release ("All that Back to the Tapes stuff? We spilled some coffee over it") - No ANATO CMI Expanded Collection ( cmi signed up a contract with QPL, it'll be "slightly" delayed) HOWEVER! We're getting a weekly rehash of documentary footage and greatest hits for a full year! Hell yes!!! Happy anniversary!!!

What beggars belief is that they've put out 'special' releases for several previous five yearly milestones, yet when it comes to this, the 50th, the Golden Anniversary, it seems they simply can't be arsed. It's a kind of tragic.

Queen have just tweeted that this week, the first video will highlight concerts, soundchecks and rare after-show access, although nowhere does it say anything about 'never-before-seen footage'. How predictable!

I’m expecting the Magic Years chopped up into 50 three-and-a-half minute “episodes”. Anything new or different would be wonderful, but I’m trying not to hope for more. I’d rather be delighted than disappointed.

We are definitely getting a lot of non-music related products though..........tons of new t-shirts, more band statues, taylor cloths, etc.......feels like Kiss all over again. Everything but archived music stuff, you know, the stuff we have been waiting for years. Unfortunately that's where the money is at, they are trying to make as much as they can from the current demand. Once that demand is over than they will start taking advantage of the die hard fans.

I’m expecting the Magic Years chopped up into 50 three-and-a-half minute “episodes”. recoloured sepia...and played backwards. ♦ Freddie's hair gradually gets longer, and he leaves Jim to marry Mary♦ John is replaced by Doug Bogie, who's booted out for Barry Mitchell before the band finally settle on Mike Grosse. ♦ Freddie and Brian discover Roger playing in an unknown band called The Cross and sign him. after an initial run of huge hits ( Innuendo, These Are The Days, Magic, One Vision, GaGa, etc, his song-writing dries up until finally, Freddie & Brian call time as a direct response to Loser In The End. ♦ Brian starts off with Anita, but he leaves her for Chrissie...and all the deaths associated with the Brian Curse (no matter how tenuous) all do a Lazarus - miraculously returning to life. Brian eventually retires from the music business and builds up a successful craft business - making Fireplaces out of old Guitars.

hahahaha. FFS. i hope the optimists haven't slunk into a deep dark morass of anger-laced disappointed reality...like the rest of us (have for decades). although i called this - i deeply wish i hadn't been right
