Don't forget there's also a deluxe version of Freddie's graphic-novel which include a colored vinyl of Never Boring, so 3 solo works for the 50th anniversary. What a team spirit!

Very sad. They’ve definitely been influenced by Kenny Powers..because it’s all about the dollar, dollar bills y’all.

Well, I guess that would be his BTTL reissue. Quite looking forward to that, so hopefully it won't be another disappointment. Absolutely, I hope it's about BTTL reissue. I'm really looking forward to that and crossing fingers that there's a couple of extras on there we haven't had previously on B-sides etc. Also interested to see (hear) what Brian has been meaning by re-visiting the tracks - you think this means EQ? my guess is probably just a few tweaks to make it sound consistent throughout. I don't think it's a bad sounding album, but some of the tracks sounded a little flat compared to others.

Marriott's voice so soulful (only other white male singer with the same soul tones being Steve Winwood)

Bro, I got their Greatest Hits a month or 2 ago just for them to make a Collector's Edition, and it's not even on Vinyl!! Oh, but it's in different colored cassettes. Yeah, no thanks QPL, I'll stick with the one I already have

Just the moment I saw the cover picture on their Instagram, my head's already filling in the details. That's how unsurprised I am now, sadly.

Surely even the casual fans must be scratching their heads at this one. They've all already got copies of Greatest Hits, why would they buy another one?

Dammit, why did my cassette deck break down just a couple of months ago?
Seriously though, in general I don't get the appeal of new releases (or in this case, yet another reissue) on cassette. I've seen other bands doing this as well lately.
At least with vinyl vs. CD there's an argument to be made with regards to sound quality. Meanwhile cassettes will always sound worse than proper album formats (as cassettes were originally meant to record speech only, after all). It's purely a cynical cash grab aimed at collectors or "retro" enthusiastics.

I heard Brian's cover first, and remember being disappointed hearing the Small Faces' original so many years later. (I have since come to appreciate it, and all of the Small Faces' output.)

I would've bought it if they had put it out as a 4 x 12" 45RPM set. Each disc presented in a portrait sleeve of a band member. Two/three tracks per side. Slipcase with the original group photo on it. Would look awesome.

Hey QPL where's the feckin' complete remastered GVH, all the videos in 5.1 surround sound? Jesus wept!
They purport to being disciples of The Beatles but QPL's output is sub-par in comparison when you look at the Beatles 1+ DVD video collection.

I did some research and here are all of the major releases of this album, in it's UK track listing, that have been released over the years: 1) Original release on vinyl and cassette from 1981 2) First CD release in 1986 3) 1994 remaster (also included in the Gold Collection set with GH II) 4) A 2001 remaster as part of The Platinum Collection 5) 2004 US "We Will Rock You" release (this is the edition that included a couple of "On Fire" preview tracks and the single mix of "I'm In Love With My Car) 6) 2011 remaster (also included in the 2011 "Platinum Collection" re-release 7) 2013 Japanese SACD release 8) 2016 2 LP reissue 9) 2018 US/Canadian 2 LP release on double red vinyl 10) 2019 UK 2 LP release on double red vinyl 11) 2018/2019 2 LP re-releases as part of the Queen Collections in Italy, the UK and Japan 12) 2020 2 LP (1 red & 1 white) release in the US at Walmart 13) 2020 2 ruby red LP rerelease at Target in the US. I mean, it has to be obvious that there are not near enough copies of this album out there in the world! The only thing that surprises me is that they didn't announce a vinyl re-release on double picture disc vinyl with one of the four band members on each side in a limited edition run of 1,981 copies.

I'm not sure they are cynical because I actually don't get the business rationale... Wouldn't QPL earn more money if they released more stuff this year... including "deluxe" boxsets ?

I don't care how many times GH1 is released, although I'm not sure it's the album with the highest potential market, given every home already has 2 copies each.....
I think the press release does stretch the definition of the term "new format" though.

I wish they made a compilation of all of the songs they released as singles that FLOPPED, or just aren't that talked about.
Have it be called 'Queen - Worst "Hits"'

The cynics I was referring to are the fans. Some of them predicted there would no releases to celebrate the 50th anniversary. Others predicted an unrelated re-re-re-re-re-re-release of Greatest Hits. None of them were cynical enough to predict the even worse third option: GH to celebrate the 50th anniversary. Kind of strange and sad that the bottom has now been well and truly scraped and nothing worthwhile will ever come from QPL again.....

I guess I'll just have to hold off buying anything until next year when they put out a 40th Anniversary Box Set of Hot Space with a bonus disc of all the discussions/fights that took place in the studio during it's recording.

Nothing new about the content, but it was re-promoted at that point. Sometime around GH3 - Queen GH interactive CD Rom

The contradiction between their two common stances is incredible:
“We WON’T release individual proper deluxe versions of individual albums because the wider public won’t be interested and we don’t want to release stuff solely for hardcore fans”.....
“We WILL release limited edition, redundant format cassettes only via our website aimed purely at collectors”
Not forgetting of course of course Brian’s famous oft-repeated line of ‘we really don’t want to be known just as a ‘greatest hits’ band and we want people to know the original albums and deeper cuts’.

Did I miss the bit in the press release where it said some/all of the proceeds of this release go to the MPT?

You and I not giving them.money doesn't register, I'm afraid.

The other irony is that they won't release special editions of albums they don't think the wider public would be interested in, yet Brian is tarting up one of his own solo albums for release. Surely that would be of even less interest to the 'Greatest Hits' brigade?

Surely that would be of even less interest to the 'Greatest Hits' brigade? Queen is not retired, but Brian May as a solo artist is essentially "on hiatus". Also Brian "tarting up one of his own solo albums for release" might not be viewed as "flooding the Queen market" by the record companies.
